you must be hallucinating friend... Serj is one of the best singers alive plus he can manage his voice better than 8/10 singers alive atm... His voice is so epic that a numb skull like you could not even start to comprehend the capacity and the notes that his voice can hit.
Serj Tankian kinda holds back his "gentlemen" and "lively" side with System of a Down. I think it's due to System's fans, tons of drunken, drugged and insane dudes(just like Daron and Shavo :P). I see most of them hates this Serj's side. So he is indeed more happy solo.
he has a clear voice/style change when playing live with SOAD.
