    Hey everyone! I really hope you enjoyed this video is took me a bunch of time to make because of a few things, for those who followed me on Twitter know I recently got diagnosed with Bipolar Syndrome, so I've just been trying to get my head around that, adjusting to things and what not but with that comes a new direction with how I create my content, I had to take a long hard look at what I was putting out and the process I went under when making it, this video was SO much fun to make and write, normally when I'm making videos towards the end I can't wait for that process to be over but this time it just wasn't the case! So doing things like this is totally new for me and I'm letting my goofball side out which is normally only there for my Twitch streams, but this just felt right, the super serious attitude I had towards my UA-cam channel just wasn't doing me any favours so I'm going to ride this train for a bit.
    If you liked or disliked the video the best way to contact me is to just tweet at me! So follow me on Twitter here: twitter.com/Paragon_JJ
    Peace out everyone (:

      Good for you for finding a video format you enjoy making. I'm really happy for you. I was already hyped for this game, and you redouble that. I will still always love and relay the souls games, and would love another one, but from software needs a break from the souls series, so I can respect that this game is different and still enjoy the shit out if it.

      "Im a beautiful fairy princess" 😂 had my dying dude. Lmao
      I like the online aspect of the souls/Bourne series. My friends an i didn't much enjoy doing PvP, but rather enjoyed going through an killing bosses together. Any other co op games, are either mmo, or fps games. An not everyone enjoys that.
      The games in general, every single one, is thoroughly enjoyable. Aside from the second red headed step child no one seems to like.. Ahem we all know what I'm talking about.
      I've already pre ordered the collectors edition for sekiro, an is one of my most anticipated games so far.

    Bloodborne gives me the all the confidence in the world in From's A team but I wont lie that I am a bit disappointed that it seems that we will never get more BB or DeS.
    BB doesn't even need a sequel l, just more content. More areas, weapons, story & lore would go a long way... with a better realized and fleshed out chalice dungeons would be fantastic. I know that years later DLC isn't a thing but shit, From could easily do it and make a good amount of money.
    Same with DeS, they could simply remaster and finish Demon Soul's, add in a little extra content here and there, and integrate the improvements they made through the years. That would crush it.
    I know these are probably done, but I can hold on to the hope along with a Remastered Morrowind :(

    I actually didn't know that Sekiro wouldn't have other weapons, but when you said it here I was oddly okay with it. It definitely looks like a game that requires a little more from players, and it's something that a lot of the Souls games don't ask for: creativity. Most soulslikes tend to focus so much on getting the "soulsy" feeling by ticking all the boxes. Third-person combat, lock-on camera, left and right hand weapons, collecting a resource, losing a resource upon death with a chance to reclaim it, and checkpoints that respawn enemies upon use. But the reality is that the player has extremely little interaction with the game world aside from killing and looting.
    Level design, fluid combat, and challenging enemies cover this up, but when was the last time you did anything in a Souls game's environment besides run through it, kill things in it, or maybe unlock a door or shortcut? Sekiro is demonstrably taking From's level design in a whole new direction by letting players traverse them from dozens of angles with multiple potential winning strategies. Focusing on the environments and risk/reward of attacking challenging enemies in Sekiro lets combat revolve around a singular weapon because then it can do pretty much anything they think it needs to do.
    I think this tighter focus on one weapon keeps one of the primary flaws of Dark Souls from surfacing: finding useless or unneeded equipment. Looting a bitty dagger with a magic enchantment just isn't very thrilling for someone running an Ultra Greatsword build, is it? Instead of implementing new movesets for dozens of different weapons many players will never use, From can use Sekiro to refine a single weapon's moveset to a mirror shine while also making item pickups more meaningful.

  • @avivokon8573
    @avivokon8573 6 років тому +50

    honestly I'm somewhat scared that no matter how great Sekiro may be , it's not going to inspire anything like the Soulsbourne games have
    I mean , if you take out stats , leveling and gear , you take out most of the replayability of the game , which is a huge part of what created the community about the game
    remove PvP or Coop as well , give us a story to follow (as there aren't items to give item descriptions for) , and you are only left with challenge runs , and even these are limited to no healing or similar , far fewer options than any of the Soulsbourne games
    this looks to be going the God of War route , which while a great game was rather quickly forgotten , and that's exactly the opposite route of the Soulsbourne games
    and that's without dealing with Activision and what they might try to do with the game.......

    • @asiamatron
      @asiamatron 6 років тому +8

      I think it's best to treat Sekiro as its own thing not related to Souls (even though it has some similarities). Otherwise, you may end up disappointed.
      As Paragon said FROM are branching out somewhat.

    • @avivokon8573
      @avivokon8573 6 років тому +13

      I fully respect them for branching out . what I fear is that they are branching out too far , and losing the core around which their community and following is based around
      I want to see their new games succeed , not forgotten a month or so after release
      and while most games are forgotten shortly after , the Soulsbourne games has managed to not only create a massive following but brought full communities dedicated to preserving and enhancing these games (look at all of the challenge runs and the huge amounts of mods , all of which are still being worked on by dedicated members)
      these games have always help focus for years , and I fear this one may stray so far from the formula that it won't provide enough staying power , lending it a brief time in the spotlights but nothing beyond

    • @1SWINZ1
      @1SWINZ1 6 років тому +2

      I have the same concerns, very much so. In fact, if Devil May Cry and Bayonetta weren't coming out in the near future(both likely highly replayable) and the only thing I had to look forward to was Sekiro, these concerns would be stinging me awfully. I depend on FromSoft for my gaming fix, so the idea that they would put out an unreplayable game is bad news for a guy like me who doesn't have much of anything else to play, simply because I don't like much else.
      Thank God for DMC5 and Bayo 3! If it wasn't for these games, yes, I think I'd be much less accepting of the changes that Sekiro has made.

    • @asiamatron
      @asiamatron 6 років тому

      @Aviv
      True, the Souls games have a way of enduring for years. I have wondered if Sekiro will have staying power like the Souls games considering it has no multiplayer, no builds etc.
      At the same time I understand that sooner or later FROM is going to want to branch out and take a risk. The downside to that is we may get a game that doesn't have as much replay value.
      I'm surprised Sekiro doesn't have more than one playable character like Tenchu. More characters might've added some more replay value. It also might've added something for players who like the different build variety of the Souls games.

    • @asiamatron
      @asiamatron 6 років тому +2

      @Swinny
      Yeah, if you tend to favor the Souls games over most other games (except for Bayo, DMC etc) then the future may be a bit rough. There's only so many Souls games FROM will put out before they decide to do something else.
      I play Souls games a lot myself so I understand why people like them over other games.

      It is so funny how you people never realized Fromsoftware is more than just Dark Souls and Bloodborne. They made Armored Core which is one of the best mech game franchise. I mean their very first main line up IP was King's Field series which became one of the biggest inspiration for the Soul games. Seriously, you people need to stop bitching about not getting what they want. If Miyazaki was to keep making a Soul game just because the retarded fanbase keeps asking for a Soul game. He will only release shit games due to lack of devotion.
      Let Miyazaki and Fromsoftware make games they want to make. Or all you will be getting are games with no substance.

      BattlefireTV You realize some of us have been playing FS games long before the Souls series, right? I see you replying to so many of these comments as if you hold the keys to some lost knowledge. FromSoftware was hit and miss AT BEST before Demon Souls was released. It says nothing negative about a gamer to be worried that they're 'returning to form,' when their last 'form' was so darn unpredictable in quality.

      You'd be surprised how many Souls "fans" aren't aware of a King's Field game. FS wasn't hit or miss. Their games were quite popular even in NA, but their main fanbase was in Japan because...welll, most of the KF sequels were only released in Japan.

    • @acadiansm
      @acadiansm 6 років тому +6

      Well i dont care what Myazaki wants? As a consumer I am stating that I want a sequel to BB, so as a producer of games he can either listen to what the consumers want or he can do his own thing and gamble on whether his "no more souls" games pans out.
      Either way I dont care for the 3 new games they announced, Sekirou doesnt do it for me, VR is a joke, and I never even heard of w.e that remaster series was before (so not interested)
      I have been a Fromsoft fan since Demon Souls, and have bought every Souls game they have made since then. If Myazaki is saying he no longer wants to cater to me as a consumer thats fine, I will look elsewhere for my souls fix, the surge 2 is looking good imo

    • @BattlefireTV
      @BattlefireTV 6 років тому +2

      You say you don't care what he wants which is very selfish. And you must care what Myazaki wants because if he was to create a game that he doesn't have any motivation or feels bored because it is another Bloodborne or any other soul game it is going to be a shit game.
      If Myazaki was to listen to what consumers want and make a game he has no interest and devotion. That game will lack any substance that makes Bloodborne great. A producer and director like him can only make something amazing if he feels happy and devoted about it. If he is getting tired making a soul game then it is best for him to move away from them because if he makes a soul game that he has zero interest in devotion in, it will fail.
      I would rather have him be free to do what makes him happy because I know he will make something amazing knowing that it is something he really wants to create and not something that people want him to do.
      I mean you realize Fromsoftware is more than Dark Souls and Bloodborne right? Their main franchise was Armored Core and before that King's Field franchise. If anything people are asking for the return of Armored Core and King's Field.
      Let him be free and not confined in a cage mate.

    • @acadiansm
      @acadiansm 6 років тому +2

      @BattlefireTV Its not selfish, because Myazaki is no longer just a developer, hes the head of his company and is thus a producer now, he doesnt personally have to work on a project to still have it be made, so he can still give the go ahead for a BB2 and not personally direct it. I personally didnt think DS2 was bad (i actually liked the MP aspects of it), so I am fine with a new Director as long as more soul-like games are being made.

  • @TheSpongyMallard
    @TheSpongyMallard 6 років тому +3

    An open world game that is constantly hard sounds so good to me. Open world games are often too easy or they start out hard, then get easy.
    I'm also really confused here. People have been for AGES criticize Activision on just making the same game over and over (Call of Duty) and the same goes for Assassin's Creed. Developers NEED to keep making different things to keep their creative mind at work. You get bored and worn out when you do the same thing over and over again and then quality goes down super fast.

    As a mythology nerd - the fey are scary AF in tradition

    • @GrahamChapman
      @GrahamChapman 6 років тому +3

      As a Scandinavian coming from a family where the tradition of telling folklore tales ran strong until last generation, I approve of this statement and concur with its message...
      My grandpa once told me a tale about a rich noble who met a strange man. The strange man claimed he was a fay and the noble mockingly challenged the man to prove his claim. The man replied that he'd do so by granting one of the noble's wishes. The noble haughtily replied "I already have everything I could ever wish for. At this point, all I can wish for is that you prove to me that you are a fay." (Biiig mistake.) The strange man walks out into the woods and disappears without another word and the noble's life immediately turns into a series of increasingly horrific tragedies... At the end of the story, (which was pretty long,) the noble's house has burned down along with his servants, he has lost his fortune to criminals, his friends have abandoned him, his wife and children have been killed, he has gone blind, become a cripple and is dying from some disfiguring pox that covers his body with pus-oozing sores. At long last, when he finally seeks out a priest to at least recieve his last rites before he passes on, the priest regretfully informs him that he cannot absolve the noble of his sins and that the noble will be unable to enter the heaven because he has entered an agreement with a heathen spirit... And thus the noble's wish at long last came true: All he had wished for was to know if the strange man really was a fay, and the knowledge that he indeed was a fay was all he was left with.
      Moral: Don't take the things you have for granted and never stop appreciating the things you do have. Be careful about what you say, and be careful what you wish for. Also, never act smug with a fay. They'll fuck your shit up.

      Considering pretty much all the Armored Core team left years ago to make that Nintendo Mech game, I think its safe to say AC is a done series, I feel your pain, but at least the team got to make their own new game. In a way the souls games were the worst thing to happen to From Software, even their own staff got fed up and left like the AC guys, and now gamers question anything they do outside of Souls. I think AC has been gone for too long to make any kind of profit now too, meh at least we can play the old games I guess.

    • @fusioncell7669

      But we do know that a new AC game was already confirmed to be in production thanks to interviews. Also, I thought the only ones from the Armored Core team to leave were Kenichiro Tsukuda and Shoji Kawamori, who worked on the older AC titles (but not the newer ones).

      I know its some members that worked on the older games, the really good ones, so you're right there, I also heard some staff left to work on Left Alive, not sure on the names of who left etc, to me its just a bad sign, when staff move and they go and basically make AC for Nintendo, if From Software are still working on AC6, then at this point its probably a PS5, xbox next gen launch game.

    Dark souls 2 is actually my favorite game in the series. I was waiting for it for so long that the moment I actually got to sit down and couch play it with my friend it was incredibly fun.
    Honestly each souls game has its own upsides and downsides. I'd say other than bosses dark souls 3 was the most uninteresting in the series. Everyone loves dark souls 1 but I'd have to say it's the most slow paced and tedious of the series. Bloodborne wasn't really difficult and it had the smallest weapon variety. Though Bloodborne had the most interesting world.

      bloodborne may have had a smaller quantity of weapons, but it certainly had way better quality. every weapon in the game is extremely unique, unlike the weapons in souls game were youre getting a straight sword, great sword curved sword ultra great sword... and the odd axe and spear. all very similar in playing style. bloodborne is the BEST game for its weapons

    • @DucksDoctor
      @DucksDoctor 6 років тому

      @@ovechkin100 we're getting into opinion territory and I'm not knocking trick weapons because they are extremely cool. But the variety from the souls weapons comes from their unique stats, special abilities, and movesets, not their category. Look at souls 1 with the bandits knife vs the poison dagger Cyrian uses, yes they are both daggers but the playstyles are monumentally different. Same with the Uchigatana and the really long katana whatever it's called. They have a lot of clone weapons but they all have their own little things that keep them unique. Where in bloodborne it's one dagger set, one katana, ect.

    I think one thing you're wrong on - they wont lose a lot of their audience, there is a reason that they released sekiro: SDT and the narrative experience at the same time.
    They're taking the time to expand whilst providing their consumer base with what they're familiar with. If you watched the trailer the VR game very much sounds and feels like Dark Souls storytelling, just without the combat (think the animated cutscenes of the games). Also, there are headsets for VR by microsoft called Microsoft mixed reality headset, even though they don't do AR but VR and sell for about £200 on ebay, much cheaper and more affordable than Vive or Rift.

    FromSoftware is classed in the same category as CDProjektRed. I dont care what anyone says, they are defining a whole genre by themselves and they are releasing full games that actually feel complete and dont make the player feel stupid by drip feeding them lore via tutorials and cutscenes and pop up messages. players have to actively search out and find it themselves and its really a good feeling reaching hundred percent on their games. I cant wait for Sekiro and Bloodborne 2 (Although i wager it will be on the next gen as a release title)

    bloodborne was my first souls experience, it was right when ps plus released it for free. the cinematic feel, and overall experience from the ost to the details and hints of the lovecraftian made it by far the greatest gaming experience of my life. as a souls virgin i had no idea what to expect, i started the game with no internet connection to play online or using notes, and i didnt look anything up until well after level 40. it was incredible, and i dont think i will ever get that level of awe from a game ever again. even though the souls games will be a fresh experience, i know what to expect. and i prefer the imagery of bloodborne to that of souls, though i will say i like the diversity of weaponry better in souls (i have played a decent chunk of 3 and lots of pvp on roomates game). so no chance of the others topping bloodborne i would think. great video man, and i totally agree. having a weapon throughout the game and no lvl system can make the single player much better, bc like you said, you cannot simply level up until shits easy, you have to beat it under controlled conditions, more similar to classic action games.

    If you are a fan who played all of the soulsborne series, I think most of us see the potential for what a 'souls like' series can do in the future. Maybe it won't be Fromsoft or Miyazaki who do it. Maybe they'll move onto other projects. But there is an audience of people who want to play these kinds of games for one reason or another and eventually someone will cater to that somehow. Maybe it's the feeling of achievement to play a game that is actually difficult for a change, maybe it's playing a game that doesn't hold your hand and just says "figure it out". Maybe it's the feeling of being the predator who invades another innocent player, to give him the pain of dying like what happened to you the first time you were invaded in Lordran, Drangelic, or Lothric... Maybe it's the achievement of having a balanced 1v1 with another player and coming out on top. Maybe it's how other people appreciate your help in advancing them past difficult bosses... There's a charm in it all.
    I don't want dark souls to die. I don't want a re-skinned game either. I want the genre to strive to reach it's potential, and create greater games like these that have us still playing them years later for thousands of hours that we fill with both frustration and laughter.

      *+Chris Greely* Whether it's a 2d side-scrolling bossrush run-and-gun/shmup game, or a 3d dark fantasy RPG, beating a supremely difficult boss after having fought against it for potentially hours on end, carefully learning its patterns and getting a little bit further with each attempt until you've finally gotten gud, it still produces the same exhilarating rush once you succeed... Unlike many, many other games, Cuphead and DS aren't "power fantasies" meant to give you the satisfaction of feeling like a god cutting down armies of warriors that get in your way... instead, they're the game equivalent of taking a big, warm slice of pizza covered with molten cheese and an ice cold can of cola, placing a rabid, firebreathing demon from the infernal realm of Wrath between you and your dinner, throwing you a broken sword, a wooden shield and a peashooter and then telling you "If you really are as hungry as you say you are, then go get your food." That pizza is going to be delicious once you get your hands on it.

    Big raging agreement from me, for sure. I love From singleplayer experience far more than its multiplayer, at least when it comes to soulsborne, but I will admit that From has always been at the epicenter of online innovation. The invasion mechanic in Demon's Souls was incredibly new at its time, and another game not-so-fondly remembered, Chromehounds, had a multiplayer system that would go on to inspire games like planetside and others. I love the single-player, and am so stoked to have a "curated" experience painstakingly designed by the artists, but I can't say I'm not at least a little disappointed about no multiplayer. Not even for my sake, but the parry system looks gorgeous, and more so like it would lend itself to a great online component for the gravelords of the group. Just wish both worlds were possible here.

      Just wait, something's going to be fucky. Look at Destiny and Call of Duty and their business practices there.

      No it hasn’t 😂 you’re making yourself look ignorant.
      FS said they paired up act to get tips on how to change and take a new direction.(FS is branching out and looked for guidance).

    If you ever played Tenchu its easy to see, That Shadows die twice, started off as a new Tenchu game and then morphed into its own IP at some point.

    I would like a game based in a different culture or a different biosphere. Like a game set completely underwater or in outer space. Or a game based on the different historical periods of places like Egypt, Africa, China, India, Russia, etc.

    Could you imagine bloodborne 2 with this fluidity. The first already had the fast paced and best combat. But jumping and slinging arrogance a level in the hunters nightmare would be insane

    I understand they don’t want to be known only for the soulsborne series, but I hope there is at least the enjoyable boss fights and creativity in character builds.
