Pal Jonson is a VERY and I mean VERY capable man, one of the better Defence Ministers in the EU and NATO. Good one to have in our corner when it comes to European security.
Pål Jonson is an ex Swedish coast jäger soldier in the Swedish army and that is one of the hardest millitary educations you can do in Sweden. compareable with American Navy seals so imo he is the best defence minister we had.

@@hansericsson7058Meh, It's more like amphibious Army rangers. Seals are more special forces. Regardless it's irrelevant to this job. What's important is his PHD Military Science degree at King's College London and subsequent work as army analyst.
@@stephenlauret132 Yes, you could volunteer to the tougher units. However I had friends who did kustjägare and came out of it 10kg fatter compared to when hey joined. It's vastly exaggerated how tough it is. Mine divers and Paratroop Ranger (fallskärmsjägare) were the only really tough ones (but not like seals). Today there are also smaller units that are on par with seals.

Nammo is setting up a new production line in Raufoss, planning a fivefold increase. Their factories in Finland, Sweden and Germany are ramped up, maybe the last two too.
And Denmark is reopening a closed ammunition plant.
They have been waiting for funding from goverments instead of investing themselves. A serious delayment.

Nammo in Sweden are switching out their old production machinery from the 80’s to a state of the art production line, thereby probably doubling production capacity, without having to build an entirely new factory. The upgrade will take place during the scheduled maintenance window this summer, I think.
The reason it has taken so long time is due to the Finnish-Norwegian co-owning Nammo with Norway has both a direct government stake and indirectly via Kongsberg, while Finland only through Partia.
Nammo is contracted to be 50-50 between our two states and to find out how Norway could ramp up substantial investment without disturbing the Partia took considerable time.
All in all more than a billion euros is put up for this, mostly by Norway. In addition half of that in added contracts for the production of 155mm.
To my knowledge roughly half for the main factory in Raufoss, Norway, I have no idea of the split between the other five factories for this production.
We better ramp up our security around these factories to avoid any interference by russian infiltrators (which we can assume have been embedded into our society for years, ready to be activated during a potential sharp situation with russia; and yes, the small 'r' is fully intentional :-).

I dont think so.They need F16 more because they can get hundreds of them and its not smart waist time and money in training and equip the airforce on 2 different planes with different systems.And most of all there simply isnt enough JAS made but there is thousands of F16 out there ,so instead of a handful Gripen its much better with hundreds of F16planes
@@donaldliden4545 the main problem with fighter crafts is always the maintenance and the capability of support staff, the main issue is that you need 20 guys to support the planes, combine this with massive banks of anti aircraft batteries it is extremely hard to counter, That is why russia dont have much in the air aswell
@@donaldliden4545 I agree with that , what I’m saying is the Gripen was designed for working in an environment where you don’t have an airport , the Swedes anticipated the Russians would destroy all airports and runways , so the built a fighter that does need a runway or radar to land , it can land on a dirt track .
Good interview off a knowledgeable defense minister conducted by an equally knowledgeable journalist. The only place it got a little unclear was about the Gripen, which can be seen as it happening a lot behind the scenes.

Thank you for your support of Ukraine Package: stepping up 155 mm caliber ammunition; replenishing ammunition and provided it to Ukraine; joining the Czech initiative, Nordic Plus Plus to coordinate procurement and joint procurement for bigger orders et al. But please, Defense Minister, literally travel to Ukraine and book a train to near the frontlines and brings some of those men who are behind you along with you. Leave these soldiers behind so they can help support Ukraine.
He has already been to Ukraine, last summer.

It’s a shame that other Western leaders have decided to hold their heads in the sand and decide not to realize how dangerous Russia is to the European Union and the United States. Your support, support of the Czech Republic, France, and the Nordic nations is especially critical since the Republican Party in my nation has turned its back on Ukraine, Democracy and the Free World. You will help Ukraine to prevail and reclaim their land.

Now when Sweden is in NATO ( as I have said numerous times before ) there is an opening for Sweden to be able to deliver some Gripen for Ukraine. The reason is simple, with the protection being a NATO member (also Article 5 as a deterrence ) and also the possibility of other NATO countries to aid Sweden with air support/ defense Sweden can deliver Gripen while new fighters are being built. This was the plan from start, Sweden was smart and invited Ukraine and Ukrainian pilots to Sweden to get familiarized and try out the Gripen.
This started in late 2022 and was first announced in early 2023.
Sadly the delay was all thanks to Turkey and Hungary that really tried hard to please Putin and get Swedish membership in NATO delayed for as long as they could.
Article 5 doesn't provide protection. It's not a shield, it's a promise.

Also to prove you wrong, NATO protect the Baltic countries, they aid them because they have no air force and hardly any army. It's basically every NATO country there in rotation.
Sure it's not specifically Article 5 because it only gets invoked if or when a NATO country gets attacked.
None the less being in NATO is a defense mechanism in itself. Sorry if you don't understand that but you should actually do a bit of research before just commenting on things you obviously have no clue about.

I think if we decided to train Ukrainian pilots and give Gripens to Ukraine we propably wouldnt go out with it untill the training is done. We didnt do that for any of the other systems we donated to ukraine.

Unfortunately, America has their boot on our throats with that one. The engines are American made. So it's completely up to them if we send it. Do not be too harsh on the government for that. I really hope America gets their shit together and continue helping Ukraine.

7:06 Saab Gripen fighters, I hope training will start soon and Ukraine will get them sooner than later. A new and modern airforce is very important for Ukraine. The Gripen don't exist in the huge numbers the F-16s do, but it is very built for the kind of defensive war Ukraine is fighting. As a Swede I think more aid and help are good but as usual, it's too little and too late. Europe, the West and all partners need and should without a problem be able to overproduce what Russia makes many times over. Ukraine should not be worried about lack of ammunition and should not need to take a lack of ammunition into account when planning its defence. It's a stupid problem that should not exist.
I heard they are shipping IKEA meatball cannons that the Ukrainians have to assemble on the front line.

Indeed, it was VERY wise decision 4 Sweeden, because NO matter how Sweeden has VERY strongly capable military, sooner or later Swedeen's manpower will out, but with NATO, 31 countries will come aid, so manpower or Russia no longer advantage (hit logistics, fuel, food, no longer advantage!!!). Look at US, we have long lists: F-15, variants, and even NEW F-15 variants like F-15EX the air-to-air killer, F-16, variants, F-18 variants, F22, F35, and in around 15 years from now 6th generation! Violance in self-defence is justified. And not siding with the victim of warcrimes, genocide and wars of aggression just shows that a person got rotten morality in my opinion.
