Two books by Peter Guralnick are the best place to start: Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley
@@OneWayJesus777-x2n I wouldn't recommend Child Bride, The author clearly hated Priscilla and the accusation that Priscilla had sex with a guy just to get to Elvis' house is disgusting. I'm no fan of Priscilla's but that book clearly had an agenda to make her look bad. I would read Jerry Shillings' book instead.
Please share your source of information regarding Elvis’s age when he met Priscilla. Since Elvis was drafted at age 19 and served in the Army for 2 years, he would not be 24 when he met Priscilla.
Thank you for your review, I enjoyed it! I've read the book and seen the movie. I expected this book to give her point of view, which is not always the complete truth. I don't expect the book to tell us that although she was young, her parents were fine with the match, especially the living at Graceland under someone else's supervision. It also doesn't tell us how Elvis was very much pressured by the parents even resulting to threats, if he didn't marry her. These were things that many interviews with family and friends substantiated. I think Elvis was a man who wasn't perfect, but she was a 14 year old with parents that should have done more than given consent and allowed some of these things to happen. They certainly all benefitted from it, that's for sure.
Remember he had drug issues and his temper and attitude, mood swings worsened. I love Elvis but I would not have wanted to be married to him. He was a big jumble of contradiction and mixed values. As a feminist myself I can understand the issues in his behavior but he was a good person living under unimaginable pressure of basically being the golden goose for so many people around him. The age thing, as others have said, people in those days married much earlier and it was not viewed the same way as today. Times were different- they met when she was 14 but he left the army soon after that and she wouldn't have seen him for 2 more years. Remember in those days there was no instant communication like nowadays so they wouldn't have been sexting or anything like that. They rarely spoke, she sent him letters. She was 16/17 when she saw him again. In the south where he was from, that age gap would've been fine. He had old-fashioned views on women yet he was so Liberal I other ways and so compassionate. Like I said, I wouldn't have wanted to be one of his women but to have been a friend would've been great. Another lady, Sandy Martindale states she dated him from 14 (he was probably 21 ish) but she said all they did was hold hands for 6 years and her mother chaperoned them on dates. We are judging by our standards where people seem to jump into bed straight away whereas in those days people waited. He was not predatory. She talks about him beautifully. Considering he was less than a faithful partner all of his exes love him dearly to this day. Ann Margret is the only one who has not written a book on their relationship - true class imo and they remained great friends until his untimely death x
Priscilla and Joe's stories have changed over the years. I nearly choked when Priscilla and Lisa said the Elvis move was true as it wasnt factual in many areas
ELVIS was never arrested for his dancing but they threatened to arrest him. He went into the army because he was drafted and he was a patriotic person he wanted to serve.
You are so topical of this era, I am a child of the 50's and people didn't live so long back then, me and most of my friends were married by 18. In Tennessee in the 50's the age of consent was 14. It was common place. Priscilla is not the martyr you think she was. She even had 2 affairs while she was married to Elvis. The movie shows her tearful goodbye but in real life she happily ran off with her Karate instructor Mike Stone. Elvis was a southern gentleman. After he died and could write everything to justify her leaving him. You are young and gullible. I lived it I am 78 and you have no idea how the 50's were. Elvis continued to be kind and generous. He was no saint but he wasn't a preditor, he never said one unkind thing about while he was alive.
well, the thing is that we will never know what's going on there. We hear many stories and that's it, the rest we can just make fantasies. Never loose head about somebody you don't know personally
Yes I read this book several years ago. What I took from it was she still loved Elvis at the time she wrote it. But the '60s and seventies were a different time, but you have to say he was controlling. And she was very young. I didn't think very much about the age difference because I had a friend that was older and she was married at 13. But you're right it's too young to get married but you can still legally get married at age 12 in some states in the United States. I like your review. I don't think of Elvis as evil I just think of him as a human being with faults.
i think "controlling" is spot on. he wasnt evil (in my opinion) either. but i guess i always thought of him as flawless LOL (mainly because i only knew about his music and nothing else) so when i saw he had some major flaws i was like 😨 haha the elvis in my head was turned upside down. still obsessed tho 💘
Very well said! I just left a similar comment, prior to now reading yours. Just like you, I let Elvis be a Human Being first, then a “Celebrity” second. The human will ALWAYS be flawed, regardless of how amazing they are at their profession.
Yes the ABC 1988 tv movie Elvis and Me was really well made. Dale Midkiff and Susan Waters played a wonderful Elvis and Cilla. The new movie about their lives might not appeal to me because the actor and actress looks like they are still in college. I mean they look like college students. Dale and Susan were both mature for their roles.
Dale Midkiff's voice & mannerisms are like Elvis's for real, he didn't have to try hard to imitate Elvis. He was the starring actor in the T.V. "Time Trax" series. I thought Susan Walters closely resembled Priscilla, as Dale Midkiff resemble Elvis.
I really liked this book a lot when I was younger .. I read it probably in 1986 when I was 22. I re-read it a few times prior to turning 30. I'm sure I had a lot less capacity to understand personal truth vs hard cold facts back then. Now I'm 58 and I have a granddaughter about the age Priscilla was when dating Elvis ... and I've read so many other books and I can say that all the memoir type books about him seem to have tons of contradictions ... so I now view them as stories. The best way I can think about the people who were in Elvis' life is: he loved them and had them beside him at least for a time ... and I love and respect Elvis flaws included so I will do my best to love and respect them all too. The best story of Elvis' life can be extracted from his actual words, his music, and real pictures and footage of him and his people and his world. I do mightily wish he were here to write his story himself but even that might contradict the actual evidence lol. :) I loved the new movie so much - and probably years ago I would not have since it does take such liberties with facts but yet here we are ... a whole new generation of new fans will take our places and that's a good thing. Plus the new movie even though intense and sad - is also so inspiring and thought provoking!!!! So grateful we live in a time where we can view old concert footage and tv special at the tap of our fingers!!!!!!
i feel similarly. this book was really hard to read but i still consider myself a fan of elvis, despite the fact that he was deeply flawed and sexist. his music is so powerful. and i will forever love the movie-austin butler did an amazing job :’)
@@LochsLibrary It's true, he was sexist in his expectations of a wife - which can be weird to think about, especially because one of his great loves was Ann Margaret, very much an equal in terms of work, so I'm not sure how that would have worked out. He was definitely a product of his time and of the South, where the woman stayed home and served her man, and the man went out and made the money and cheated whenever he wanted because "it's different for men". Definitely not a flattering or admirable viewpoint by today's standards! He wanted a woman who would give up her life for him and look after him. That's a hell of a ask for anyone, especially when you leave them alone so often. On the other hand, there is so much to admire about him (generous, kind, loving, humble, funny, etc) that it's hard not to be a fan as you learn more, even through all his faults. No one is perfect, but he brought - and still brings - so much joy to so many people.
@@sackofnachos If Elvis cheated on Priscilla she didn't know about it, not according to her book. However we know she cheated first with her dance instructor and then with Mike Stone who she left Elvis for. Stone left his pregnant wife and a small child for Priscilla but it didn't last long. A couple of years later she kicked Stone out and moved on to another man.
Priscilla had two affairs while married to Elvis. She is not the angel she wants everyone to think she is. The review of the book was not very nice on Elvis Everyone has their faults, Elvis had his like everyone does. But our bad habits are not written about in a book for all the world to see Pls give Elvis the respect he deserves He is only human. She knew how Elvis was before she married ,& was a fool to think she could change things in Elvis's world.
If Pricilla would have written this book while he was still alive, which would have given him a chance to rebut anything, it would be more believable. Most is contradictory. My personal perspective is that he was aware of her young age, but kept contact with her until she got a little older so it would be more acceptable for them to date. Her parents would not have approved if Elvis was just an average Joe. There's more to this than we know. It's one sided. I would like to hear his side of things if that were possible.
When I was in my early teens I remember having crushes on adult male celebrities and not even thinking about how big the age gap was. Looking back I cringe. Elvis was also said to be pretty immature so maybe at first she didn't notice the age gap so much... ❤🎼
Yeah every story i read about him, he is described as a kid. Like he never matured past 19 when he hit it big. His costar in girls girls girls was 7yrs younger than him but she said elvis was like a younger brother to her bec he was not very exposed while she was more. worldly. She also said that elvis was very deferential towards her like she was his older sister
I grew up with Elvis always being played in our house and remember very well the day he passed away. I have read Priscilla's book and Child Bride by Suzanne Finstad. Child Bride answered more of the questions I had. Elvis met her only a few weeks before he left Germany. She was 14 when he met her, but I think that was more arranged by her father, a Captain in the Air Force, pulling strings. The fact that her parents would allow their 14-year-old daughter to meet Elvis is one thing, but they allowed her to go to a private party of GIs? That in itself is crazy. She also didn't see him again after he left Germany until she was 16, coming to the states to see him in L.A. When she came to live with him in Memphis in March of 63, two months before her 18th birthday and graduating high school that June. Elvis had a steady girlfriend, Anita Wood, whom he was involved with before, during, and for about a year after he returned from the Army. Priscilla has changed her story over the years quite a few times. In her book and in the movie version, she claims she met Elvis 6 months before Elvis left Germany, and after he left, she wouldn't eat, leave her room, and cried all the time. She also said she didn't date. The author of Child Bride flew to Germany to investigate and found her high school yearbook with pictures in it that she was very active in school and pictures of her at her prom and on dates with boys, all since she had met Elvis. Priscilla also said that Elvis would not have sex with her because he wanted her to be a virgin when he married her. That is BS. It wouldn't have mattered if he was in love with her and planning to marry her. He still would have been her first. She also admits he wouldn't sleep with her after they had Lisa. She also writes that 7 months after they were married, he wanted a separation. I am sorry, but if there is a man who is refusing to have sex with you, then he is either gay, which we know Elvis wasn't, or he isn't interested or sees you in a romantic way. I think Elvis was willing to allow Priscilla to come to live with him, thought of her like a kid sister, and who he really fell in love with was Ann-Margaret. I think he was being threatened by her dad to marry her, and her dad probably told her to get pregnant immediately to keep a hold of Elvis. I always wondered how this girl, who, according to her, barely graduated from high school, could later become such a successful businesswoman, owning and operating a boutique she owned after her divorce from Elvis to become the successful entrepreneur she has. Somewhere she had been studying up or planning. I think she has once again changed her story now that we are living in cancel culture and pedophilia, so Elvis is not mistaken as being that. Priscilla revealed too much and has even said she regretted it.
This is Pricilla’s story Elvis is not here to defend or tell his side , I don’t appreciate people that do this after the person has passed & this happens far too often
And it's coming in spades with Priss' very own movie. Watching her 1985 interview with Barbara walters is telling... Babs even pointed out that Priss was describing abuse.
Priscilla is a born again liar the book is full of crap Willmott but it Priscilla will do anything for money no interest in her it's a one sided piece of crap
@@dsoule4902 Yes Priscilla did abuse Elvis by cheating on him first with her dance instructor just a year after she married him and then with Mike Stone who she left Elvis for. According to her book Elvis and Me she had no evidence Elvis was unfaithful during their marriage.
I've read the book and seen the movie based off the book. You really do have to just get over the age thing, people get hung up on it. In the south during this era this was normal, period. We can't look at it through the lens of todays social norms that's completely unfair . Young women dated/married older men my great grandpa was 24 & great grandma was 16 when they married. My grandpa was 21 and grandma 15 when they married. It was just the culture. Yes, by todays standard unacceptable but this was 65-70 years ago, a lot has changed. And most of us Elvis fans know he was a crappy husband & a womanizer. He was human, he wasn't perfect. But, we love the guy. I think you can be horribly flawed & still be, at your core a good person. It's probably why Priscilla still loves him so much. She could see all the good in him despite his obvious shortfalls. And honestly I've never seen a person who actually met him say he was anything but a wonderful human being & that includes his ex's. And, I don't feel like you're attacking him but, I do hope you read or watch some some more documentaries about him & I think you'll find, like most of us fans he has many more redeeming qualities than negative ones.
do you have any documentaries you recommend? i’ve watched a few but one of them i couldn’t even finish it was so poorly done but yea definitely people were weird as hell back in the day. really glad we came to our senses and decided 18+ to be the norm (with *some* states being 17+) i do think it’s important to address the issues but yea we can move past it and admire what he accomplished for sure. i’m new to the world of elvis so this is all new for me but i’m sure for so many of his fans this is all old news. 😅 but when i see some of his fans completely deny his flaws i’m like uhhhh 👀 admitting he had these issues doesn’t keep us from loving his music and whatnot. but i get that some people really idolize him and it probably hurts them to admit he wasn’t perfect
@@LochsLibrary 200 Cadillac's is a great documentary. I mean I idolize him. I have his autograph tattooed on my arm. But, I also know that no one is perfect & that's just a fact.
@@mattbowen4350 awesome, i’ll check it out. and yea totally get it, as soon as i was done reading the book i went and watched the new elvis movie for the 8 or 9th time. 😂 elvis is unlike any other “celebrity” because of how talented and passionate he was.
Folks who visited Elvis’s home while his mother was still alive were “shocked” at the unusually “close” relationship Elvis and Gladys had Including talking baby talk even around visitors. According to one account, Gladys would even cajole Elvis to come “sit on her lap” I think She just wanted to keep him “a child.” I believe that his patterns of relationship with women were born out of how his mother “infantilized” Elvis making his ability to relate to women very distorted. RIP, Elvis 💝
He was not grooming her. Elvis was a decent guy. It was priscilla who asked him to have sex with her, but Elvis said no she was too young and waited until they got married when she was 21 and he 31. Elvis never wanted to marry priscilla, but he was pressured to marry her by his manager and her step dad. Before his wedding his maid found him in the kitchen crying, She asked Elvis why he didn't just cancel it if it was making him so unhappy and he apparently replied, "I don't have a choice." The whole wedding was arranged by Parker, lasted only eight minutes. But of course Priscilla denys it. Elvis was not a bad guy, but he hated confrontation, especially with his manager. Read these books, .last train to Memphis and careless love by Peter guralnick. .Elvis by the Presleys .Elvis: My Best Man. .The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley. .Me and a Guy Named Elvis .Inside Graceland: Elvis' Maid Remembers
I am 64 and grew up mostly in Louisiana. Times were different. The legal age for marriage with parental consent in Mississippi was 13 in 1950’s. (gross, but true.) It was not uncommon for the man to be older. Though cringe worthy, the time period must be considered. For example, I was in high school in the 1970’s. I had friends that were married by 15. A girl was seen as an old maid by 25. My counselor in high school actually told me I did not need to go to college since I was going to marry a college man. That was a big assumption on his part. When I got married in 1978 vowing to obey your husband was still in marriage vows. (I refused to do that. ) I look back to movies that I grew up with and am horrified with what was normal in our time. The objectification of women in the movies was just the norm for us. My daughters look at those movies with disgust as they should. I have to agree with you regarding Priscilla’s parents. I will never understand why they let their 17 year old daughter move half way across the world and move in with him. I would have put my daughter in the all girls boarding school with high walls before I would let that happen. In that book and interviews she somewhat defends her parents choice. Can wrap my mind around it. I have been an Elvis fan for 58 years,. but I don’t have blinders on. He had some significant issues in his life. I don’t think it helped being famous. Sadly, no one said no to Elvis. Some fans blame Priscilla for the divorce. Personally, I don’t know how she hung in as long as she did. Good for her for going off to have a life of her own. RECOMMEND READING: The Last Train to Memphis ( birth to army) . Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley. ( army to death) Both by Peter Guralnick. The author used many sources to write the books. The bibliography is approx 30 pages long in each book.
Speaking "her/his truth" doesn't mean that it's "the truth". When someone says "their truth" thats semantics, what they are really trying to tell you is that it's their "point of view" or in some respects "their opinion". In regard to Priscilla, I'd hold her points of view to a higher standard than most, albeit it's still best to cast a wider net and read more from the others that also knew Elvis (and Priscilla) best and look at interviews and lectures on the subject of Elvis.
Actually “my truth” refers to “how it affected me, how I felt when this happened. It is my “experience of an event, relationship. It is self-reflective. It is not an opinion “about anyone” or” a point of view” about anybody else.
I read the book many years ago and even though I enjoyed the book I know now that the book was complete BS. This was an obvious MoneyGrab... If Elvis was as bad to her as she states in the book they would’ve never become best friends after the divorce. It’s just common sense.
She later on said she was angry when she wrote the book, so eventhough it was real. She might have left out some good stuff and mainly put in the bad things she was pissed off about
Crack the whip is when you have a bunch of people holding hands while on ice skates. They all skate in the same direction creating a fast moving circle. The cracking of the whip, is when the skaters abruptly change direction, forcing the people on the end of the hand holding chain to break free from the rest. This was a popular game to play with a bunch of people on the ice. Back in the day, Priscilla living in Germany , the age of consent was 14, it wasn’t uncommon for women to marry at that age in Germany. Make no mistake, Priscilla wasn’t a victim in this story, she knew what she was getting into before she married him. Elvis has always had many girlfriends all through his life, even when Priscilla moved to the USA (without her parents), Elvis was still living a rock and roll lifestyle hooking up with other women while Priscilla stayed home. By the way, what kind of parents would be ok with that? The kind that see $. There are lots of stories out there. Unfortunately even the people who knew Elvis, aren’t being honest about what he was like. He is loved for his looks, music, generosity, humble, Christian man he portrayed. Finding out the truth and secrets takes time. Enjoy your new curiosity.
Did you know him personally? I'm guessing not.......therefore "your truth" is not based on just facts, but on BS rumors, misinformation, a lot of exaggerations and aassumptions made by people who didn't know him or just wanted to make money off him! Elvis had his flaws but he was a great artist and a good person!
To me I would take this story with a grain of salt. While there might be some truth to it, I feel like Pricilla has overblown some aspects of the story. She originally never said anything bad or harsh about Elvis and only commented about the issues he had later in his life. But then once this book came out she trashed his reputation hard. But considering all of this it is kind of ironic that now that the new film has come out her views on her late husband have changed. I don’t really know whether or not to believe her now, because it seems that whatever she does is to get a profit off of Elvis’ earnings. You can literally watch her interviews and see how her story has changed. I feel like this book is a bad representation of a man who is not around to defend himself for things that are mostly hearsay. It can give a bad impression of a great artist to many young up and coming fans who might be turned away due to our modern political climate.
yea i have watched some of her recent interviews and she’s always so kind when talking about him! seems like she has nothing but love for him so i went into this book thinking it was going to be harmony & bliss. 😅 even in the book i could tell she still really loves elvis.. it made me sad to read because i am sure there is truth to it, but how much i guess we will never know. and i did find some inconsistencies.. for example she said that espocito gave elvis mouth to mouth resuscitation but in a documentary i watched, he said himself that was a rumor and never happened.. at the end of the day it’s all just so sad and reminds me why i never follow celebrities lives. lol. because there is always drama and something to analyze but elvis has just made such an impact, he to me is worth taking my time to learn about. i think in 2027 we’re going to get the autopsy report. and then we will just all be sad all over again 🥺
@@LochsLibrary Yeah, I mean a lot of people just see the whole “they met when she was 14” without delving much into the whole story and just make Elvis out to be a pedophile, but to his argument 16 was the legal age back then and Elvis only really talked to her during their first meeting due to her father being Elvis’ commanding officer. Elvis was in a very vulnerable state at this time because his mother had recently just passed. I think he wasn’t searching for a lover, just more of a friend at that time and Pricilla seemed to understand what he was going through. A lot of people think Elvis fell in love with her, but if you do some research you can find out that much of their relationship and marriage was due to Parker kind of forcing the two into marrying and having a kid for publicity. Elvis never wanted to get married and hence why their marriage fell apart so quickly. They still talked to each other a lot after their divorce and both of them even admitted they preferred being friends. Great video though! Can I get your thoughts on the new Elvis movie?
@@memesouls8653 i agree. his mother had just died and he was lonely. i think what’s more shocking than them becoming friends while she was young was how he behaved at times but i don’t think he ever intentionally harmed priscilla (doesn’t make him innocent, but still, i do think he had a good heart). but i do remember reading somewhere (not in this book) that he never was interested in marriage. probably because he knew he didn’t want just one partner lol. which i mean, to each their own. i think he felt obligated to marry her. i’m sure he loved her but not everyone is cut out for marriage. it’s not for everyone. and i don’t think it was for elvis. but i do think he loved her and was definitely heartbroken when she left. i love the new movie, i’ve seen it at least 7 or 8 times now (watched it again last night 😅). i cry every time at the ending it’s just so sad. main reason i even read this book was because i love the movie so much! between the new movie, old documentaries, and this book, elvis is portrayed differently every time. 😅 seems like he was definitely an imperfect human but his music is pretty flawless
Apparently there was a lot of books put out by a lot of people after he passed with A LOT of BS in them. Like his step mother wrote a book saying he had committed incest with his own mother Gladys and that he had gay lovers.
@@memesouls8653 If you were a friend of Elvis and you meant a lot to him and you helped him in a time of need he always brought you into the circle. Which literally meant living at his house or something. I totally think without Parker they never would have married.
I think you’re over reacting a bit to this book saying it makes you gag & how shocking it is, first of all Priscilla was almost 15 when Elvis left Germany Elvis left in March 1960 as Priscilla was coming up 15 in May ( & was not so innocent & like many have said please read child bride ) She was not abused or groomed she pursued Elvis she became what he wanted her to be because she wanted him & wanted to please him, before he left Germany she begged him to consummate their love but he wouldn’t because of her age that’s not a man who is taking advantage he could quite easily have done that but she was special to him he fell in love with her beauty not her age, the other thing the whip game is NOT a racist thing ( don’t know where you get that idea from ? Weird) it’s a skating game where you whip the end person off a line of people he wouldn’t let ladies play because it was a tough game & people could get hurt. You can’t judge someone by watching one film & reading one book I am 56 I’ve been reading, watching & researching Elvis since I was a teenager and I love the man he had his faults who hasn’t! He was human but he was no sexual predator or weirdo. After all said & done Elvis didn’t have full sex with her until they were married when she was 21 he thought she was a virgin he respected that but whether she actually was is debatable (read child bride! ) And exactly what is wrong with him spending his money!! He shared his wealth with everyone around him, with countless charities & even with strangers he had a good heart, his friend Jerry schilling put it best by saying with all his money & fame & all the trappings he just chose to be a decent human being. Read some more books before you trash such a lovely man oh & by the way the colonel WAS a heartless man who screwed Elvis for every penny he could get read some books on him too !
curry grand is the one who set up their meeting arrangement. back then the kids were listening to elvis presley and he knew that she probably like elvis. according to priscilla she was not that fanatic about him but she didnt mind to see him. yes she wore a sailor outfit when she met elvis he had a red sweater and tan pants some of the people that elvis had around there said when he saw priscilla he jumped up like he sat on some fire he asked her age she said 14 he said your just a baby... there was another lady elvis was seeing anita wood he dated her for 5 yrs and elvis wanted to marry her she met his parents and gladys told elvis dont let this one go but as soon as he went to the Army is when he liked priscilla he was seeing her while he was stationed there and ask curry bring her back again she had to go home severel times she went and according to curry grant she did have sex with elvis but he pulled out some say dry hump he didnt want her pregnant... priscilla was also dating other boys her age in germany once her parents found out about their relationship they wanted her to stay with elvis and her mother chased the other boys away she was saving priscilla for elvis isnt that sad? yes! so elvis did have sex with her priscilla told mike stone she and elvis made love many times upstairs while in bad Nauheim Germany when elvis goes back to the states he stops talking to her for 2 yrs and still dating anita who he left in graceland while he was away in military. one day anita over heard elvis talking to his cousins or friends and said he could not decide to be with anita heard it and was hurt by it and told elvis i heard everything you said and i will make that decision for you i am leaving and elvis followed her and told her that priscilla meant nothing to him that she was just a fan and a kid he shoved money in her purse and she threw it out she said she was crying and so confused about everything and elvis said dont tell no one about priscilla or he would get in trouble and anita never said anything bad about him. her brother picked her up vernon was crying too and elvis told her you will be back and she said that the last time she ever been to graceland she ended up marrying football star and had kids go read child bride and baby lets play house very good books!!
i read this whole comment hahaha my god. it’s believable that they messed around while in germany, i definitely believe that. i feel like priscilla was covering up some of what they did there, because “hanging out” for hours at night in a bedroom isn’t what friends of the opposite sex do. this was interesting. i’ll check out childs bride and let’s play house. thank you!
Why would anyone wont to read this book is beyond me if you love someone you dont do this to them when he is not here to defend himself self against all these books and much what is in them is ear say at best.
Exactly. Princess Plastic Face has lived off of Elvis since the Stone Age and we now have to hear how she was groomed and oppressed. Priscilla was light years ahead of Elvis in maturity and she used his devastation over Glady's death to get her hooks into him. When he came back home in 1960, he should have refused her tons and calls and tons of letters from the poor little girl who was his prisoner and couldn't get free.
Cool to find another booktuber obsessed with the movie! I actually made a video where I read books like and about Elvis! This is one of the books I read and it was a really interesting read. I also read "Me and a Guy Named Elvis" by one of his closest friends. Would also recommend Elvis Presley: The Searcher, it's a documentary that I really enjoyed.
Thanks, for this HONEST review!! There’s too many in the ‘Elvis Community’ that’s whitewashing his relationship (especially, the early parts) with Priscilla. I don’t think you should feel the need to “plea” to Elvis’ fans “not to come after” you, when you’ve done nothing wrong! If they can’t handle reality..., that’s their problem, NOT yours. I’m a HUGE fan of Elvis’ too. However, I recognize his flaws, as well as his strengths. Frankly, I let the man be a Human Being first..., a celebrity/“The King of Rock & Roll” second. The majority of Elvis’ hardcore fan base are only interested in the “image.” And, as Elvis himself once stated, “It’s hard to live up to an image.”
We don't know the reality and I wouldn't trust anyone who has written a book about Elvis to tell the truth. The true friends of Elvis would have kept quiet about his private life.
@@user-golden-rhapsody5915 You may not be whitewashing Elvis’ relationship with Priscilla. However, there are many (as I’ve stated before) that are. Needless to say… I’m stating the “facts,” too.
Where’s Elvis’ story. ? Read Child Bride, than read how Priscilla Sued Currie Grant to not reveal anymore of her so called snow while reputation. You really need to know how money Elvis’s was the appeal for her and her parents. She has never truly loved Elvis or said anything good about him. She is truly a piece of work .
You should read the book by June Juanito, Elvis: In the Twilight of Memory. It really gives June’s perspective of him, and it’s probably one of the most sweetest relationships he ever had!
I just read it too…she has said there’s more but she only put out what she felt she could…lot of it she’s kept to herself. My mom got married at 20 in the late 60s so it was definitely common. Met her husband as a teen. I’m surprised people are shocked about it…. 20s was considered old to be married lol I wldnt but we live in different times now. And after readjn* the book my heart fell in and out a few times. But I wldnt go as far as to go into the grooming thing only because none of it was known back then…times have changed, and also …if u look at the story in a different perspective ( I’m 46) so maybe because I’m older I see it differently,…yes he was a bit messed up…but look at it like ….how it was aligned that they met each other….during a hard time in his life…only American girl he cld relate with in Germany ….I felt almost in a way his mom sent her to him…( I’m very spiritual) and believe in how the universe works….the sad thing is….he changed after his mother died….he had no real guidance …. Lisa owns Graceland …but her mom is who has been working closely to keep it going , Lisa wasn’t in any shape to to do it on her own ,as she was going thru her own turmoils ….but again remember the times….things were very different ….but I’m glad she finally realized that she cldnt be with him because of his absence …..she said she was grateful for him teaching her so much….aside from things he’s done to her ….all In all I truly think they loved each other….Because he loved her to the end. Read Linda Thomason’s book….lol you’ll be like oh boy.
It's very interesting that she came out with that book 8 years after his passing but according to her they were great friends after their divorce I am not going to say how a victim should act ever but i do think it's strange how you never hear her speak bad about him now after writing that book so many years ago.
Yes...she changed her versions so many times. Only recently she admited in a interview they were better not married. And this is the truth, since Elvis had pressures to do it at that time.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 no I've not considered that. But I will say. I'm not brushing it off. It was a half a century ago and if it is true, she seems to have moved forward from in a healthy manner
@@jacobmansfield9397 She keeps treating him as a bank account and keeps using him as a scapegoat to hide her sick personality. Do you still think she has moved on?
dont take this book to serious,it was writen at a time when she hold a grudge about elvis not leaving her anything when he died, after she got older she has nothing but good to say about elvis, she has even said when she was young she keep asking elvis to sleep with her,but he refused because of her age. sure elvis had his faults like the rest of us,but that book makes it sound alot worse than it really was, alot of things she wrote in that book,i mean if most of that stuff was true, she wouldnt do all she does to keep his memory alive, and talks about him with love and loving memories.she dont even want more books published anymore, that says something, because she has also been very honest talking about both his good sides and bad sides, like drugs etc.
i guess it just shocked me so much because i went into the book thinking it was going to be a “happy” love story (i knew about the drug stuff but idk i just wasn’t prepared for everything else 😅)
@@LochsLibrary thanks for your review! it is quite a hectic book. They definitely had a loving yet complicated relationship. It’s just hard to tell now what’s truthful and what’s not as Priscilla has retracted in later years some of the bad things Elvis supposedly did and also said she’s “overstated”. If you’re looking for a good documentary to do more with Elvis’s personal life then I’d recommend “Elvis by the Presley’s” on UA-cam!
She needed a distraction to keep stealing money from Elvis, scare away some people that were threatening to unmask her, and keep treating Lisa Marie like an emergency meal ticket.
Elvis was 24 years old. It's 10 years age difference..To understand him is to understand his upbringing. His Mother baby him to her own death. Both Gladys and Vernon could have a bad temper Even if he was 24 he was like a teenager in alot of way. This doesn't excuse his behaviour and mindset, but explains how his mind operated .Elvis was a complex soul. One thing i am sure Elvis really loved and cared for Pricilla in his own weird way. Just my take on it. 🙂
I became an Elvis fan 35 years ago - in 1987 - when I was 8 years old. The next spring I caught the chicken pox (I have a point here, stay with me 😂) and my only request when my parents asked me what I wanted that would make me feel better was a copy of “Elvis and Me.” This was about 2 months after the mini-series aired, which I’d watched a ton already since my dad videotaped it for me. I went on to read the book dozens and dozens of times in life but probably not within the last 20 or so years. Elvis remained my ultimate hero. I stumbled upon the new uploaded audiobook here on UA-cam and began listening. Slowly but surely my cringing began and my mind continued to explode. As an adult I was able to process the words more closely and infer the true gist of the situation. I wanted to hug the middle school girls that I teach and hide them away from anyone that could hurt them like this. I was so excited that the new movie brought Elvis back until listening to this book after having lived life. I’m afraid all this new fandom will die if the upcoming “Priscilla” movie isn’t handled carefully - which is unfortunate but in this case, the truth actually hurts. Thanks for a great review! 🎶 💔
GUYS there is a NEW BOOK coming out its by Priscilla FIRST boyfriend MICHAEL talks about Elvis and Priscilla divorce Michael and Priscilla pick up their love in TEXAS after Priscilla meet him in TEXAS she told him Elvis was abusive toward her we cant wait for Michael book
I read this book years ago and saw the mini series on it. It was good. Compare this to the Priscilla movie coming out. From the book I remember the lasagne incident and overall I did not get a good view of Elvis. I remember her ? tennis instructor? Maybe it was a Karate instructor. I can't remember as it was a long time ago that I read it. Pricilla wrote Elvis forced her to have sex in their marriage.. I just briefly saw an interview of her with Pier Morgan and she seemed way different in how she spoke of him. Weird.
You need to read child bride and the colonel. Do not believe everything you read. There is always two sides of a story and she has since denied a lot of it.
It's very interesting what kind of person Elvis was. From all stuff i watched i saw many opinions and like he had many faces. Would be interesting if some psychology specialist would make review and would make his portrait.
Elvis did not do anything inappropriate with Priscilla. She pursued him. Begged and blackmailed her parents to let her go and live in Graceland. She was 18 when she went to Graceland her mother and father arranged for her to go to Graceland. She was over . Please guys . Her dad made a pledge with Elvis to agree to marry Priscilla. Elvis paid for her to go to the best school. He paid for singing classes, ballet classes, karate classes. Elvis encouraged her to grow and get a wonderful career. Elvis actually did not want to be with her. The parents pushed it
He was roped into a marriage because the parents pushed it. He suddenly found himself roped into a marriage. The parents asked Elvis to promise Priscilla. They sold p Priscilla . They used priscillas age as a condition for marriage. She was his fiancee
Elvis was 24 and Priscilla was 14 when they met. He knew exactly what he was doing and the dangers of the public finding out because he had just watched Jerry Lee Lewis get cancelled for marrying his 13 year old cousin (or 2nd cousin). Elvis groomed, cheated, gaslit, controlled every aspect of Priscilla. Good job calling it out
Just finished the book and came across your review when I was searching for more on her. I think she's so fascinating. I heard the audio that she reads and you can hear alot of emotion. She loved and has alot of love for Elvis. I would say it was a complicated relationship. She was def groomed. It may have been different times and accepted but it dosent make it right. He was an adult immature or not he was a man and she was a child. I also don't think Elvis was evil but he was under alot of everything, stress, drugs, pressure. Dosen't excuse his behavior, the way he treated her sounds similar to the way alot of women were treated at the time. However, not all was wrong with him, he sounds like he was kind and generous as well. Elvis fans are very dedicated I see some very intresting comments. I do want to know more about her life after Elvis. Did she finally find herself? I feel like a part of her died that day too. She carries a bit of sadness in her
i completely agree with everything you said! and yea some of the comments are a bit cringe tbh i don’t even read half of them anymore because they all say the same thing. “Priscilla is all about the money” 🤡😂 i love her!! she’s kept his legacy alive in many ways. loved this book
I read Priscilla's book when it came out. As a fan since I was nothing but a baby of about 4 years old I have read anything I could get my hands on and watched all kinds of videos and interviews. My conclusion is that Elvis did whatever he wanted to do and if he really had not have wanted to marry Priscilla he wouldn't have.
They were not ice skating lol. The guys would play that game after Elvis rented the roller skating ring. Elvis did not want anyone to get hurt. He didn’t have Priscilla even play. He was a tough guy. They had a doctor there in case anyone got hurt.
I haven’t read the book but I’ve picked up on this vibe in all the videos I’ve watched since watching the movie. It is disappointing but I still want to learn more. I need to get my hands on that book. I’m also interested in his faith journey. It seems contradictory to the way he treated Priscilla and all the women in his life. But, hey, not to worry about your opinion. You are just reporting what you learned in the book.
yes i’m still wanting to read more about his life i find it so intriguing! when he goes through his spiritual journey it was interesting because all his friends thought he was having a mental breakdown but they were all too scared to say anything 😂 this book does talk about his “metaphysical” obsession. he was something else. 😅
@@LochsLibrary There is a book called " If I can dream: Elvis' own story " by Larry Geller, . Larry was Elvis' long time friend who introduced him to a lot of that spiritual stuff, and Elvis confided in him a lot. Anyway, this book provides yet a different look into who Elvis was. Everybody wrote a book on Elvis, some with good intentions, some with obvious intent just to slander and trash the man, and some others just to make a buck or two, or for the prestige of saying "I knew him best". So trying to figure out what's true and what is not is almost impossible, a real head spinner. So many stories, so many perspectives and point of views, so many books......too bad we'll never hear directly from the man who's been the subject, in life and in death. of so much talk and gossips.
@@TheEccho i’ll check it out, thank you. yea i remember larry, his spiritual hair stylist that became a close friend. but yes so many books and documentaries and hard to tell what’s the truth and what isn’t. head spinner is right. 😂
"Elvis and me"+Elvis movie = the best way to have a lot of fake informations about Elvis. If there was a manipulator in this couple, it was certainly not Elvis. About the 14 stuff, Elvis' steady girlfriend until Priscilla was almost 18, was Anita Wood (her daughter wrote Anita and Elvis, a book about a woman who really loved Elvis). "Elvis and me" is not what Elvis did or said, it's what his ex wife wrote; such a huge difference! Bill E. Burke, Susan Doll wrote very good books about Elvis for those who really wanna know who Elvis really was.
I'm reading the book and wow, there's so many things I just want to talk. I didnt ended my reading but considering the time back then I feel like Priscila was leaving her fanfic watppad moment and Elvis creating his perfect human doll. Sometimes makes me so ???? Because at the same time he describe him in a kind way, he makes some things so wrong when we think she was a kid that let me confuse. Right now I'm reading the part where she's still 17 so things didnt get harsh yet. I kind ended up laughing in a nervous way about the fact that he gave her pills like it was a normal thing, whatever. I think that in his head these pills are okay, he probably thought "Well, if is good for me is good for my baby doll". I think Elvis kind loved Priscila but in a way different and sexism way, I wish I could say an different word but I dont know to translate this world in english, is "machista" the world btw. And I loved the video, Ill be back soon because I think this is the only place and person I could share my thoughts
yes it is wild!!! him treating her like she was a doll was sooooo weird 😳 and it was almost like she was hesitant to write some of the stuff (like when you get to the pillow fight scene... i wanted to laugh at that scene because i thought they were having a cute moment but then it turns dark and i was like OMG). i do think he loved her but not in a healthy way. i dont think he ever intentionally harmed her (like with the pills) but yea still harmed her at the end of the day--seems like he didnt have the brains to know you shouldnt give substances like that to young people unless they are prescribed. like you said, he thought to himself "if they help me they must be "good" for her too" cant wait to hear your thoughts once you finish!!
Being Married in your young 20’s is hard. My Husband is 5 years older than me. And I’m sure it was hard but they did wait until she was almost 18 before she moved to Graceland! And she was almost 22 when they Got Married.
agree! i got married in early twenties & my husband is 6 years older than me. been married six years now, it’s like a walk in jurassic park at times. 😂😂😂 🦕🦖🦕🦖
I am saying living with presley family in general and elvis in particular What kind if parents push their underage girl to be with a 24 year.old soldier?
Thanks for this great book review. It was really honest. I just read this book and I didn't enjoy the read. I read it all in 4 hours flat. I am now reading Child bride. Have you read that? I'd love to see a review on that book so far it is pretty good
child bride is on my tbr for sure, please let me know if you enjoy it more than Elvis and Me! i did enjoy elvis and me but it was painful to read and i just wasn’t expecting it to get so dark at times😅
@@LochsLibrary Oh boy....,I don't think you're going to find "Child Bride" any less dark. But it will make obvious to you, since you already read" Elvis and me" that many of those books are a lot of she said, he said, and they said, because you will find that this book gives you a different image of Priscilla, her parent, and certain events. In short, if you intent on diving into different Elvis books, written by so many different people, each one of them knowing the "real truth", well then get ready for a wild ride.
@@LochsLibrary she has changed her stories so many times I don't believe a damn thing she says anymore. It's all about dead presidents now. She should write a book on how to be a GOLD DIGGER
Your a newcomer to Elvis he’s not here to defend himself people just love to bring him down so you went by the baz movie you know that had a lot of lies in it just like this book and she is his ex wife Elvis wanted her to drop the Presley name which she did but could get nowhere without it so after he died took the Presley name back
do you have any books about elvis that you would recommend for me to read? i would love to read more about him to be honest. this was my first elvis biography so yes, you’re right, with the exception of knowing his music, i’m definitely new to this world of elvis. 😁
Even a newcomer should be respectful and mature enough to not judge history decades ago with the facts of today. No artist ever claimed perfection on stage, in their movies, or other life aspects! But perhaps people judging them are flawless...
yes it makes perfect sense, breaks my heart every.single.time. and while you are 100% correct about how this was all sorts of wrong, but then I remember and imagine myself with THE Elvis Presley-totally would have fallen for it not gonna lie......He was a very flawed person but still an incredibly beautiful sould - i guess is one way I would describe it. I consider Elvis one of my spirit guides too
I don't plan on watching the Priscilla movie coming out in Oct. Another way to make herself look good. She knew going into the marriage Elvis's be world..She was a fool if she thought she could change things. She knew Elvis could not be tied down to one woman marriage or not. Did she really think she could have changed Elvis?
It is all very true Elvis never made love to hear because she was two young also he refused to make love to her when Lisa Marie was born you can't marry a god and relax Elvis should never got married at all
Elvis did not "manipulate, exploit, or abuse Priscilla. Nonsense. So he spent thousands of dollars on clothes for her and made suggestions about her hair and makeup. So what? I think Elvis thought of that as loving Priscilla. She never said he forced her. By the way. she STOPPED dressing the way he liked her shortly after Lisa Marie was born. She likes to make people think that he did this all through the marriage. That was also the time when she had her first affair, and went around saying, "this is the year I came out!" She more or less declared her independence from Elvis will as soon as she had him married with a baby.
I ended up reading and like you said, the end is so hard because you followed all the beggining of her life and Elvis death was like killing old Priscila too, the Priscila we followed in the book. I wish someone could love me the way Priscila loved Elvis. Shes a wonderful person and I truly don't care if she lied in some way, I feel like this book was written in a respectful way even though mens in that time were really rude and see us women as objects just like Elvis saw Priscila like an gold special object. I'm totally sad because now I wish I could have another book of her life because I loved to follow her steps and now that she was free to be who she was without being so much into Elvis the book ended.
i feel the same. if anything i think she held back from being more blunt about what happened, i do think she was respectful as she could have been but at the end of the day the truth hurts. if she is lying, like some people claim, that’s unfortunate but what would she have gained from it, she was already famous by that point so it’s not like she needed attention or money
@@LochsLibrary exactly, even the way she told in the book about the rape was in a kind way that made me so mad about people telling bad things about her. The only reason we still have movies about Elvis, has house still open and turned into a museum was because of her love. I wish people would disrespect me this way. This book got me so surprise in so many ways, but now I'm laughing because of all the abuse, the part that got me must shocked was suddenly Priscila training with Chuck Norris, this was so so random

The bottom line was the parents. That's it. No excuses. That's all to be said. he's back in the US. Ok. WHERE IN THE HELL ARE the PARENTS. Priscilla aside. Elvis aside. It's the parents!
Exactly...you can't send your daughter in another country to live with a rockstar at that age. And I don't believe in her versione that they were contrary. They well knew what they were doing and they got what they wanted. Too bad Elvis got trapped with his hands! Then sure, he wasn't perfect and his style of lifeIt didn't fit very well with marriage and a family.
Ir was a different time .....She and her parents chose this opportunity of a lifetime. According to Priscilla they never had intercourse until they were married. Only her and Elvis know if this is really true. I believe he never really wanted to get married but he made a promise to her family and the rest is history.
It was perfectly normal back then for girls to marry before 18. Look at the norm now, women are getting married in their mid to late 30s. Twenty years ago, women were expected to be married in their 20s for fear of being put on the shelf. My takeaway is that the marrying age for women is getting latter.
Elvis was never arrested for his stage act. That is one of a number of inaccuracies within the movie/ It basically was a sham. Yes, Priscilla was only 14 when she managed to meet Elvis. Yes, he saw her many times during the remaining months of his tour of duty in Germany. Once Elvis return to the States, their only contact for the next two years was over the phone. Priscilla would eventually persade her parents to allow her to move to Graceland and live with Elvis' father and his step-mother when Priscilla was 16. Elvis never groomed Priscilla as everyone is describing from the age of 14. Certainly when she moved in at age 16, he told her the way that he liked women to dress and the type of hair style he liked. And Priscilla then dressed in that manner. Priscilla didn't have to return Elvis' calls or talk to him if she hadn't wanted to while she was still in Germany and he'd returned to the States. She certainly continued making great efforts to be allowed to go and live with Elvis over the following two years. She was obsessed with Elvis, even before they met. She was a big Elvis fan and took the time to find out where he was living. She knew those who were able to arrange a meeting with Elvis and she made the approach in order to meet Elvis. Priscilla wasn't the one who was approached and asked if she'd like to meet Elvis, she did the initial chasing according to sources who were there at the time. Then again, so much water has passed under the bridge it is impossible to tell who is telling the truth. Even Priscilla has changed her story so many times, each more sensational than the last. If you want to believe her book, do so, if you want to believe the film based on her book do so. Both though, tell a different story. According to Priscilla when speaking with Piers Morgan, agreed that she had never said a bad word about Elvis. yet, there are many interviews in which she does just that. Priscilla is all about the money and always has been. She holds talks through which those who want to pay to hear her speak about Elvis can attend. And what she tells is sensational and intermate. Did she really love Elvis, she states that she still does. He's the love of her life, yet she tells all. That's not the sound of true love, its the sound of the cash register. Just look at all the UA-cam video titles referring to Priscilla talking about Elvis. Priscilla reveals, Priscilla tells all, Priscilla opens up etc. Priscilla thinks of only one person, herself, she is all about the money. Don't be fooled by her, I'm little miss pure and innocent act. TCE
Rubbish video. Haven’t you got better things to do than telling people these NONSENSE stories about a man who cannot defend himself. This book is one sided, so you should NOT believe everything she writes. I have no problem with Elvis Presley, he did NOTHING wrong.

READ CHILD BRIDE AND BABY LETS PLAY HOUSE
I wouldn't take too much notice about what Priscilla has put in her book. Her stories about Elvis change all the time.
Would you say every 10 minutes or once an hour?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with how things were in the 50's and with Elvis. The South in the 50's was a different world.
well, the thing is that we will never know what's going on there. We hear many stories and that's it, the rest we can just make fantasies. Never loose head about somebody you don't know personally
Have you read “child bride”? Very interesting take on some of the subjects in this book
Priscilla was actually one month shy of 22 years old when Elvis married her! She was definitely NOT a child!
Yes, that was a great mini series!

The review of the book was not very nice on Elvis
Everyone has their faults, Elvis had his like everyone does. But our bad habits are not written about in a book for all the world to see
Pls give Elvis the respect he deserves
He is only human.
He didn’t kept contacting her, she kept HARASSING him. Read Childbride by Suzanne Finstad, you’ll see who the real Priscilla Beaulieu is.
When I was in my early teens I remember having crushes on adult male celebrities and not even thinking about how big the age gap was. Looking back I cringe. Elvis was also said to be pretty immature so maybe at first she didn't notice the age gap so much... ❤🎼
hehe yesss it’s totally normal to have crushes on older men growing up!! i was the same way xD it’s only weird if they reciprocate 👀😂
Her boutique was not a success , she found out without the name
Presley, she bombed!
she did not open her boutique alone, and it was the same about Graceland, she's taking credit (and money) from other qualified ones' work.
Like you said, it’s her side of the story
Priscilla is a born again liar the book is full of crap Willmott but it Priscilla will do anything for money no interest in her it's a one sided piece of crap
@@dsoule4902 Yes Priscilla did abuse Elvis by cheating on him first with her dance instructor just a year after she married him and then with Mike Stone who she left Elvis for. According to her book Elvis and Me she had no evidence Elvis was unfaithful during their marriage.
@@ruthbashford3176 I love Elvis. Singin's not his Work. It's just his job RIP Lisa.
And, I don't feel like you're attacking him but, I do hope you read or watch some some more documentaries about him & I think you'll find, like most of us fans he has many more redeeming qualities than negative ones.
do you have any documentaries you recommend? i’ve watched a few but one of them i couldn’t even finish it was so poorly done
but yea definitely people were weird as hell back in the day. really glad we came to our senses and decided 18+ to be the norm (with *some* states being 17+)
i do think it’s important to address the issues but yea we can move past it and admire what he accomplished for sure. i’m new to the world of elvis so this is all new for me but i’m sure for so many of his fans this is all old news. 😅 but when i see some of his fans completely deny his flaws i’m like uhhhh 👀 admitting he had these issues doesn’t keep us from loving his music and whatnot. but i get that some people really idolize him and it probably hurts them to admit he wasn’t perfect
appreciate your comment tho. i do hope i didn’t come off as attacking him, but the book surprised me so much i was kinda.. flabbergasted 😂

Oh plz!
Priscilla moved in to Graceland in march 1963 . Two months before her 18th birthday.
PREACH
Me and a Guy Named Elvis is a really good book.
The bibliography is approx 30 pages long in each book.
thank you so much for the recommendations!!
Vernon was younger than Gladys
I remember watching Kurt R . , when he played Elvis in the movie . Does anyone remember THAT MOVIE ? 🤟🎤🎸🎵🎶💯😍🥋📺*****!!!!!

Yet she has benefited from his money and fame. I think in no ways Elvis was a Saint. But in a wider lense money talked.

Hello, if you are interested in more Elvis information..read Child Bride by Suzanne Finstad. It is very interesting.
THANK YOU.
We don't know the reality and I wouldn't trust anyone who has written a book about Elvis to tell the truth. The true friends of Elvis would have kept quiet about his private life.

Lisa owns Graceland …but her mom is who has been working closely to keep it going , Lisa wasn’t in any shape to to do it on her own ,as she was going thru her own turmoils ….but again remember the times….things were very different ….but I’m glad she finally realized that she cldnt be with him because of his absence …..she said she was grateful for him teaching her so much….aside from things he’s done to her ….all In all I truly think they loved each other….Because he loved her to the end.

alot of things she wrote in that book,i mean if most of that stuff was true, she wouldnt do all she does to keep his memory alive, and talks about him with love and loving memories.she dont even want more books published anymore, that says something, because she has also been very honest talking about both his good sides and bad sides, like drugs etc.
i guess it just shocked me so much because i went into the book thinking it was going to be a “happy” love story (i knew about the drug stuff but idk i just wasn’t prepared for everything else 😅)
Elvis Was the King of Treating Women Like Shit and Luring 14-Year-Olds into Bed
@@LochsLibrary thanks for your review! it is quite a hectic book. They definitely had a loving yet complicated relationship. It’s just hard to tell now what’s truthful and what’s not as Priscilla has retracted in later years some of the bad things Elvis supposedly did and also said she’s “overstated”. If you’re looking for a good documentary to do more with Elvis’s personal life then I’d recommend “Elvis by the Presley’s” on UA-cam!
@Mary Jane so she is a liar.
You used the newest movie photo of new Pricilla movie but did you see it it only came out sept 4
Apparently, the book wasn't considered scandalous enough so she and Sandra dramatized it
She needed a distraction to keep stealing money from Elvis, scare away some people that were threatening to unmask her, and keep treating Lisa Marie like an emergency meal ticket.
Weird.
Currently reading this book I love memoirs/autobiographies 😉
He liked 14 year olds and that is a problem.
literally cant get this book anywhere in the uk:(
This book is so good! I can’t stop reading it
You need to read child bride and the colonel. Do not believe everything you read. There is always two sides of a story and she has since denied a lot of it.
It's very interesting what kind of person Elvis was. From all stuff i watched i saw many opinions and like he had many faces. Would be interesting if some psychology specialist would make review and would make his portrait.
They need to make a portrait about Priscilla. They’ll tell you how sick she was.
Read Child Bride she was not innocent in this whole thing.
Exactly 😁 I always think that the truth is in the middle
Thank you! He died 4 years after their divorce and wanted to be back with her, she could not go to the light ceremony in Graceland for 30 years...
They sold p
Priscilla .
Good job calling it out
waaaait he was 24!?!? omg. why did i think he was 21. omg…… that’s means it was a TEN year age gap while she was just a kid
Please, if you truly interested in Elvis.. read Child Bride by Suzanne Finstad.
@@jenniferbrooks1178 they are not intersted in the art, just the gossip...
@@Verbsdescribeus all of your comments have been rude, i really don’t appreciate it.
@@LochsLibrary Could you please read Childbride by Suzanne Finstad and do a review on it? There’s the true story of what happened.
Elvis was 24 , not 21
Just finished the book and came across your review when I was searching for more on her.
Watch Elvis and me movie from 1988
I have seen this book for so long , now I will buy and read it
I read Priscilla's book when it came out. As a fan since I was nothing but a baby of about 4 years old I have read anything I could get my hands on and watched all kinds of videos and interviews. My conclusion is that Elvis did whatever he wanted to do and if he really had not have wanted to marry Priscilla he wouldn't have.
good point
Priscilla should be greatful to him..
She be nothing without him...
The mere proof is that she benefits from his name for over 50 years...
You should read "Elvis What happened?" book. You'll be shocked even more.
His money. Spent a lot. Very generous! Fantastic talent! Love his music!
🎶 💔
yes i’m still wanting to read more about his life i find it so intriguing! when he goes through his spiritual journey it was interesting because all his friends thought he was having a mental breakdown but they were all too scared to say anything 😂 this book does talk about his “metaphysical” obsession. he was something else.
Don’t get it twisted Elvis may have had his problems, but Colonel was evil
i mean yea, he fucked elvis over. never said he was innocent
Thank you, Ariana!
Should read Child Bride
i’ve added that one to my list!!
And I loved the video, Ill be back soon because I think this is the only place and person I could share my thoughts
yes it is wild!!! him treating her like she was a doll was sooooo weird 😳 and it was almost like she was hesitant to write some of the stuff (like when you get to the pillow fight scene... i wanted to laugh at that scene because i thought they were having a cute moment but then it turns dark and i was like OMG). i do think he loved her but not in a healthy way. i dont think he ever intentionally harmed her (like with the pills) but yea still harmed her at the end of the day--seems like he didnt have the brains to know you shouldnt give substances like that to young people unless they are prescribed. like you said, he thought to himself "if they help me they must be "good" for her too"
cant wait to hear your thoughts once you finish!!
You should read also "Child Bride" to know more about Priscilla and that relationship. Her only version is too limited
Elvis was not arrested for his dancing or performing. He was drafted...went into service and served his country. No she was not 100% honest
I am saying living with presley family in general and elvis in particular
What kind if parents push their underage girl to be with a 24 year.old soldier?
Don’t feel bad for Priscilla! She was in love & it was smart of her to stay until she was Married & had his baby. She’s all good
Your a newcomer to Elvis he’s not here to defend himself people just love to bring him down so you went by the baz movie you know that had a lot of lies in it just like this book and she is his ex wife Elvis wanted her to drop the Presley name which she did but could get nowhere without it so after he died took the Presley name back
do you have any books about elvis that you would recommend for me to read? i would love to read more about him to be honest. this was my first elvis biography so yes, you’re right, with the exception of knowing his music, i’m definitely new to this world of elvis. 😁
I would say last train to memphis is very good .
Even a newcomer should be respectful and mature enough to not judge history decades ago with the facts of today. No artist ever claimed perfection on stage, in their movies, or other life aspects! But perhaps people judging them are flawless...
Chapter 24 at the morgue is spooky and shocked me when I read it in the mexican Spanish translation of the book back to 1987 when I was 32 years old.
yes it makes perfect sense, breaks my heart every.single.time.
and while you are 100% correct about how this was all sorts of wrong, but then I remember and imagine myself with THE Elvis Presley-totally would have fallen for it not gonna lie......He was a very flawed person but still an incredibly beautiful sould - i guess is one way I would describe it. I consider Elvis one of my spirit guides too
hahaha i totally agree!!! i'd be swooning all over him. 😂😂
I enjoyed your review. You should do a part 2 of other stories within the book that standout
There is a lot of lies in that book even Priscilla said she made it u
@@victorianogueira5037 i don’t remember the part about the rape!? 😭 someone else said something about that and omg what part was that because i must have mis read or misunderstood it!
LOL yes when chuck showed up i was like !!!😂
@@LochsLibrary so, I read the book in Portuguese and in this translation Priscila told that after some show of Elvis in Las Vegas, she received a message from someone that Elvis wanted to talk with her. This part was in the end of the book. Priscila tell us that she thought it was strange this attitude from Elvis and when they met, she described "he made hard love to show me what a real men is". After that she felt really sad so I assumed it was rape but in the kindest way to write on the book.
@@victorianogueira5037 Omg i’m going to have to read the ending again because i totally missed that. :( that’s awful ugh
she definitely worded things in a way where it could be easily missed 😩
The bottom line was the parents. That's it. No excuses. That's all to be said. he's back in the US. Ok. WHERE IN THE HELL ARE the PARENTS. Priscilla aside. Elvis aside. It's the parents!
Exactly...you can't send your daughter in another country to live with a rockstar at that age. And I don't believe in her versione that they were contrary. They well knew what they were doing and they got what they wanted. Too bad Elvis got trapped with his hands! Then sure, he wasn't perfect and his style of lifeIt didn't fit very well with marriage and a family.
in those times marriages started at 16, stop judging history...
TCE
She was not 14 when they got together more like 17 before she left Germany she stayed in Germany tell she was few years older
Things are not same today. I am 67 and think about stuff we all thought was ok but today would be a crime. Elvis was not a saint he was a man.
