    Let's be honest I cried during the entire final episode, a tiny little part of me did want to see Brian and Justin get married and everything but we all knew it was not THEM. I think it would have felt wrong. They couldn't just get married and live in their big house happily ever after, that's just not them. And we loved that about them, we loved how unpredictable they were, how free, wild and passionate they were. I think the writers couldn't have chosen a better ending. It was beautifuly written and perfectly played, and it made sense.
    I am a straight girl, but I don't think I've ever been so affected by a show. QaF was not just that show about gay people having sex in public, it was a deep and meaningful representation of life, of love, of friendship, of family, of society, all of that combined in a perfectly structured story. I watched the 5 seasons in 2 weeks, I never got bored. This show made me feel so many emotions, it made me realize so much things about life and love. I just loved it. This show deserves so much more appreciation. And no matter if you're gay, lesbian, straight, transexual, bisexual, asexual or anything else, this show has so much to offer.

      I don't know. Part of me agrees with you, I really do. And that ending was so tragically beautiful. In a sort of Romeo and Juliet way, star-crossed lovers and all that. I binged on Netflix last month during the winter break. I have not seen that type of chemistry between two characters since when Harry met Sally (a relationship that took 10 years to happen... I thought it might be like that for Justin and Brian). This is the way I see it. Their relationship went through so much crap, so many hurdles, so much heartbreak and they overcame all that. It was unrealistic to me that they would let each other go at the end. Not after all that. And I was shocked too! All over a magazine review. Why the need to move immediately? It did not make sense. I agree though, marriage like that with all the fanfare was not them. But being together was what made them both happy. Brian and Justin complemented each other so well. Whenever they were not together they were out of balance. I think Brian was doing the same thing he did when he had cancer, pushing Justin away because he thought he was holding him back. He thought Justin needed to go and be famous to be happy. I think Brian failed to realize that Justin did not need to go to NY to be an artist, he was already an artist, and he could have kept being one in Pittsburgh. Through the show, I noticed there's one thing Justin really wanted, and that's a life with Brian. I was shocked when they did not stay together (then again they might have later... who knows?). I don't know. why would Justin go to NY alone? Why risk everything for just a review? In the end, I think he left because he thought Brian did not want him. The miscommunication of the decade! Do not get me wrong, I am all for a tragic ending, but in this case, I did not see the necessity of it. Going through all that for 5 years, to then be apart from each other. * Sighs* but then again I am ranting.

      I'm on season 3 (I'm still mourning Ethan Gold by the way - he was soooo hot damnit) Anyway, I don't know how I'm going to feel about it on the finale but I'm not a fan of the random sex with strangers all days of the week, in bathhouses, back houses and literally anywhere. I'm so shocked the community didn't completely perish from AIDS if they really lived like that.
      And it's not homophobic to point it out ok.

      Laura Devine I think Randy is an introvert too. I think Gale has a brilliant mind and has trouble articulating his thoughts and Randy in general is very articulate so that might be why Gale defers to him in these events.

      Randy is deffo an introvert. Those two are by far the most introverted of the cast. One of them has to take the lead when it's just the two of them and it just is usually Randy since he's more neurotic and quicker, and Gale will probably revert to saying something crazy and otherworldly.

    I am so glad that I found Queer as Folk in June 2024! The story of the gay community is so beautifully portrayed by a fabulous cast along with superb writing. I am now a 75 year old widowed grandmother who is so proud of my gay cousin, non binary sibkid transgender grandson and many gay friends. This excellent drama told all their stories with pride, honesty, and integrity. I learned so much about this community which was never even discussed when I was growing up. We need so much more to be shown like Queer As Folk, which told of the love that is so important in everyone's life. I have watched all the episodes on line and I wish they would have kept this excellent drama going, but my sincerest gratitude to all who were involved with Queer as Folks, kudos to you all!

    im a straight mom with a 13 yr old son. when he asked why i was watching this show, I told him because it was one of the best damn shows ive ever seen. we had a good conversation about seeing the lgbtq community as equals. I don't ever want my son to look down at someone for who they are. he admitted there was a boy at school that everyone teased for being gay, and felt bad for following the crowd. Now they're best friends. He said "i mean he wears glitter in his hair, but that's not everything i see when i look at him". I'm glad i got through to my son, but he wasn't the only one that wasn't aware of the issues the lgbtq community faced. I watched this to open my mind as well. And made my super straight fiance watch it with me. I think he was in to it more than I was! If you guys made a comeback on Netflix that would be awesome. just please have the original cast in there somewhere, otherwise it wouldnt be the same! love yas! -Debbie

    I saw QAF for the first time in 2002 with my first gay friend. Downloading every episode took ages (Showtime wasn't affordable for a couple of college students in Colombia) and sitting down to watch it was THE BEST PLAN. Jump to March 2024 and I reencounter with the show thanks to Paramount+. It took me time, but I ended the show just a couple of hours ago and I still can't believe how ahead of its time QAF was. I also can't believe that this time I recognized so many places after living in Toronto for 10 years (who would imagine!!!). The different stories, the evolution of each character, how similar to Deb I am currently with my 13 y/o boy, haha!!! 23 years ago, I didn't finish the series, and today I CRIED in the last scene of Brian and Justin making love. Actually love. So beautiful!!!!
    Let's say QAF, back when I was 21 and now at almost 43, makes me believe in love. THANK YOU!!!!

    I watched this show years ago when I was in high school and I remember the ending being so tough for me because they weren’t together. Being older now, Brian saying that even if it’s next week, next month, or never again, it’s only time is just so beautiful to me. Time can’t affect their love for each other and the bond they have and I have no doubt that they found each other again.

    I was living in LA and working for Warner Music when this show was broadcast. I was one of the founders of the LGBTQ+ Employee Affinity group at Warner Brothers Studios. Because of that affiliation, we were privileged to get the creators, head writer and 3 of the stars of the show to come to the studios one week before the series finale and let us watch the last episode early. It was great to hear them talk about the show beforehand and answer questions. The producers actually had to make a one-off copy for our viewing so we felt very special. Growing up in a conservative town of 150 people in rural Illinois, the impact of this show on my own acceptance of who I was and the sheer variety of members of our community was just incredible. So I thank them all for taking the risks and creating a show that even my straight friends became invested in the characters and storyline.

    The writers of the show showed us multiple times over the course of the series that Brian and Justin always reunited eventually. Just because they call off the engagement doesn't mean that they "Broke up" or stopped loving each other-they just weren't the marrying type. I think a lot of people think that they broke up because they didn't get the traditional "happily ever after" that the other couples on the show got.
    since the show ended executive Producers Daniel Lipman and Ron Cowen have stated in multiple interviews (including at the end of this video) that of course Brian and Justin would see each other again. They wouldn't live apart forever- that's also somthing the show showed us. If Brian and Justin didn't break up when Justin went to Hollywood why would they when he went to New York? that never made sense to me. The show ended not their love. The point of their relationship was that it transcended barriers other couples traditionally defined their relationship by.

    In the 2000s, I was a volunteer board member for a tiny , grassroots Pride Center in a very small city in a rural county, in a red state. I was relatively new to to the rainbow community, having only acknowledged my bisexuality in 1996 at the age of thirty. The Pride Center here very supportive, thanks to our founders, very inclusive of all the letters, in our policy and culture.
    Even so, one day, standing in the kitchen of the little house that was our Center, I was told by an older gay man that my sexual identity wasn’t real. His tone wasn’t vicious, he just sort of casually told me I didn’t exist.
    A bit before COVID, at our LGBT coffee gathering, another older gay man made a derisive remark about gay parents, saying he hoped for the end of the “fad” among gay men wanting children. I was stunned. I pointed out that as a man of his generation should know, there have always been gay men who wanted children. If they were able, they married women and had families. I said “I don’t think it’s a fad. I think it’s as simple as some people want children and some people don’t.”
    I am happy to say those were the only incidents of intra -LGBTQIA+ discrimination in our little community I have personally encountered or heard about. I have heard of LGBTQIA+ communities and even Pride Centers in large metropolitan areas that cannot say the same. We are attacked enough from without, we ought not to tear ourselves down from within.

    i am English and saw the original British version when it first came out and i absolutely loved it, then later when i heard that the USA were going to make their own version of the show i thought that it would be crap, and that they would spoil, what was to me at the time, perfection and so i never bothered watching the USA version until last year and OMFG !!!! i absolutely LOVED it !!!! i became obsessed with it and with the characters etc, every role was acted to perfection, every scene that was written was perfect and the camera work was perfect too ! everything about the show was perfect to me. the characters had me in tears, they had me laughing, they had me wanting to reach out to them and hug them or help them or to even just spend time with them. all of the main cast did brilliant jobs of portraying the emotions and feelings of their characters even down to the look in their eyes ! Gale and Randy were so good at playing their roles and so convincing that i, along with many other people, wanted them to be in a real life relationship because they just HAD to be together for real to be able to convey such emotional and realistic performances. thank you for posting this video of the panel, they answered a few questions on thoughts that i had had. now i think that i will have to go and re-watch the series and also watch the USA version of Shameless too ! ps, i will always have a very soft spot for Charlie Hunnam though but i also love randy too !

      Thank you for a mature and objective analysis. I love the British version, but I honestly feel the American version expanded the story. And yes, I think Charlie Hunnam was pretty darn good, too.

    I watched this show back when it premiered and every time I find it on plus on Netflix. I don’t care who you are, this was and is the best show ever made and I will watch it a million time if I get that chance. It’s so much more than a show about being gay, it’s about human relationships. The good, the bad and the ugly. I cried, I laughed, I worried over the characters. I loved the characters as if they were my very own friends. Brian Kinney will always be the most beautiful man ever. The ending had me sobbing.
    No matter how many times this show is remade, they will never even come close to this original US version with these specific actors. I recruited friends to watch who initially balked at it but then as much as I loved it, my friends would start asking when was the next episode. You guys were so authentic, so real, so very lovable. All of you, every one in your special way.

    It's dec 2023 and QAF is still as impactful and relevant as ever. I'm in a reddit thread for BL fans and the name of the series regularly pops up. I had first watched and loved the British version, so when the US version was announced to be aired on the then unique cable channel for French TV I thought it would probably be a sanitized, more commercial series. By the end of episode 1 I had a complete change of mind. I got divorcerd very soon after and could not afford cable tv any longer, so I had to ask my sis to buy the HVS then the Dvd boxes for my birthday or for Xmas. I educated my teen kids with them. They thanked me several times for the very lgbtqi+ education I gave them, but also for raising the bar high in the expectations for quality content in the series they choose. I was particularly in awe of the prom episode. I loved the angst, the humour, the cringe, the romance and the raunchiness alike. Being heartbroken, an impoveridhed mother of two and a fresh social outcast would have been much harder without the help of QAF wonderful characters.

    I'm so glad I watched this through to the end. It makes my heart so happy to know that they didn't write the final episode as and ending of the Brian and Justin relationship. It is true that their relationship never followed a "normal" path, and what they said made sense.

    also, despite how the producers feel about the amount of seasons, i personally would not mind 6th or even 7th season. for me, the ending was unsatisfactory because brian and justin´s storyline was left open. i don´t care much for their wedding/marriage, but it ended not knowing whether they will be still together when justin went to NY. in our minds we can say that sure they will, but what would satisfy me would be to see it on screen. they could´ve just fastforwarded it to the time when justin came back and they reunited, implying they will stay together forever. all that it would took would be a couple of extra scenes to that finale and it would be perfect.

    • @samhoe9
      @samhoe9 7 років тому +16

      Or Brian moving to NY.. he always wanted to live there.. and I agree with you on the wedding/marriage part, it doesn't matter, just a paper.. they should have moved together, it wouldn't be any different than the life they had in Pittsburgh.

      Anna Sári That's true! But I always wanted them to be in a (don't know how to say it) REAL relationship, just the two of them and not having sex with any other guy. So if they admit they love each other and have such a relationship, it's just the perfect solution, at least for me.

    • @FruityHachi
      @FruityHachi 7 років тому +6

      Melody Lightheart you mean exclusive (or committed) relationship. but we saw at the end that even tho Brian turned off his bachelor party and wanted to just go home with Justin, he did this only because he was willing to be whoever Justin wanted him to be. But as the producers of the show said here, when Justin finally had what he wanted - a monogamous Brian, he realized that he fell in love with a lion not a house cat.

    • @melodylightheart1145
      @melodylightheart1145 7 років тому

      Dom Thanks for the word (German girl tries to write in English; )) and I totally agree with you accept the thing about the lion and the house cat. I know the producer said so, but in my opinion Justin still loves Brian, because he's changed some of his habits, but not his whole personality. He will always be the (sometimes too) honest, crazy, funny guy he's always been. I mean, they both changed a lot through all these seasons, but that is what's happening all the time in the whole world, and it's nothing bad but exciting.

    • @FruityHachi
      @FruityHachi 7 років тому +7

      yeah sure that Justin still loved Brian. i don't think that's what they had in mind when the producers said that Justin fell in love with a lion not a house cat. but more like that Justin doesn't want Brian to sacrifice his identity to make Justin happy. i think that it was even said in the show "that's not love, that's sacrifice".
      sure that they both grew and changed in some ways throughtout seasons, but Brian still didn't change in regards to fucking around. he didn't want to change that from his own will, he only did it to please Justin. i think that's why Justin didn't like this, he probably would welcome this change if it would be Brian's own decision, and not something that he's practically forced to do to not lose Justin again.

    To come back and revisit this reunion in 2023 and realize that we, the gay community, have made huge strides in human rights issues. However; we now face an uncertain period where none of us could forsee a concept of Christian Nationalism. Somehow along our path we lost sight of a danger to civil rights and even our lives. The finger points to people outside our circle who do Not wish nor want to act in the way the Christian faith should behave toward one another. It does work for them, for people who refuse to see someone else's life as having any meaning. We are probably facing our greatest challenge now, as opposed to several years ago. Let us just hope our purpose remains as our hope for a better future finally comes to pass. Thank you!

    • @blu48
      @blu48 День тому

      I completely agree with you. This Christian Nationalism you wisely labled is very dangerous. It is definitely the opposite of what true Christianity is supposed to be. I also think that this Nationalism is becoming fascism as civil liberties in general are being eroded all in the name of anti-gender equality. It's distressing.

    Long random comment, but I’m under emotions)
    I just ended rewatching it after 10 years. Few years ago I tried rewatching, but got distracted after season 1 and didn’t comeback. Now I manage to fulfill it in week and half. I’m so happy that somewhere in 2012-2014 I found it. Still in school, in county with zero acceptance of lgbtq. It was whole new world for me, world where I fit.
    I remember first time trying to watch it after reading Wikipedia page about this series. I found some crappy quality first episode and after few minutes give up. I didn’t speak any English back then, so probably it was only one with Russian translation. But plot seems so intriguing and new, that I come back and watch.
    Oh, I’m so in love with characters. I’m not really remembering how much I noticed back then about Brian and Justin true depth of filings. But now I was drowning in their little steps toward each other, protectiveness. I’m so relieved that their relationship only seems better now, when I’m older. Cause recently I checked another series that I watched in school and I really started to like another character and dislike my fav from back then.
    But not here)
    Still bitter that we got open ending. But I’m sure the only way this should have ended: with happy and contended Brian and Justin together)
