Hermes has become a "cult" at this point. Why would you have the "privilege" to purchase a US$30,000.00 bag? That sounds ridiculous and I blame social media. If Hermes wants to dupe people into spending thousands for a basic overrated leather bag so be it. Go bananas. Dupes are everywhere. Lots of retailers sell "dupes" like this Walmart bag. From what I understand, this is a genuine leather bag. It screams "dupe" not "counterfeit". If it was counterfeit, then it would be a problem. High end "luxury" has lost its flair. This is a non-issue.

Exactly. It's a dupe, not a fake. Hermes' quality is top-notch, but their whole buying experience is a scam: you can't order a Birkin; you have to cultivate a relationship with a sales person and have to buy several items before you can get on a Birkin waitlist, etc. Several former Hermes employees have videos on UA-cam talking about the scam. My favorite is the guy who used a loaf of Wonder Bread for the Birkin.

I really don’t care as long as someone isn’t being cheated by someone who sells the genuine item and it really is a fake. The Birkin has never really appealed to me so I think people should buy what they like as long as they know what they are buying.

I have to chime in on this topic. I am a leather crafter that started making handbags after hearing how expensive these luxury brands are selling there products for. I can tell you right now, I can make that birken bag with top quality leather and craftsmanship. There are already leather crafters that make these bags and sell them. I have inspected luxury brands $2500 bags that look mass produced and are complete garbage leather. Buyer beware, a luxury label does not mean you bought a luxury bag.

For example, the bags you buy on *regbags* are so good and so cheap, it is hard to tell if they are real or fake, the point is they are still very cheap and of great quality.

It is a dupe, not a fake, because it is not stamped with the Hermes logo. If Hermes was going to take legal action, they would have sent a cease and desist letter immediately and they have not (as far as I can see on the almighty internet). Also, there are lots of brands that sell dupes online, and have been, for years with no issues. Hermes has been silent, in my opinion, for the following reasons: even with their brand value what it is, I don't think they want to tangle with Wal-Mart's lawyers; second, they are already in a high profile litigation about their selling practices, so them being seen as not wanting a certain demographic...Wal-Mart customers...to not have access to an item that simply looks like the Birkin, is not good for their case of limiting access. I don't have one of these bags, but all the videos I have seen have said they are real leather. In the 90s and prior, you could walk into Hermes and buy a bag off the shelf or put down a 50% deposit and wait for it to be made if you wanted a specific color or leather. So, what changed? Maybe it was the increase of the "nuveaux riche" and social media money over the last few decades? There are so many wealthy people with massive collections of these bags, so how could they be rare? Also, if you have seen the inside of Fashionphile, the RealReal, and all the other big reseller's vaults, they each have thousands of these bags in every color of the rainbow. Yes, there are rare bags (Himalayan and diamond encrusted), but Hermes is just another corporation that seems to have been able to take advantage of certain elements of the human psyche.

I used to understand it as something made exceeding mass produced QUALITY. And people used to pay for that. But now people will pay large amounts for crap that has little longevity just to have a label. Sad downturn, just like everything else in society.

So those who're outraged (understandably?) are basically angry that somebody dared to make their "exclusive club" utterly relative and basically non-existent. The frustration about Walmart’s ‘Wirkin’ makes me think about how much society ties worth to material possessions. Owning a Birkin often comes with layers of stress-security, insurance, and even the need to flaunt it as a status symbol. On the other hand, someone with a Wirkin can enjoy the simple pleasure of having a stylish bag without the baggage (pun intended).
At the end of the day, the value of a person shouldn't hinge on the bag they carry but on the kindness they show. There’s room in the world for both the Birkin and the Wirkin, and we should celebrate people’s choices without judgment. After all, life’s too short to measure happiness by price tags or history-let’s just cheer each other on, regardless of what bag we’re holding.

It is to make a statement to Birkin and to people who have an inflated ego about being offered a Birkin that a bag doesn’t and shouldn’t determine who we are. Please don’t get me wrong. I would like to purchase a Birkin too and I have saved my heard earned salary but I refuse to be ill treated or discriminated at an Hermes’ store. Not only does one have to build a shopping history which is bad, I know that I will be discriminated at the store based on the color of my skin. I dread walking into a luxury store because I do not want people to judge me for no reason based on what I am wearing or how I look. I haven’t killed anyone, raped anyone, sexually molested anyone. To me that's what it sounds like they are wanting to do. But again company are seeking rights that they don't want people to have. It's like buying electronic versions of things like books and music because when their licencing is up they pull it back from you even though you "bought" it. Realistically anyone could make a fake of a handbag if they have the time do to the availability of images of items online and the ability to purchase leathers online. Would it take awhile yes but it can be done if you really wanted it.

While the Wirkin doesn’t feature any trademarked logo, its creators-or even Walmart-could potentially face challenges under the trade dress category of trademark law. Trade dress refers to the design or packaging of a product when that design serves as a symbol identifying the product's source. Ultimately, the decision to take legal action against them lies with Hermès. Such a decision would depend on the brand’s evaluation of the potential impact on its reputation and the strength of the case under trademark law. That said, if you ask me, I’m fairly certain Hermès' legal team is already working on it.

Why would they only go after Walmart now?
Wouldn't it diminish their case when it's revealed that they chose to ignore the same items on Amazon or other marketplace sellers?
Also, Walmart is selling this from their marketplace, not their own line of fashion that they license and distribute. So how can they go after them as a marketplace?
I've seen far worse examples on Etsy, which is another marketplace, where they sold pictures of "cheese pizza" which were actually chiId expIoitation images instead. But Etsy doesn't get in trouble for that. The seller listing it in their marketplace does (and should, clearly!). How is this different from that example?

But doesn’t it already become others’ business when it’s put up for sale again, it’s just by a supposed private consumer instead of the retailer… And I am really not a fan of those resellers that buy up ALL of a product first (because they have an ‘in’, more disposable income, use bots, etc.) and then jacking up the price 2 + times the original. See this a lot with event tickets, sneakers (Jordan’s, etc), and now even at stores like Marshall’s/TJX they’re shopping specifically for viral items & buying ALL of that already limited inventory at each & every store they can…. Basically they make the item near impossible to get other than from a reseller (when it wouldn’t necessarily be otherwise). I get making money however u best can, but seems like it just costs the fellow consumer more money, and in the end everyone pays more when the retailer starts raising prices because they have seen that their items will actually sell for more… personally I try to completely avoid buying items thru online resellers as to not ‘support’ it (or get ripped off lol). And obviously different types of reselling has been around forever in different formats (pawn shops, flea markets, general stores, etc.), but idk, maybe we can just go back to garage/yard sales where u would get lucky every once in a while & find a luxury/rare item for a fair negotiated price 😂

It’s different in Europe where you can make a wishlist without much or any prespend. But, in the US prespend is basically required. So, there’s no love lost amongst many people in the US and so dupes will be an issue here so long as Hermes ices out American consumers who would like to purchase their quota bags.

IMO luxury is NOT having to compete or get lucky to get a specific item. That's some sort of weird recreation of a poverty scarcity mindset but for the rich. Luxury is being able to buy a fine item because you have the money. If somebody says "no, having the money actually isn't good enough," that's the opposite of luxury to me. "Limited," does not necessarily mean "luxury." Having to wait for something to be custom made is fine. But having to compete to get it? Why?
I'm also in the category of not caring about the wirkin. Fakes and dupes have existed forever and will continue to exist. If that bothers people carrying designer bags, why? Only buy it if you like it enough to not care if someone else has it. If you're buying it solely for the exclusivity, you're always at risk if a fake or dupe becomes popular.

The entire debate ignore the point of there having always been "homages" of the Birkin that did not carry the logo but had the same shape and construction method. This is nothing new except for it being available on Walmart's marketplace which exposed a lot more people to the fact that they exist than before.
And let's be real for a second, none of the big houses are "luxury" in all aspects. They make some truly rare items if that is your definition of luxury; they also make some that are outrageously expensive, such as some of the LV or Hermes furniture pieces that retail for well into the six-figures
Perceived scarcity, or MTO, as well as the MSRP are just mechanisms to trigger an intended image among customers. A run-of-the-mill Birkin has never been that hard to get unless they sniff you out as gullible enough to do the little dance.
On the Porsche comparison, that's also a fairly new practice that is often circumvented with kickbacks. Luxury second-hand new car dealers can still source any Porsche you want within days, and their supply suggests that, again, those measures are more PR than practice.
Some consumers need to stop with the pearl-clutching and external validation through material goods, all of these items are mass-produced after all.

You see dupes of The Row Margaux, dupes of Bottega Jodie, dupes of everything popular. This happens because you cannot trademark a clothing or bag design, it is considered too utilitarian. This happens with clothing as well. If it isn’t counterfeit with the brand logo, it’s legal. Of course Hermes can send letters to pressure Walmart to take them down and they might just because it’s easy for them to stop allowing the seller to sell.

What I do think is that the conversations within the zeitgeist about the Wirkin, the perceived value of top tier luxury goods and the ethics of the arguably predatory retail practices of Hermes are all indicative of a much larger cultural discourse that we have been teetering on the edge of for years now. It feeds into much bigger questions about classism, access, equity, consumerism...if you look at this conversation against the backdrop of the Luigi of it all, I think we are poised for some major culture clashes and reckonings, at least here in the US.

It could also be a secret cooperation between the two companies. A clever move to potentially attract new customer groups. Or to test the popularity of certain colors in advance.

In the state that the world is in right now with poverty and homelessness being rampant, you and everyone else have the nerve to debate about this overrated Hermes bag that is actually not all that good looking in the first place. You wealthy people who allow Hermes to treat you like that just to buy this ugly bag are just plain silly. Obsession with designer labels is the biggest scam on earth especially since most of these products are made with slave labor mostly using children. Your priorities are in the wrong order. God help us.

Would you consider looking at the Delvaux bag? And Fauere la Page?

The variety of textures in the *eudupe* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.

I would never waste my money on a Burkin. If I had enough money for an overpriced bag or Porsche I’d rather spend the money on my parents having a comfortable retirement. Seriously I’m speechless over this pointless debate

The materials used are top notch. The leather feels soft and luxurious, exactly like the real thing. The stitching is impeccable, with no loose or uneven lines. The hardware (including the iconic CC twist lock clasp) is durable, well made, and adds to the overall elegance of the bag *eudupe* . I thought everyone who owned an LV monogram bag knew that it was obviously coated canvas? When people spend a fortune on an expensive bag, they might as well buy a replica

Hermes is absolutely ridiculous. I feel luxury means high quality and I do not see it with their handbags. People become excited after buying ashtrays, scarves, trays until the sales person finally informs them they may now purchase a Birkin.
The Walmart brand is real leather. I can’t really tell the difference. The straps are a bit longer than the real Birkin. They look the same inside. No logo on the bag. I think the lock and key are different. Would someone mistake it for a real one? I think so until looking at the details.
I feel the Birkin is NOT worth it. It’s a true waste of money. You might as well publicly burn your money in the face of those struggling. I would be ashamed carrying something like this. Customers could put people through college or pay off someone’s house help somebody get off the street, et cetera. But instead they spend $75,000 on an ugly purse that really isn’t any better than a purse you can get at Walmart.
Those you were calling her mad and saying all something has to be done about this I assume that’s all they are . Their whole personality and life revolves around a bag an ugly bag at that. It says A LOT about the type of person complaining. Disgusting

Totally agree with what you said about Hermes being so rare but you see them everywhere, every luxury reseller has so many variations of Hermes bags available to buy. It’s just ridiculous.

Ok.. so im at 16:50 and you mention the heart shape chanel.. as im looking up a leather heart shaped bag.. do i want the chanel, nope. Not after the whole deal with it. I've never been "i've gotta buy a brand" always been, what i like i like so i'll get that.. It sucks it was gate-keeped like it was but it's just not worth the fuss in the end.
