ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
I personally love the accent. Don't change. I think it sets apart from the rest. I think you are doing great.
How on earth would the man "change" how he talks?! And indeed, why should he? I use closed captions, for English.
I agree! Cammy’s accent is is part of why I watch the vids (from Wisconsin, USA)! (It’s also a big reason I listen to the Fed by Farmer’s podcast. I LOVE listening to Cammy, Iona & guests. The more Scots dialect the better!! …… but I also enjoy listening to Lizzy’s English, so Farming Born & Bred is the place for that.👂👍 🏴 🏴)
💯 Why would anyone even say something like that. Love your content.
“We” love you just the way you are.
Glad you enjoy his Ayrshire accent
I don't think you realise how much joy you bring to people with your channel, a lot of them may not have the confidence to add a comment, so for those who would like to, from all of us "Thanks Cammy and everyone on The Sheep Game"
Well said!! I agree!❤
Don’t go changin’, to try to please me. We like you just the way you are! 🎶🎵🎶🎵
It’s taken about a year, but I understand most of what you say now!
Glad you and Lizzie got a date! You have to cherish those moments alone together during busy times, even if it is working or doing errands! Lizzie looks great, I hope she’s feeling well too!
Well said ❤
The more I watch you Cammy the easier it is for me to understand your accent. Thank you for all you do
Me too! I can now understand about half of what he says...which is a great improvement for me! 😂
@@triciasanders2455 😂🤣😂
Your accent is wonderful. It's makes you who you are. Don't change.
At the end of the day - the way we speak is a map of the life we've lived. It has your history in it. The words you use, the phrases you've picked up, the accent, all of that is a part of who you are. Keep doing you - if it's tough to follow here and there, well, we'll get ourselves up to speed soon enough. 😊
Best to you, Lizzie, and the little ones. We've all got a different path to walk, thank you for sharing yours with us. I learn something new every day from you and Lizzie - be it about sheep, or how to accept difficult days with grace, and look ahead to better days. Be well.
x.
Absolutely! Well said!
I think youve got a very clear Scots accent! You use Scots language on occasion as we should! Proud Scots 🏴🏴🏴
Damn straight!
I lost my husband 3 years ago next month, never in my life did I think at the age of 42 I would become a widow and left to raise 4 young boys. It’s a tough time of year the run upto his anniversary and also his birthday last month. Watching these gives me purpose and a lift, I’ve a horse and love riding to near by fields to watch the lambs and mums. Thankyou to you and your beautiful family for giving us an insight into your life x
God bless you and your family 😇! Joni
❤
I'm so sorry for your loss!
Prayers for you and your family. It sounds like your boys have a great mother to help them through!🙏❤
Nothing like the Ayrshire accent x
Cammy never stop being u, ur little jock is a credit to u and lizzie
To the person that said that scottish accents could hold your kids back. Please tell the them to HAUD YER WEESHT
I don’t know what that means, but I think I agree!! I love the way he speaks!
And his kids are great! They have 2hard working parents that actually show them the right way to live!!!
@@sandysgrandgirlssandysswee2492 its means be quiet.
Look your accent is what makes you CAMMYYYYYY! That being said subtitles are everyone's friends...😂😂
Forget subtitles, Scots is not a foreign language, what an insult! Look up what you don't understand!
@@user-ed9ut9ic6h it IS foreign to some people. Not everyone's first language is English based.
@@1269698 Elizabeth, if people can't understand what he's saying, let them find another channel.
Its not that we don't know the meaning of the words he says, its that our brains can't comprehend the actual word.
I have found that subtitles can't comprehend either, some of it is non-sense.
Dear Cammie and Lizzie. My grandfather came from Colmonell/Barrhill and moved to Australia before WW1. Growing up I did have a harder time understanding him. He never lost his accent. So part of me is here for the accent. It feels like a warm blanket. xxx
Spots a bloody legend
Spot has the determination of a much larger dog and the heart of a true champion. Such an amazing dog! ❤
And Meg the wonder dog taught him the victory roll. I hope.
@@haggielady She did! I was catching up on videos so I don't know which video it's in but Spot was doing a victory roll! Now she just needs to explain how to catch lambs to help Cammy.
Spot is a particularly intelligent dog
A thinker
A perfectionist
Very receptive to Cammy
Also I think it is sweet how Spot responds to praise and physical contact from Cammy
Spot lives for those moments ❤️
@@Traceva yes he does.
I think the Scottish accent is lovely. I understand every word even when you’re blatherin wi your chums ❤
Just imagine a world where we all sounded the same 😮
We are losing and have lost too many languages / native speakers.
All it takes is just training ones ear and listening (which too many do not do anymore)
❤ 🇨🇦
I am really enjoying your Fed by Farmers podcast- keeping me amused/informed while walking my pup xx
The @8:30 mark when Spot is watching you pen up the ewe. You can see how much he loves his work. He's hoping she will escape so he can catch her again😂😂 he's a fine boy
I FORGOT THAT CF WAS BLUE! 😂😂😂 ❤
The spot is just unbelievable! What a tackle! Money well spent on him.
Spot is some dog alright, but so is Meg, love the collies, great dogs.
The accent is lovely, as is the dialect. Your demeanour is just what I need after working with at risk teens all day. Honestly, watching you after my work has finished goes a long way to restoring my faith in the next generation. I wish my students could have been raised like you are raising your kids.
I love your accent. You are what you are , I don't understand people who think other's should change the way they talk , etc.
Love the accent and full disclosure I don’t always catch everything you say but it feels so authentic. Never change!
It feels authentic because it IS!😀
I love listening to your dialect!!! 👍 Your videos are great to watch, and the "Jock Cam" is a joyful addition to any video! 😂
I love your lambing videos especially when you put jock cam on as it’s great to see his cheeky character coming out
I LOVE your accent! And I'm from the southern USA so I have a nice country accent myself. We each have different ways of speaking and I believe it's what makes the world so special and interesting.
We enjoy the Scottish accent. I think the vast majority of people have little trouble understanding you, Cammy. Please continue to be authentic and genuine.
Brilliant video once again
Lizzie us absolutely glowing in he pregnancy.
Hope you both managed a wee bit time that day to sit with your feed up and relax.
Much love to Angela hope things get better for you.
It's amazing how rescuing Fiona has brought so many people together. Love you and your family. Can't wait for new ones arrival.... Bless ya'll.
Spot is a star. 👏🏼👏🏼❤️. FYI, I think your dialect is charming. Those were big, speedy lambs to chase. Cheers to you and Lizzie on date day 😊❤️
You are doing outstanding work and are an incredibly genuine, compassionate, intelligent individual. We love your sense of humor and family. I have lived in Canada 32 years and still have a regional English accent! Be yourself, your true fans love your incredible real vlog and humor. Thanks for all you do ❤😊
Love the accent! I'm from rural southwest Virgina and plenty of ppl here have what is considered a very Appalachian accent. The first few videos of yours I watched yrs ago I had trouble understanding a few words but it didn't take long to catch on. I think some ppl just like to complain. Your accent is lovely and so is Lizzie's. The kids will have the best of both worlds. That's the great thing about the internet, ppl who don't get out and about can learn about the world from their own home.
I was a farmer 2 years ago and now I am disabled have something called fnd I love farming but now I get by watching UA-cam and your videos are amazing and makes me miss it each day keep up the good work you do
I was raised by parents from Texas so I definitely had an accent. In third grade we moved up north…guess who became bilingual 🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️ really fast!!! And it was speaking English both ways
Spot showing off for Lizzie, And whatever you do, don't let Jock see Spot being daredevil!
I’ve been watching the channel for three years and I won’t lie, at first your accent was a challenge especially coming from the Southern US. After a while my ears became accustomed to it and now I have no issue in understanding your presenter voice. I’ve also picked up some of your common Scots phrases and it’s all made enjoying the channel even better. As for wee Jock he’ll probably do something similar to “Code Switching” in the states. This turn of phrase is used to describe how many African Americans can easily switch back and forth from standard US English to their regional dialects of AAVE (African American Vernacular English). At the end of the day your decision to teach him both Scots and English is not wrong and that thinking is how a lot of beautiful accents and dialects die out because they are viewed as less than. They are not they’re different and have value.
I'm fine tuning my hearing to understand your pronunciation in anticipation of a trip to Scotland from Canada in the next couple of years. Carry on Cammy. You're doing a great job. I'm learning a lot. 🙂
It is not a problem, after you're there for a few days, anyway.
In terms of your dialect... It took me a bit to get used to as I'm Czech so English isn't my first language but you were just so fun to watch and educational that I stuck with watching your videos and now I just listen to you and understand everything (except for some tiny bits). I think it even helped me learn English even better by listening to a different dialect (accent). So if someone has a problem with your accent at first I think they should stick around and just give it a bit of time to get used to. ❤
I'm Scottish living in England and I love the way you talk Cammy it reminds me of home. Lizzie and yourself have fabulous boys. Spot is coming on great it's great seeing him work. I can't wait for your next video to come out It de-stresses me after a busy day at work, carry on the great work.🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑
I haven’t laughed so much for a long time, great to see you chasing those”lambs.Yes I do find your accent difficult at times but that is part of your charm, don’t change for anyone.
Your accent is fabulous Cammie. I love a wee bit of Scottish. You do you.
I love the accent. Takes me back to my childhood and my great great aunts, the daughters of Jessie McConochie Lachlan.
Anyone who grew up in the 70s knows what we are gonna need a bigger boat means.
I was born in the 90s.. and i know what it means..
🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Im in California and i understand everything you say. I dont understand why anyone would have issues with the way you speak.
Except when he is conversing with others at the auction house - the accent and words used then are challenging for me.
I imagine people with English as their second language could have issues.
Now I am not a good example for that hypothesis, since English is not my first language, but I am also on quite a high level of English.
Here in California also but grew up in farm flix and grass men country on a sheep farm. Love listening to those words that I havnt heard in a long time.
My granddaughter went to a petting zoo and she went straight away to the lambs. She loved them and has watched your channel but never touched a sheep or lamb. They also gave her a huge flop eared bunny to hold. She said, don’t tell Cammy, I liked his sheep a lot, they were really cute, but that bunny was so so soft. I just loved him. She’s 5 and adorable.
Jesus Cammy those lambs are so fast, its incredible that at a few days old they have that much stamina. It was funny seeing you going here there and everywhere trying to catch them 😂🤣😂
Love your speech.
Watching you chase after sheep kills me off every time 😂😂😂😂😂
The flying tackle he did a few days ago to catch a ewe was truly impressive!
I also love your videos Cammy. It’s a true picture of farming life. Not always pretty but honest. Love watching your boys growing up in the countryside. Thanks for letting us share your joys, triumphs and pain. You chose well when you asked Lizzie to share your life. 💐
Cracking video as always. I’m a disabled guy from a farming background. Keep up the good work and keep doing what you are doing.
We watch your vlogs everyday and love them, they got us through a really tough 1st year lambing a larger flock of commercial sheep so thanks for that.
Everytime my other half does a clever catch of a ewe or lamb, I say 'well done cammy' but i worry that you influence on her has gotten a little too strong now after she reversed the pick-up into a fence post yesterday and left a very large dent in it 😂
Get a big bandaid sticker to slap over the damaged panel 😂
When you on the back of the bike with Lizzie, A perfect time for a romantic serenading song :) just for you two to hear.
love watching all, especially Jockie and Angus and my prayer is that the delivery of Wilson #3 is uneventful and mom and babe do well
When I watch your lambing videos, I'm reminded of a friend who ran a couple thousand head of sheep in New Mexico. She told me that she took a month-long job as cook for a remote drilling rig, feeding full meals for ten men at 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m. and midnight. I asked about the workload and she said she took the job to get out of lambing at home, cooking was easier and grabbing sleep when she could was just like lambing.
My Granny was Scottish and I loved her accent! The Scottish accent is so nice to listen to, whoever says it is "holding you back" is talking rubbish. Keep being you Cammy!
I think I can speak for most of us that you are quite understandable. From the Southern USA.
I love your accent, I can understand you almost perfectly, LOL, from Ontario, Canada
This is the power of your channel, Cammie. You bring us all together and we chat amongst ourselves, and answer questions, etc. But the REAL meat is your ability to inspire people. Think of the grandparents who can’t be with their grandkids often- they see Jock and Angus and the cousins, and it helps fill that void. The parents who decide to watch you with their kids, and then do rural farming/farm animal trips, disabled or not. The people out there who were skittish about trying sheep-you’ve made it not scary for them. You and your channel have opened up a new world to so many of us, and your honesty and humility keep us coming back. We may not number in the millions, but we love you hard, dude.
Cammy, I specifically began following you, Graeme, and Dalscone because of your accents. With Lizzie and her accent, your kids will get the best of both worlds. They can learn Received Pronunciation English in school and from the media. They will be blessed with a well rounded ability in languages. ♥️♥️♥️
Spot's turning into a ripper dog ,his catching is impressive, he's learnt the best spot to hold them
I love your accent. It tickles my American ears, sending wishes that everything is going well for you and your family.
It is the same for me. I have anxiety. Recently lost our dog to a degenerative neurological disease so it has made it worse. I find so much joy in your videos. I found you through Dalscone Farm and am a proud Dalsconie. I am Scottish and Irish so I feel at “home” with all of you.
Hey, I'm from Belgium. I accidentally saw a video of you. And I must say really fell in love with Scotland and the scottish accent. My laguage is Dutch, and in school I learned Brittish english, but I understand everything that you say. Don't change your accent please. Thats the reason I keep watchting your viedeos
I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota USA I have no problem with your accent. I do appreciate when using a new word in the Scottish dialect, afterwords you provide the definition.
You are so positive it’s amazing. Hold onto that !
Are you kidding? I LOVE the accent so much! It is who you are and part of your charm. Never change ♥️ People can be so ridiculous
I love the sheep game! When I started watching I had to use the captions and watch in real time. After a few months I’m able to watch your vids in my usual 1.5 speed.
Don’t go a changing Cammy. You do you👍👍
I love love your your accent my grandad was from Scotland and you bring back such happy memories from when he visited us every summer when I was a child I’m now 62.
I very much love your videos, they make my day! If you can do it, and make it through your day, I can too!
I am able to understand your english w your scottish brogue....one of my culinary teachers/chefs was from Scotland...He was a kind wonderful man named Angus Campbell
I might rely on close captions sometimes, but I love your accent. You be you. You raise your babies as you see fit. Nothing will hold you back if you don't let it!! Your going great.
You are such a great example of the "keep pushing forward" motto. And your patience is inspiring. You help a lot of us to have a better day. Never mind the accent. If folks have issues understanding you, that's what closed captions are for!!!! And I do agree that the more I watch you the better I can understand you. We're all different, for Pete's sake. It would be a boring old world if everyone was the same.
So far, there is only on expression that I've not known, and that's okay!
Love from Canada!
Please don't change the way you talk; I could listen to you all day. Have always wanted to go to Scotland but watching your videos is the next best thing.
I'm in Slovenia, a native Hungarian speaker, and even I understand 95% of what you say! 😂😂 Looove the accent (my brother lives in Aberdeen), love your channel, love your sheep (and learned a LOT here), love seeing Lizzy and the boys as well (im also a homebirther😊).
Cammy : Always check with your vet for any advice.
I wish more people would do that when it comes to their own health and not something you see on any social media.
Especially when it comes to "beauty enhancements".
Understand every word you speak. Sometimes your fast. Love it.
Love that historical old main farmhouse, especially the attic window. How grand it looks. Serendipitously it has appeared. It's exactly as I envisioned the reconstruction and enlargement of a Dachfenster.
Sweet comment and so true.
Appreciate your efforts and your sharing.
Your Scottish accent is just fine and part of the man you are, don't change.
You and Lizzie make a dynamic partnership. Thanks 🦋🌻
Cammy, I watch your channel and enjoy it immensely because you ARE Scottish! The accent comes with the heritage. ❤
You say you should run more but wow, you get a lot of training just chasing down ewes and lambs! 🏃
And I will echo the lovely comment you read at the end - you and Lizzy sharing your farming, lambing and family with us makes a great difference to so many of us. It lifts me up and gives me something to focus on, for even a short time, besides my cancer treatments. Thank you both for all you do - it is very much cherished and appreciated.❤
I love the fact we squeeze so many accents and dialects into the U.K. Talking of blended accents, I used to have a lecturer at college (in England) who had a Polish father and a Welsh mother. He had a wonderful accent. Love to you, Lizzy, boys and bump and all the team. Love to Angelina and your son too.
I’m a Geordie in Newcastle so only an hour from the Scottish border and I understand you perfectly because we use quite a bit of your language and I love hearing it so please don’t change, 7:20 I’m partially disabled now and can’t get about very well and my dream was to have a farm. I always look forward to watching you and Graham (hoof gp) every day to give me my daily fix 😁
Cammy, your accent is you!! Your family is lovely ( and growing), your farming is so exciting ( I am not a farmer), and overall your videos are a genuine experience! Love them! Keep them coming, brightens my days, even your tougher days. ❤
Best 2024 spring lambing vlog on You Tube imo. Well done Cammy, another great video! 😊
Watching you trying to catch those lambs...
We have a roll of orange cordon fencing (like a plastic net you would see around a construction site or excavation). Wooden pencil post at each end. It can be rolled out and a couple taps with the sledge hammer and you have a 25m fence. This can be put up at 90 degrees to a hedge or fence and then you have a corner anywhere. Or even better put it at a narrow angle and you have a funnel. Love the videos, it's our evening soap at present 😅
Having spent time in the South Rhins, your accent is crystal clear by comparison! Hold you/Jock back - what a load of shite. We're lucky in the UK to have such a fantastic range of regional accents, it'd be a poorer place without them.
I love listening to your accent, I'm learning more and more what You're saying! Spot is a great working dog! I enjoy your videos!❤
How dare that person say such a ridiculous thing. I'm fuming and it's not my child. You live in Scotland how else would he speak😡😡😡. I live down south and people here have an accent. I don't because I lived a lot of my childhood abroad because my father was in the RAF. This does NOT give this person the right to say your children may be held back because of it. I understand you perfectly 😡😡😡
Here here!
Agreed
EXACTLY!
I worked at the fuel (diesel) desk of truck stops for many years. There was a very international clientele that fueled their trucks, so I became quite accustomed to different accents. Your accent is an easy one to understand.
I am from Sweden 🇸🇪 but I can understand you very well.
Hi Cammy and Lizzy. I knew your supporters would come to your defense. Yankee here loves hearing and seeing scenes from the old country (America's pet name for where ever they came from.) I do turn on CC which helps with the unfamiliar terms.
I was born and raised in Texas. All the other people have accents! Not me. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Actually, the accent is what drew me in to watch your channel! LOVE the accent and dialect of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, etc. As I am Scots, Irish and French by heritage, but have never been there, it gives me the chance to experience the culture a little bit. Don’t let the critics spoil your joy. We watch for YOU…the sheep are an enjoyable aside. (When I say YOU-I am speaking of the whole family and extended community. Love you all! 🌸🕊🤗💕
Our children grew up in Aberdeen with my RAF posh English accent and hubby's Aberdonian/Doric combination. They are all adults now with accents that don't stand out amongst their peers but they can "talk posh" when needed like when they're down south visiting family. Don't worry about Jock & Angus, as soon as they start school their accents will adapt to fit their peers x
I love your accent- don't change, your kids will be fine and, in years to come, they will be comforted by memories of your voice and their life with Mom and dad.
The accent is no problem at all. At first there was some missed words and phrases but after several weeks of watching I realized I could understand you perfectly.
Don’t change love the accent love Scotland my husband is from there
I love your accent ! People always need something to complain about I guess 🙄 glad lambing is going better .
I love your accent, even when you get excited and it gets stronger. No troubles understanding anything you say. It’s one of the, many, reasons I watch. So pleased that the sun has come out and made things easier for you.
Love your accent Cammy you make my day be proud of your Scottish routes I look forward to seeing you & your family every day! Spot is getting better every day at catching Sheep ❤
Omg I’m from Illinois in the USA and I love how you talk …..it’s amazing and wonderful ….. and you humor and descriptions about everything is such a gift Jock will be so fortunate to speak just like his amazing gifted Dad ❤ I’m a retired language arts teacher with a major in English and Education so I should know and you are gifted in the way you speak and engage with everyone you are a very charismatic young man ❤
Love that Spot learned the victory roll from Meg!
I happen to enjoy the accent, Cammy, don't change a thing! I can understand you just fine. 🇨🇦
Look forward to watching everyday. Brings joy
Loving the videos . I was brought up on a dairy farm and always heard the sheep are hard work , which is very evident from your videos. But it great to see no matter what happens you love your job, there is not a lot of us that can say that . As for the Scottish accent holding the boys back , if they have the same outlook in life as lizzy and yourself notting will hold them back . Thanks for sharing you day to day life it's a wild journey
