I’m a kiwi living in aus the only reason we moved was because I the housing is insanely expensive. Just saying if you plan to live there have a good amount of money
Movies also filmed in NZ were The piano, Lord of the rings, hobbit, chronicles of narnia wolverine(Hugh Jackman) the last samurai(Tom Cruise) the world's fastest Indian (about Burt Monro. Actor Anthony Hopkins), Mission Impossible(Tom Cruise), Avatar, King Kong and many, many more...
The most interesting thing I found out is that Tom Cruise has done the Hidden Valley tour in Waitomo 3 times. It's a 300 foot abseil in and a 5 or 7 hour walk /crawl out... Yes. I come from there...
Burt Munro from Invercargill who still retains the speed record for an Indian motorcycle. Bloody Legend! NZ has no state religion or established church so freedom of religion. LOTR & The Hobbit all were filmed in New Zealand. Population of NZ is about 5 million. New Zealand is just awesome...you guys should definitely visit there
Hello! I’m a New Zealander and I live in Tauranga, it wasn’t on the list but it is warm and perfect for swimming. New Zealand is also the host of the movie Avatar, which is where it was filmed.
I'm from Tauranga but live in Brisbane, Australia, and clicked on this expecting to see Tauranga (or the Mount) and...... seriously? Didn't make the list but Taranaki and Christchurch did?!!? Wtf!
the Haka: The haka is a type of ceremonial Māori dance or challenge. Haka are usually performed in a group and typically represent a display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Actions include foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant. The words of a haka often poetically describe ancestors and events in the tribe's history.
I grew up in Manchester, UK but moved to Hawkes Bay, NZ, which I'm very surprised isn't mentioned as it has a great climate, vineyards, beaches and beautiful art-deco architechture. Also surprised Tauranga didn't get a mention. I've travelled all over both islands and it is a ridiculously beautiful place with huge geographical variation for its size - rolling fertile hills, rugged snow capped mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, fjords, sub-tropical forest, gorgeous beaches (black, golden and white sand). One thing I noticed is how much clearer the light is which results in an almost hyper real quality. Water temperature varies - north of the north island can get up to 24 in summer. The further south you go the colder it gets.
Yes I live in Tauranga/ Papamoa beach and was shocked it didn’t get mentioned. It’s the fastest growing city in nz. The growth is huge. Very stable climate too. Loads of people move here all the time. Thanks for mentioning my beautiful city. ❤❤
We are Aussies who travel to New Zealand for their air shows & to take in their stunning scenery. The South Island has scenery where you would swear you were in Britain, Norway or Jurassic Park. The southern part of the South Island is more Scottish than Scotland.
I am a kiwi and I enjoy living here sometimes stuff get really expensive but this country is free it does nto matter about ur race it includes everyone 😍
I lived in Wellington for a number of years. It's a fantastic city. It's big enough to have all the good things that come with a large city: sporting and cultural facilities, great cafes and restaurants etc. But it's small enough not to have the bad things like crime and endless traffic problems.
We (Aotearoa-“Land of the long white cloud” New Zealand) were settled by England back in the 19th century and most of our city names like Dunedin, Christchurch and Nelson amongst others stem from them.
Kia ora from New Zealand. It is the most beautiful place to live. We are very lucky to be in a country so far away from troublesome problems. Jane in New Zealand
Auckland is the capital with about 1.2 million, Hamilton pop is 300000. We don't get snow in the north island except around the central plateau mountains. Summer temperatures reach 30C, swimming and boating are favourite activities
I was born in New Zealand in Christchurch, and now live in Queenstown New Zealand, and Queenstown is absolutely amazing, a small tourist alpine village with locals living here and running their businesses. In Summer swim in the lake, you name it, we do it! Restaraunts galore, Finest Hotels, nature walks, trail bike riding, go for a cruise on a boat, if you can dream it you can do it. Winter, go skiing Trips on the lake,on The Earnslaw. water taxi, jet boat, Bungi, houses 500,000 up to the ski in the millions to purchase. Rentals, all different budgets. I'm just a local, I'm not advertising for anyone, just giving you a helping hand with some information, New Zealand is beautiful, and magnificent. Mount Cook is beautiful and all the other southern lakes, Wanaka is lovely but I love QUEENSTOWN. YES YOU CAN SHOP AS WELL. There are many religions in New Zealand... Free to choose, if you wish to choose. Its one of the words Free Countries and also tops charts as being one of the least corrupted
Population around 5million, Lord of the rings and Hobbit both filmed in NZ, Temps in winter depending which city ur in can drop to -2degrees and go up to 30 in summer
Wellington practically runs The film industry in New Zealand. We have a production house called Weta Workshop that basically does SFX for most marvel movies, Hobbit, LOTR, Avatar, Fantastic Beasts Series. And so soo many more Water is cold in winter, warm in summer. We Basically have so many hidden beautiful spots... This one doesn't even Mention Milford Sounds, Mt Cook, Stewart Island, Waiheke Island or Great Barrier island. The Summer is super long these days. There's also Tauranga which has beautiful hot weather, great surf excellent scenery. Also alot of people like James Cameron have houses here
Hobbit was made in nz but filmed mostly infront of a green scene. Lord of the rings was. I used to love about 20 minites from helms deep....well the mountains from the scene where helms deep is set.
Its absolutely warm enough to swim anywhere in nz in summer. I live in kaikoura. The snowy mountain slopes descend right into the sea. Its snowy in winter but hot in summer. Just...if you do swim. Keep one eye out for those orcas whales. They come within a meter of the beach. Seen it.
NZ has mountains with snow n oceans nearby and its perfectly good to swim. All is good..LOTR!,hobbit avatar, Last samurai, wolverine etc etc all filmed here
Hi guys, thanks for the react chat 😊 being a Kiwi, I can only recommend you come and visit us Down Under. The video however didn't cover most of the better places. Didn't even mention Bay of Islands, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty, or any other of the beautiful places we have here. Felt like the pictures you saw were a bit mixed up as well, sorry but you'd be better to watch something made by Kiwis to better explain things in NZ 👍🏻☺️
I'm from Christchurch and I prefer living here compared to anywhere else because theres actually so much to do here and places like Wellington and Auckland aren't good for driving around because its so busy all the time
Yes you can swim at nearly every single beach and lake. Just cause you see the mountains in the distance doesn’t mean much. The picture they showed in this video is Mission Bay, one of the most popular/known beaches. Literally no matter where you are in NZ (or at least Auckland, there’s a beach you can easily drive too) Auckland is one of the most populated places in NZ as well as the most expensive. Housing crisis is full on and even for a shitty house it’ll be close to millions+ dollars. Which is why majority of us Aucklanders rent. Auckland also has most of our Top Universities and is the most tourist attraction like place.
Americans come here for a holiday and think it's expensive. But if you were to live here it's cheaper as we don't have to pay for things you do in the states such as health care
It is not cheap to live in NZ. Houses are extremely expensive, building materials are expensive, most things are expensive in relation to prices overseas and in relation to income.
Nice to see my city on the list (Christchurch). No the name has no religious connotations to us locals. The narrator is pronouncing it strangely in that she is emphasisng 'christ' and 'church' like its two words (making it sound religious). No it's just simply Christchurch. There is a small town in the UK called Christchurch that we were most likely named after. I wouldn't say Kiwis are any more religious than anyone else. It's nice that you haven't head of Christchurch because to be honest in the last 10 years we became world famous for just some horrible events happening to us that were beyond our control. They don't need to be discussed here. As a result us Cantabrians (from the Cantberbury region) are a pretty resilient bunch.
Just found your video. I'm from Timaru, which is in the South Island. We are roughly 2 hours south from Christchurch. You guys so need to come visit one day !! 😊😊
Selwyn is ok but, particularly inland, not somewhere most people would choose as a top 10 place to live. Most people probably wouldn't choose Dunedin either, it definitely has nice aspects, but the weather isn't great, partly as it's so far south. I live somewhat further North, but daylight hours already get pretty short in winter(very long in summer though) Similarly several places on the list are entire regions, so they don't mean much. Napier, Tauranga/Mt Maunganui should probably have been in the list. Snow on the mountains doesn't always reflect the temperature nearer sea level(most people live at very low altitudes), particularly in Spring - snow can still be on the mountains while it's very warm where people live. It's my favourite time of year view-wise. It all depends on what people like though. If people love the outdoors, and don't mind rain, the West Coast of the South Island is beautiful. NZ is one of the least religious countries. Aside from the awful terrorist attack by an Australian citizen on a mosque, and one moronic attention-seeking self-proclaimed 'bishop'(albeit he's more of a pest, than anything serious) there's very few problems around religion. Houses have become painfully expensive, average and median is approx nz$1,000,000(currently us$650,000), while wages are relatively low. I think we have the lowest house affordability in the OECD. Auckland does push this up considerable, but most places are expensive.
I've lived all over NZ, how did you not have Tauranga ,Bay of Plenty at the top of the list, Papamoa is my home, a 15km beach running east from Tauranga
as you head north it gets warmer mild to tropical temperatures during summer mild during winter in the north winter barely gets below 0 c overnight and mid teens during the day in summer we get upwards of 30 ocassionally but average mid to high twenties in celsius not fahrenheit
Peter Jackson is a kiwi . He done both lotr , hobbit and kong I think. Tom cruise done a samurai movie here . The worlds fastest Indian was about Burt Munro from the bottom of the South Island.
She meant Nelson consistently records the highest sunshine hours annually than the rest of the country. house prices are proportionally higher, the larger the city or sometimes factors like what Queenstown have, also drives up prices.
Christchurch, New Zealand (2nd largest city in NZ) is known for its English heritage. (There is also a town in England also named Christchurch). Population about 380,000. It's spring at the moment and the temp averages 8 to 17 degrees C. Cheaper housing in Christchurch than Auckland (biggest city in NZ, population 1.6m). ChCh median $550,000+. Auck $900,000+. Selwyn, rural ChCh house prices est $600,000 to $900,000. Early Nz was Christian based but now est at 33 percent so NZ moving towards more of a secular nation.
The crazy thing is nothing is 'touched up' and it's actually even more beautiful than anything you'd see in a book and online. North Island is pretty, south island even blows us Kiwis away with the surreal beauty of it!
Watching this again with daughter. NZ is a secular nation (no state religion) - Our 2018 Census results had almost half the population (48.2 percent) had no religion, compared with 41.9 percent in 2013, 34.6 percent in 2006, and 29.6 in 2001. Within a decade or so, we should be touching the 60% mark. As for population (as of June '21): Waikato - 506,000 Nelson - 54,700 Selwyn - 73,600 Queenstown - 15,500 Christchurch - 392,000 Rotorua - 58,400 Auckland - 1.72 million Dunedin - 133,000 Taranaki - 126,400 Wellington - 217,000
i live 45 minutes from queenstown, im live in cromwell.. that picture is not touched up.. i lived in dunedin for 16 years b4 moving to cromwell , in the summer we get roughly high 30s we hit 41 degrees in the past summer
As a Kiwi I can say that it's not always the 'sunniest'. It can freeze your nuts off from Wellington southwards in winter. Auckland rains a lot. But in summer it's very pleasant.
the image of the town at 5.38 when talking about Nelson is actually nowhere near Nelson, it's not even on the same island. That is Devonport, a suburb on Aucklands North Shore (North Island) whereas Nelson is a town\city located at the top of the South Island
New Zealand is mostly non-religious however Christchurch will have been named after a british town or city of the same name when settlers were first arriving from england.
Another NZ movie which is now a tv series on FX in the states, what we do in the shadows. It's a vampire mockamentary movie. Taika Waititi is the NZ director.
The Zorb was invented in Rotorua, also,if you want to see some real intense Hakas, have a look at the War funeral Hakas,or the Hakas when a respected Teacher dies.
Don’t know how I came across this but so funny hearing your comments / questions about NZ… I’m born and raised kiwi living in Auckland…, hope u get here once our borders open… u need minimum 2 months!!
That’s so funny. “Is NZ religious”? Because of Christchurch name. Christchurch is in the province of Canterbury all being from England place names as it was settled by the English.
The tempeture depends on which island... North Island has more rolling hills and a sub tropical climate roughly 23 degrees Celsius... the south island is more mountains and around 19 degrees Celsius.. both tempetures fluctuate between seasons
New Zealand was the only country in the world to let Tom Cruise fly the helicopter in the Mission Impossible movie and he also filmed The Last Samurai here
New Zealand for cost of living is probably on par with most places in the US, but it's when you break down that things like fuel and initially purchasing a vehicle are going to more expensive, yet other things like energy are cheaper. Also there are no real megacities like Los Angeles or even Austin TX... everything is like a country town, most people are friendly and helpful. Also to point out that when many thought there were film edits or CGI insertions in making Lord of the Rings, no New Zealand does simply roll from lush green fields over a hill to see a vast river flat and snow covered mountains.... the CGI may have been used to obscure the man made objects like wind farms and roads.
Christchurch is considered by most kiwis as just a name of a place. We don’t see or view it as a Mecca or religious centre…just a city called Christchurch..though it does have a lot religious schools.
I grew up in Christchurch. It's not extra religious, just that it was settled by the English. Hard to say what the cost of living there has been like since the earthquakes (the whole country lies on the San Andreous line) but most of the repairs have been done now and life has gotten back to normal. I was there in March last year (living in Australia) and the city has been re-imagined and doing well!
I think you mean the Alpine fault is the boundary of the Pacific and Australian Plates where the San Andreous fault are Pacific Plate and the North American Plate
Religion is very mixed in New Zealand . There’s Buddhist temples, mosques and all kinds on churches to name a few. Although I don’t actually know a lot of people that go to church regularly.
Yes, Burt Munro who set the land speed record is from New Zealand! The movie is called The Worlds Fastest Indian. Great film! Do some more NZ videos! :D
I'm an Aussie and I have to say New Zealand is just a stunningly beautiful country. Hope to live there some day.

Lord of the rings was filmed in New Zealand. And the hobbit was filmed in Martinborough New Zealand. You can do a tour of the hobbit town.
So was some of The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise, along with a number of other movies.

NZ is a secular nation (no state religion) -
Our 2018 Census results had almost half the population (48.2 percent) had no religion, compared with 41.9 percent in 2013, 34.6 percent in 2006, and 29.6 in 2001.
Within a decade or so, we should be touching the 60% mark.
As for population (as of June '21):
Waikato - 506,000
Nelson - 54,700
Selwyn - 73,600
Queenstown - 15,500
Christchurch - 392,000
Rotorua - 58,400
Auckland - 1.72 million
Dunedin - 133,000
Taranaki - 126,400
Wellington - 217,000
This summer the average temp where i live in NZ has been sitting around 30 - 31 Celsius.
i live 45 minutes from queenstown, im live in cromwell.. that picture is not touched up.. i lived in dunedin for 16 years b4 moving to cromwell , in the summer we get roughly high 30s we hit 41
degrees in the past summer
Burt Munro from Invercargill.. the fastest Indian my grandad is from there the most southern town in the world
As a Kiwi I can say that it's not always the 'sunniest'.
As a New Zealander I also say come visit us!
Another NZ movie which is now a tv series on FX in the states, what we do in the shadows. It's a vampire mockamentary movie. Taika Waititi is the NZ director.
You're right on it brother...
BURT MUNROE...
Yes lord of the rings and also the hobbit movies.. and yes Weta Studio’s does the MCU CGI too.. In Wellington
The Zorb was invented in Rotorua, also,if you want to see some real intense Hakas, have a look at the War funeral Hakas,or the Hakas when a respected Teacher dies.
Born and bred in Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand.
East Coast - golden beaches, West Coast black iron stone stands.
Hi from New Zealand I'm surprised the video didn't show up the top of the North Island, exceptional places up North. Yes our country is beautiful 😍
Our last census 48.7% non religious
Yeah I grew up in Hamilton it's a great spot
The tempeture depends on which island... North Island has more rolling hills and a sub tropical climate roughly 23 degrees Celsius... the south island is more mountains and around 19 degrees Celsius.. both tempetures fluctuate between seasons
The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise was filmed in NZ
New Zealand was the only country in the world to let Tom Cruise fly the helicopter in the Mission Impossible movie and he also filmed The Last Samurai here
yes its warm enough to swimm....im from chch nz
The further North you go,the warmer the water, apparently.
It is named after its namesake in England
The movie Phezz was referring to is called The World's Fastest Indian, true story and a great movie
Yes that is it!
Yes, Burt Munro who set the land speed record is from New Zealand! The movie is called The Worlds Fastest Indian. Great film!
Do some more NZ videos! :D
Yep, the world's fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins was about a Kiwi.
Christchurch is named after Christ Church, Oxford in England by the Canterbury Association after they settled the Canterbury Plains.
Christchurch is named after a Scottish town , as is Dunedin.
I'm an American living in New Zealand.
Both lotr and the Hobbit were filmed in NZ
