I’m here for any and all rhubarb content! My rhubarb is struggling this year, but we had more than I knew what to do with last year, so hopefully it will bounce back if we ever get any sun and warmth. We’ve lit the log burner the last few evenings brrrrrr. I can’t actually remember a May being this cold.
Love love love the recipes (especially handwritten) for posterity. That will become a treasure box in more ways than one. Bring on all things rhubarb. 😉 Lovely work as always Tracy. xx
The pepper hole is earwigs. I suffered with it last year, I’m not sure I will this year as I’m not sure anything will ever grow 😂!!! Last year I grew sweetcorn in a big bed that I filled half way with sticks/thin logs, leaves and grass. Then the top had compost on. I know it’s not the same as straw but I worried the same. It wasn’t a problem in the end. Thank goodness. Can’t wait till the next vlog xxx
Bloomin slugs and snails this year.. they decimated my runner beans! I’d be tempted to make the sweetcorn bed a bit sturdier they are heavy.. but then again they spread their roots quite wide and deep so you might end up with stronger plants overall maybe? x
Hi there, Tracey. This weather!!!! The snails 🐌! 😩. As you say at least it’s green. Your potatoes look amazing. We had those holes in all our outdoor green peppers last year. I didn’t try to figure out what it was, though. I’ve planted out less this year and might cover with an insect mesh and hand pollinate. I mound sweetcorn up with soil/compost. We didn’t have strong winds last summer but if they were forecast I would have staked around the block and wound the block with string just to keep them upright. Looking forward to a few rhubarb vlogs. 😃 Atb, A.
Well I opened the pepper and nothing in it, looks clean inside too so I’ll keep an eye out for more. Critters! Spuds are very green, I hope they’re not all fur coat 😂 I’m just about to order enviromesh for the new carrot bed. Not risking it. Thank you re sweetcorn, I keep flitting!
I think it’s so funny how the geese run around in a group. Same here Tracy cold and wet and furnace had to go on in the mornings. Winter coat and bobble hat too 🥶🌧️ June you say it’s more like March. The poor little lamb had its last hours in good warm hands ❤. Could be earwig or caterpillar, yes the caterpillars are out already I had a huge one on a pot the other day 😮. Slugs are rampant and ate half my tomato plants with all this rain. 8:50 😂😂 I didn’t hear a crunching sound. Corn should be ok as it has huge roots that flay out and help each other. How is the front hallway doing Steven hasn’t updated us. Hope his back is better ❤️🩹. Great update have an amazing week, stay warm, Ali 🌧️🌧️🥶🇨🇦
I got one but is just a black plastic one never the less my daughter that turned 18 last week is always in there making cakes and cookies,I’m going to make one for her to take to university with ones she loves best, here too gone cold and rainy 😢
I am so enjoying your video’s, I have dreams of having a small holding one day. The first step was starting or allotment adventures this year which we love. I look forward to following your rhubarb series we too have it in abundance. Do you have a video on the channel showing pressure canning? I would be interested to see. Kelly
Great video as always Tracy. Our rhubarb has been shocking this year... but that's a consequence of spending 2/3 months under water. Don't blame you enjoying the Aga... we resorted to putting the heating on the other day.
I think it’s absolutely lovely you’re writing recipes down. I am doing the same and don’t even have my own children to pass into. They will appreciate it someday 💕. I would have a peek at that pepper - I’ve found the culprit inside sometimes (usually a caterpillar) and sometimes it’s just external damage (usually a slug). I’m not sure about ants, here they usually just farm the aphids on the pepper plants but don’t directly damage the peppers themselves. I think it might be a risk in that bed for the sweet corn. Mine is grown in raised beds and about 18 inches of soil and I’ve had them tipping over after strong winds. I’d just be sure to try and secure them from swaying too much, if you can’t switch the bed at this point. 🥂🇨🇦
Thanks for the great advice as always. I think I’ll go with it and stake as necessary. I think 😂 so I cut the pepper open and nothing inside, slugs then? I hope to catch them in the act!
It’s freezing down here in Wales too. I’m out n about with a scarf and bobble hat! We’re inundated with slugs and snails this year. Seriously considering buying nematodes to try and reduce numbers. I’m also struggling with (I think) crows looking for worms in my raised beds who are disturbing the seeds I’ve sown. Resorted to putting chicken wire over some beds. Your garlic is amazing to have lasted so long, I peeled and put mine in the freezer a few weeks ago. The soup looks delicious. Let’s hope it warms up soon. Have a good week.
@@gaynorbowen241 it must be due to the long and wet winter, surely. I’ve heard from so many growers, the same thing. Bobble hat definitely isn’t in the cupboard just yet! Thank you re garlic, I don’t think we’ll run short given what we still have, I just hope it comes good. I hope you win the crow war too! X

Thank you so much!

All hail the rhubarb!! 😂😂

Oh decisions! Thank you. The snails have found my Greek beans 😣
earwigs? I'm sure i had some like that last year.
I remember I had something like this but can’t remember what! I’ll keep an eye out 👀

I do! Take a look at the playlists my lovely. All the best and enjoy that allotment!
It will be slugs or earwigs in your peppers. I had loads last year. I've got fine mesh bags to put over each pepper this year to protect them.
Great idea! Thank you!
Amazing thank you for sharing. Can't wait to see what you do with the rhubarb.
Thank you! Hopefully a day or so for the rhubarb video :)

Hopefully your rhubarb will thrive soon and if not then a good year next year! Been chilly again today!

@@OurSmallholdingAdventure probably a slug. I’ve had them nibble hot peppers even though you’d think they wouldn’t 😂
