I just made my first pipe bowl out of soapstone this week, using a dremel and a $4 hack saw from Walmart. Turned out decent for my first attempt and having no prior knowledge. Might try this style next
...and once again a piece of art and outstanding craftsmanship! thanks for the inspiration... love all the videos of yours...keep them coming and take care!
Nice piece man I had a couple questions what kind of bad it on ur bandsaw and ur hand saw and what kind of drill bits were used it looks like u used wood bits and a metal hand say like something that would be use for pipe
Hello, thanks for your comment! the blade on my bandsaw was a 4 TPI 3/8'' by 0.025. It is the best blade for soft stone. you can also fit it to your handsaw bay measuring and drilling a piece to fit a handsaw. ask the guys you order your blades from if they have any end of the roll pieces of blade stock and they may just give you some pieces that are too small to make a band out of. As for the drill bits you can use any types of bits for either metal or wood for soapstone. Thanks
You’ll smoke clear coat the first few times you light, it’s not safe but not too bad. I wouldn’t smoke that pipe because of the epoxy used for the accent around the bowl. It’s fine on the stem, but you’ll be smoking epoxy from the bowl connection until it degrades enough to come apart
couldn't you have just gotten the same result with the big piece by itself abd put some design's on it seems kinda pointless and much more work for the thing that you could have gotten quicker and sooner
Thanks for the comments! Yes, it would be less work to use one piece but one piece pipes are boring and aren't as visually stunning as when you add highlights. Whenever you make art it is always worth going the extra mile especially with stone carving that can potentially last for ever. This is a way I modernized the traditional peace pipe. If you make the joins properly they should fit together perfectly flush so once you press the pieces together there is literally a thinner layer of glue than a piece of paper. Epoxy also has a high burning temperature once it's fully cured so you would have to smoke a lot very fast to heat it enough to burn it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

oh and i´d be interested in seeing you carve a caribu. would be great to see how you´d go upon this...thanks! ;-)
Awesome
Well done, awesome. I also carve some soapstone but stuff I use is all light green. Wish I could get my hands on some of that black stone.
Can you make a how to video for carving a stem?
Is black pipestone a soft stone? Is it easy to cut?
Is there a specific process for seasoning it, or anything for the process of breaking it in?
For the purpose of creating a carbon layer, it’s usually pack bowl halfway for awhile and then full pack.

how long did it take to make that? and is that clearcoat spray safe to smoke?
It takes about an hour to make one and yes it is safe to smoke.

At 3:05 DONT WEAR A GLOVE !!!!! It will pull you hand in very easy and destroy your fingers.
Pipes that have no Power just made for the purpose of crafting. Nothing else
