I did it! I watched Twilight finally. I really do have so many questions about this film I am assuming will be answered in the next instalments. I was so perplexed at some of the ideas in this film but it toed the line between creepy and romantic beautifully. Enjoy :)

The thing with twilight is that every cullen and the relationships between them would make a better story than what we got also the reason Jasper looks like he's always in pain is because he is Jasper's power is to feel/alter emotions so when he's in school not only is Jasper dealing with his own bloodlust but also the rest of his family's as well which makes it incredibly hard for him to control his hunger

So for Phoenix this summer we had 31 straight days of 110+ degree heat. Usually around 115ish.

My brother-in-law and I really enjoyed the books and the movies and in fact, my brother-in-law told me that he and my sister are watching the movies again for about the fourth time. Okay I just started watching your reaction and I’m planning to answer as many questions as I can. I’ve got a word document up to track what to say as I go. I’m going to start with your question about Phoenix because it’s off topic and I actually know about Phoenix. I don’t live in Phoenix currently but I’ve spent probably half my life there, so I know what it is like. Obviously, I don’t know the temps in Celsius as we use Fahrenheit.
Phoenix is very dry most of the time but when they get a storm it’s usually intense. Monsoons and haboobs are both an annual event. Flooding is rare but historically has happened. (I’ve seen pictures) It’s because of so much rain so fast that the ground can’t absorb it. But like I said that’s rare and doesn’t affect the whole city. In square miles the Phoenix metropolitan area is massive and is composed of over 20 cities and towns.
It doesn’t feel like 4 seasons in Phoenix. It feels like 2. Mid-day temps begin to feel unpleasant about late April - May at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I did a few google searches and learned that on average they have 169 days a year over 90 degrees and 92 days over 100 degrees. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Phoenix is 122 degrees Fahrenheit. I remember that day. It was SO hot, and our air conditioner broke on that day. My dad told us all to get our hair wet to help stay cool. There were four of us and by the time the last of us got our hair wet the first one’s hair was dry. We ended up having to go visit grandma because it was impossible to cool off without A/C.
I don’t know anything specific about Australia but there are probably places where it’s hotter longer and places where it isn’t. It is a big place after all.

I’m currently in Sydney but planning to go up the east coast. I literally just got here a week ago! Pretty close to being book accurate. Even some of the dialogue is directly from the books (besides the last movie) I think what made it difficult is that soooo much of the book is the inner thoughts and experience from Bella's head and she is also supposed to be super anti-social, quiet, clumsy and awkward on top of that.
Also, Charlie is the best character lol

How book-accurate is it? Very. The actress potrayed Bella perfectly: akward, clumsy, weird af, obssessed. Edward was also excellently potrayed: an akward stalkery psycho in a romantic way and who seems uncomfortable 150% of the time. The books were peak romance for 13-year-old me. the movies aren't actually accurate at all when it comes to the characters and their dynamics. Don't get me wrong, to this day I love rewatching them but they're not good book adaptations. The first one alone which is the most iconic one doesn't portray the main characters at all and how they fall in love - which led to the biggest misconception that they "don't have personality" and they "fall in love in a day"
The first movie leaned on the awkwardness & broodiness when it comes to Bella & Edward, making those their defiant traits of the films.
in the books both of them have a more playful dynamic, both can be timid and humorous. They bond over music and argue over literature. Their whole thing is much less dramatic and more of a fragile thing; both are new to love and both don't see themselves clear and to why the other person would bother to love them

Edward looked at Bella like that in the cafeteria because he couldn’t hear her thoughts and was confused about why. I think he was trying to somehow break through and “hear” her.
He reacted that way in Biology because she smells so good to him that it was all he could do to resist killing her right there in class. He was angry because her presence ruins everything because how will he be able to resist?
That running up the mountain to the sunlight scene doesn’t happen in the book. All the stuff that happens then happened later in the story when they go hiking to a meadow deep in the woods. I don’t fault the movie peeps for changing this. They have to save time somewhere, but it does come across a bit silly that he just snatches her and goes running off.
The futures Alice sees change when people make decisions or change their minds. She only sees where things are going if everyone stays on the path they are on now.
Yes, they go to high school again when they start over in a new place so they can stay longer and not have to move so much. They want to try and live as normally as possible.
The scene where he grabs her and jumps out the window to climb trees and calls her spider monkey doesn’t happen in the books. I think they did that just for the visuals.
They do spend more time on their relationship in the book.
    LOL. Everyone loves Charlie.

At least a few times until I got to the point where there were no new electives to try. Then it would begin to be torture. In the screen rant for this movie the exec guy asks the writer guy why they would go to high school, and he says something like, because that's where the main character spends all her time and I need them to interact. LOL Logically that really is the only reason for them to be there.

What gets me is reading the books, Bella steps in front of the fan, and we go maybe five or more pages in Edward’s POV of Midnight Sun… he has planned the entire classes deaths to drink her blood in the span of one line of Twilight. It all would’ve happened in her lifting her foot to walk from the teacher’s desk to their table. It’s fascinating! They also don’t focus on Jasper’s powers. He was shielding Bella and Alice from the bad vampires. That’s why it took so long for them to notice her. The wind made hiding her irrelevant.

People think that Bella was the wrong choice as actress,, but in the books, she was supposed to be awkward and clumsy, as well as plain. The only reason people are interested in her is that she is new in town. Most vampire movies have the vampires fall for "beautiful" people. They didn't read the books.

I love your reactions, and the fact that you always look for the positive in things.
This is a tough series for a lot of people, because both the books and movies romanticize deeply unhealthy (and in some cases dangerous) behaviors. Swooning over stalking, predatory possessiveness, gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and extreme codependency (to name just a few in a long list of red flags) didn’t sit right with me as a teen when this was popular, and it’s even more horrifying to me now.
Yes, these stories are just fantasy, but they had a massive impact on young readers and viewers, and impressionable young minds deserve better examples of what to aspire to than this.

Fun, or not so fun fact - the Fifty Shades books were originally a Twilight fan fiction. Both of these franchises romanticise abusers and their behaviours.

Thank you! I never got into the books because they were terribly written (the first one was one of the few books I never bothered finishing, it was so bad), and when I saw the movie, I was shocked by how such an unhealthy and disturbing relationship was being glorified and packaged for impressionable teens as peak romance. Edward and even Jacob display HUGE abusive red flags, but this franchise normalizes and glamorizes them. I find it incredibly unsettling, and I was so glad to see someone else acknowledge it here in the comment section. Thank you.

Considering the content as the series progresses is perfectly understandable many parents would say "is not worth the entertainment, I don't want my kid (specifically for the sexual tension and scenes) exposed Bernstein there is better content for hormonal teens to consume & help them make better decisions during this time." That said I enjoy them & think they have a a great prolife message.

    Nailed it.
Forks, WA is near a temperate rainforest, so it's cool and rainy frequently but not like the arctic circle. It averages 23C-7C for daytime temperatures throughout the year. Its a really beautiful area of the US and the fact that the movie was largely filmed in a different part of the country is pretty annoying to me.

I went to see all the movies in the cinema but I was never a diehard fan. I also started reading the first book but I couldn't finish it (the movies are slightly better). The main issue I have with these movies is not the bad acting or the cringy lines but the fact that such unhealthy relationships are glorified and romanticised (like Fifty Shades which ironically was written as Twilight fan-fiction originally). It's SO problematic. Bella & Edward are also so incredibly boring. Bella is literally the most boring & useless character ever and Edward is boring & creepy. It baffles me how Edward's abusive stalker-y behaviour was considered not only normal but romantic. Jacob isn't that great either even though I think he's a more interesting character. And Charlie and the rest of the Cullen family. Even the villains. Pretty much all the other characters are more interesting than Bella & Edward and the stupid love triangle. These movies are a guilty pleasure though and the reactions to them are always fun.

When you feel up to it, one of the best, if not the best, vampire movies ever made is "Interview With the Vampire" (1994). It's a great movie by almost any metric, but watching it should not be undertaken lightly ;) For a lighter, more action oriented introduction, I would recommend "Van Helsing" (2004).

Twilight is a definite guilty pleasure of mine. I've read all the books, including the one written from Edward's pov, seen all the movies. Yeah, it's pure cringe sometimes, and it's more than just a dangerous romance, but... idk... there's also something about it. Then again I'm a bit of a sucker for the 'desperate longing' category of romance, so this definitely checks that box.
Hope you'll check out the rest of the movies as well, they umm- get weird. If you enjoyed this though, you'll probably enjoy the rest as well.
And don't worry about acting like a smitten teenager, that's the way these movies are supposed to be enjoyed imho lol

regarding the being attracted to someone who could kill you - 1) yeah that's kinda what dating any man feels like as a woman, this kind of genre is a way of exploring that fear but desire anyway in a safe way, 2) people-pleasing is a trauma symptom and sometimes attraction is actually relief of feeling safe when you finally convince someone intimidating to be nice to you, similar to Devil Wears Prada but also cute boys

But the one minor detail from the book I remembered is that the computer she used for research was an very old computer which was already there when she was a child and she didn't had the time jet to buy a new one...
