what's up man. Not sure on the outreach, but we have sent out maybe 50 pairs of skis to people wanting to review objectively. I don't mind the criticism at all, as you can imagine, I have dealt with it for 40 years, the accuracy is a little suspect but not a big deal. The Elan supercarve was out before the I built the K2 Four, but it was sold more as a gimic and almost no skis in the US, its not accurate that they invented it either, as it bigger sidecut skis were built and tried in the 70s as well but failed. The roll I played was to convince K2 to build a ski that I designed in 1994 that would be a race ski, that ultimately did lead to the global shape ski adoption. So correct, I didn't invent them, but did play a big roll in why they became the norm in skiing. If you reach out again I'll get you a couple pairs to test. The keyhole tech is real, the difference between what Peak is doing and other companies that are cutting metal in their skis is that they aren't getting any real benefit from it because it doesn't work with the dramatic sidecuts they are using and it has to fit in to a pretty specific flex pattern and early rise/rocker profile. I'm excited for the redemption video after you ski on them as we have done very well against the skis you listed off as ones you liked. Last, Bomber, they were not good skis and the reason I left the company is because I had no say in the design and the price point was way to high; $2300, we sold about 5000 the first year so there are lots of unpaid people out there skiing on them. I don't know if you have the same feelings for Chris Davenport or Michelle Parker as you do about me, but neither of them will ski on skis they don't think are better than anything else they can find, and they are on Peak.

This was a really cool response.
Would be happy to be proven wrong, and happy to give the skis a fair test and review.
I imagine the editing in the ad just compressed the story down and that's where some of the gaps came from. So I appreciate the full story, I love learning about this kind of stuff.
I will reach out to you, but you can also feel free to email me directly at ricketyskireviews@gmail.com
      Cheers from Idaho.

Very nice response. I'm in Utah skiing Alta & Snowbird. Been waiting to see the first skier with a pair of Peak Ski's. He was on what looked like the first generation. I always ask in person about ski equipment. He said he was impressed with the effort less ability to turn (keyhole)?
I want the new 78 carver, this is the ski that would fit my ability. I wish I could demo a pair.
I have been a Rossignol user for 40 years. I believe in the tech of Peak. I will some how have a pair. It would be the last ski I own. Bode: Thanks, for changing the sport.

I asked Ski Essentials if they will review Peak skis. And this is there honest reply: We are not a Peak dealer, they are direct to consumer, so other than some minor analytics boost we'll get on our YT channel, there's not a huge benefit for us to review these skis. From what I can tell, they look perfectly wonderful and well-crafted!

I've got a pair of the 98s in a 184 and the 110s in a 188, both super solid skis. The 98 is a very versatile grab it and go ski. The 110 is definitely a charging powder ski, not a jibby, smear the turn ski. It nukes through pretty much anything your legs can handle. Plus they've both survived a marginal snow season at Discover last year which is saying something about their durability. Especially on the backside. Also their customer service is some of the best I've ever dealt with. Just today I emailed them, I had a question about the 104 by Dave ski. They're having a 3 -day 60% off sale, I got a response within 10 minutes, on a Saturday. There's a good video and a couple interviews with Bode where he goes into real detail about his thinking and the evolution of the keyhole technology from back in his race day's. Might want to check them out.

I have a pair of the 88s and i really like them. Im an intermediate skiier though so my opinion isnt rooted in much experience with other brands. I have a pair of Faction candides that i also love if that tell you anything about the type of ski i enjoy skiing. The Peaks feel really solid going through all quality of snow and theyre super nimble in the bumbs. They really hold a good edge while carving too. I only had them for a month at the end of last season so i cant speak to their durability but my initial impressions were very high. I cant wait to take them out again in a few weeks when the mountain opens up. Hopefully youll be able to try a pair out soon, if youre ever at Big Sky this year hit me up ill let you try mine.

I worked in the ski industry for 40 years and definitely have some opinions based on my experience. I agree with some of of your criticism of Peak skis and direct to consumer brands in general. However as one other person posted you should buy them, try them , then send them back for a refund because you claim that you are a ski reviewer who has a UA-cam channel. I get that being the negative guy is your thing but don’t criticize something until you actually try it yourself.

    • @RicketySkiReviews

This isn't a ski review, this is me being critical of the weird messaging around marketing.
I may try the skis but I'm concerned about whether or not I would actually get my money back after mounting them, and honestly I may not, there are a ton of other brands that people really want to know about and Peak Skis isn't a big priority. But I think all of my concerns are legitimate and if given the opportunity I will definitely review these.
There are a ton of red flags here that I think are worth talking about.

I bought a pair of 98 SC 184’s last year. Loved them so much, added a set of the 104 184’s this season. Both allow me to ski with more confidence and bite in my turns than anything else I’ve had. I’m an intermediate but now do double/triple blacks at Big Sky and Bridger that I could never do before. Can’t say why, they are just more stable and give better feedback than anything else I’ve been on.

Blister seems legit. Bode, if your crack engineering background is how Elan got their design ideas for the SCX let's see you don those 1/2 snowboards and rip it. 1090$. That's the rip. True story Elliott... back in the mid 90's, I was working at the Loaf one year when Bode got on a lift my boss was working at. He gave him a hard time about showing his pass since he was in his CVA garb-- not a race bib, just his pants with those black shorts over them. My boss wouldn't let him on w/o his pass so he said "Do you know who I am? I could have your job." My boss answered "Sure, you'd have less gear but a free pass you could display."

I have peaks got them during one of their major discount sales last season at one point they did a buy one pair get a second free, and a at another time there was a 50% off sale. I have the 88s good all around ski definitely built more like a race ski than a pow board as you will know were your edges are and they are stable at speed. I believe the skis last season were built in the Elan factory and the pattern is from one of Elan's skis but the laminate design and material choices are all developed by peak. SkiTalk has several threads on users reviews of Peak Skis if your interested. They seem to be decent skis in general. Lot's of Bode hype train for sure. You make a good point that key hole tech. is essentially the same as Y shaped metal or other non-full metal sheets in what it is trying to accomplish. I felt the same way. Not revolutionary at all. Lastly, you are probably correct about Peak avoiding you. Why don't you buy a pair on your CC, mount/ski them for a couple of weeks, and then send them back for full refund. That is what they "promote" as the benefit of DTC sales and what they say to do if you want to "demo" their skis. Take them up on it if your CC can handle the transaction. BTW, about 2/3 way through their first season they offered a 2 skis for the price of one clearance. That sure reduced their ski price as long as you wanted 2 pairs, or had a buddy to split them with.

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  9 місяців тому

Interesting! I may try to do that, I'm just worried they won't take the return with mounting holes, and honestly there are so many other skis that people have requested it's not super high on my priority list. I may see if I can find a demo shop or find them at a demo event.
