    Ah yes. It's not a Filipino festivity without lumpia. Everytime there is a family prayer and gathering, food is always there.
    Yesterday was the Feast of Santo Niño, the patron of our town. My family prepared a feast for everyone who wants to come inside our home and eat.
    No wonder our faith is centered in food. It brings everyone together. A communion we unconciously practice.

    My earlier comment seems to have been removed, but essentially it was merely to state in detail that a lot of what is mentioned here is from popular "Jesus diet" books, but is not necessarily historically accurate. Jesus did not have a Whole Foods grocery store, so he likely ate lentils and leeks stew with barley bread on a daily basis. Not "because he was poor" but because all the people of Judea did not have the type of agricultural macroeconomy we enjoy today, and everyone would have eaten what they had locally. Fish would have been a treat and lamb would have been a special occasion, because it was better to sell that stuff to the Romans or to the temple markets in Jerusalem.
    Anyway, it is an interesting topic, but I would advise most people listening to actually research these foods before just assuming Lebanese food is what Jesus ate 2000 years ago, before the Arabs and Turks came in.

    What a great subject!
    I would love it if you could do an episode on what it would have been like to live in the days that Jesus did! Did Women wear makeup?
    What were hairstyles like?
    What was daily life like?
    What did people do for entertainment?

    Can’t believe how quickly the conversation moved from the obvious plant-based references in Genesis to hunting and preparing meat meals. I was hoping the discussion would point this out. It is not until much later in human history in the Bible that the eating of animals is discussed. I love to eat meat, so don’t tag me as anti/meat. Just thought you guys would notice the fruit/vegetables vs animal diet in the early Bible days.

  • @margueritelangton6362
    @margueritelangton6362 2 роки тому +4

    Must admit I'm confused by the statement that there was no lamb at the Last Supper. At the first Passover a single animal could be shared by multiple families. It's quite possible that when the disciples were preparing their supper they obtained meat from the family which was hosting them. Jesus says specifically that He wanted to eat the Passover meal with them. Would it have BEEN a Passover meal at all without the lamb? ?? After all, the institution of the Eucharist and the sacrifice of the Cross took place AFTER the Passover supper was finished. Just asking.

      Check out this from Pope Benedict XVI www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/homilies/2007/documents/hf_ben-xvi_hom_20070405_coena-domini.html

    • @MrColinwith1L
      @MrColinwith1L 2 роки тому

      Jesus was the lamb of God, but they still would have eaten lamb if it was a passover meal. It would not fulfill the commandment to omit the lamb. Nowhere does the Bible say what Pope Benedict infers here from the timing in John’s gospel alone. In fact he wrote his exegesis on this with the disclaimer that reasonable scholars could disagree.
      But the other seder foods are likely diaspora additions, may have been even centuries after this era.

    • @AnimalApologist
      @AnimalApologist 2 роки тому

      What Pope Benedict says makes perfect sense to me. Out with the old, in with the new (covenant)--which is of much greater importance. Explains also why animal sacrifices stopped, something God never wanted (too many Scriptures to list).

    Oh, you guys have me rolling! I was raised without much, so can appreciate cow dung heat or walls. I enjoyed the food analogies and realities. I was a bit saddened by daily mass. I'm not sure if you are aware but so few mass times are offered. Even on Sunday just one time. Not family friendly. Not accommodating working class. Sinners are retired so confession at 9 am, during the week... At some point priests or bishops should choose to serve. This convenience stuff is old. In this age of communism, I would think you would want to reach the majority of the community!

    In Austria they call tomatoes "Paradeiser", which could be loosely translated into 'paradisians', but I think they took that name from Hungary and Serbia. Fig makes sense with the leaves they covered themselves with. Fig in German means 'Feige', turn that into an adjective and you get 'feige', but now it doesn't mean the fruit, but 'cowardly', just as the noun 'Feigheit' means 'cowardice'. As I strongly believe that 'In the beginning was the word...' and add to that the linguistic confusion as a result of the building of the Tower of Babel, I often think that so much truth is in our languages. Greetings from a Lutheran, who loves your shows.
