I think the editor told the truth that almost every “ journalist” understands. Journalists are not respected, and this is a piece of the reason. But it sure was honest, so I give her a lot of credit for that. I think she will make better decisions in the future. As will the reporter. I hope.

As a Torontonian I can promise you, nobody reasonable actually cares about what blogTO writes. It's consistently in the news for bullshit articles or statements. Any sane person that read that article (you can still go read it right now, amazingly it's still up) can see that it was a hit piece. idk how she can say what she said in this interview with a straight face while that article is still up for everyone to read. I'm from Ontario and I'm actually shocked that Dave would even take the time to acknowledge these losers when 99% of their "reporting" is just copy/pasting a post they found on reddit or facebook... It's like Canelo Alvarez inviting a heckler in the crowd to have a press conference with him. Dave doesn't even realize this is the highlight of her life because it's the first time anyone with a following has acknowledged their website as a real source of information. Say you get yourself a job interview with a major media company with a big pay raise and I am a "journalist" and I call that company before your interview and ask them how they feel about this "controversial" "journalist" whom some claim is racist, sexist etc. coming to interview for work at your company? Not gonna lie, critics have always been a fucking bad for any type of business. They provide nothing except a personal outlook on how they feel about something and can destroy how others perceive it because of their audience. I stopped reading critics before a movie or game for the most part, but with Dave's audience if he has a bad interaction they will review bomb the place as well putting other's livelihoods at place. Journalist and Journalism professor here. Her tactics are dirty as hell but that's what the majority of journalists like her are focusing on nowadays. I don't teach that kind of reporting; quite the opposite actually. But it's hard to combat that mentality overall. All in all, it's a shame that they took this avenue with him. If I was the editor of that blog, I would out an article that says "Portnoy Comes to Toronto - Here's the 5 Pizza Spots We Think He should hit", and then followed up with the potential of a collaboration promoting the Barstool Fund etc., taking him on a Pizza tour of the city. They could have gotten the same level of exposure without having the controversy. Hell, it would have put the blog on the map with Barstool fans. But a lot of journalists like her feed upon the drama and it's sad really. Glad the beef is over though.

However, “Journalistic due diligence” is not calling people who have never met the subject of the article to tell them about serious allegations made against him. In no way does that contribute to the content of the story. It’s passing premature judgement, based on what the Zeitgeist is leaning towards, and fanning the flames for views. Which she said. But don’t call it journalistic due diligence in one sentence and in the next breath concede hate clicks sell and that’s why you did it. You can’t eat your cake and have it too. The real shame is that this is what upcoming journalists believe to be journalistic integrity. Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal.

As a Torontonian I can promise you, nobody reasonable actually cares about what blogTO writes. It's consistently in the news for bullshit articles or statements. It's made a name for itself in profiting on the misplaced and misinformed anger of its readers. Any sane person that read that article (you can still go read it right now, amazingly it's still up) can see that it was a hit piece. idk how she can say what she said in this interview with a straight face while that article is still up for everyone to read. I guess that says a lot about society today, I guess she just assumes people won't just go read it themselves. Anyway, just know there are tons of fans in Toronto, and not everyone here is like the writer or editor of this article.

I'm actually kind of surprised she isn't a huge CEO of a mega corporation. Maybe she is too kind hearted or unhinged or some other bad trait as she seems like she is a problem solver on the biggest of scales
Journalist and Journalism professor here. Her tactics are dirty as hell but that's what the majority of journalists like her are focusing on nowadays. I don't teach that kind of reporting; quite the opposite actually. But it's hard to combat that mentality overall.
All in all, it's a shame that they took this avenue with him. If I was the editor of that blog, I would out an article that says "Portnoy Comes to Toronto - Here's the 5 Pizza Spots We Think He should hit", and then followed up with the potential of a collaboration promoting the Barstool Fund etc., taking him on a Pizza tour of the city. They could have gotten the same level of exposure without having the controversy. Hell, it would have put the blog on the map with Barstool fans.
But a lot of journalists like her feed upon the drama and it's sad really. Glad the beef is over though.

However, “Journalistic due diligence” is not calling people who have never met the subject of the article to tell them about serious allegations made against him. In no way does that contribute to the content of the story. It’s passing premature judgement, based on what the Zeitgeist is leaning towards, and fanning the flames for views. Which she said. But don’t call it journalistic due diligence in one sentence and in the next breath concede hate clicks sell and that’s why you did it. You can’t eat your cake and have it too.
The real shame is that this is what upcoming journalists believe to be journalistic integrity.
