This film is hilarious!!! Such brilliant acting from a kid and his comedic timing had me in stitches! Also just a beautiful message about not taking what you have for granted. Perfect Christmas film! Enjoy :)

This is a classic! But the older I get, the more I realize how dysfunctional Kevin’s family is (he gets overlooked and scapegoated so much!). That scene with old man Marley in the church is unexpectedly deep for a film this cute, and a good lesson for parents trying to do right by their children.
The older I get the less I can handle the violence in the film. I basically just like the first half of the film
@@adrianhempfing2042me too
Same
I read that Old Man Marley played by late actor, Robert Blossom when Kevin went to church and meets Marley. It was not in original script by John Hughes. Director, Chris Columbus added those scenes plus, Marley meets and hugged his granddaughter.
@adrianhempfing2042 yet even though Kevin is told not to watch that film, it is considered so tame compared to what children are openly allowed to watch today
Marv's scream when Kevin puts the tarantula on his face is everything. 🤣
I would want to scream too but afraid spider will crawl in my mouth or bite me from loud scream
Aaah, yes. For those with arachnophobia, this is the worst scene imaginable!
@carriemilito2851 there's a good fun semi scary film called Arachnophobia. A good one to watch
I still place it slightly below Marv's scream in the sequel during the pigeon attack.
During the actual filming of the scene, he was actually completely silent to avoid frightening the spider. They added the scream in post.
One of the things I`ve noticed (and really appreciate) in this movie, is the symbolism with Marley`s (the old man) wounded hand. When Kevin meets him in the store, his hand is badly wounded. In church his hand is healing. And when he reunites with his family his hand is healed.
I’ve always wondered how he hurt his hand. It feels like a scene explaining that didn’t make it into the final cut
@@ButteredToast32 well he shovels outside in the snow, pretty easy to get how he got it. but dont think it matters much for the movie.
Simbolizims
I never clocked that!! 😮
Fun fact, the stunt fall that Harry does off of the front porch is now called The Home Alone Fall by stuntmen.
I’m sure people have commented this already but the three keys to Kevin getting left behind are:
1. Sleeping upstairs by himself (since he didn’t want to sleep with Fuller)
2. Spilled drinks on his plane ticket and passport that accidentally got thrown in the garbage in the chaos (meaning they wouldn’t see it at the airport and notice his absence)
3. Miscounting the neighbor’s child as Kevin (Mom lets her guard down believing everyone is accounted for)
It still is pretty crazy not one person noticed, but they do lay some decently good groundwork for it!
You forgot one, them losing power caused them to sleep in and panic and rush out the door.
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 Yes, most of all, the whole rush and panic. If they were on time they'd probably count less quickly and check everything more carefully.
You know I had never noticed his plane ticket and passport getting drinks spilled on them and thrown away. Always wondered why they didn't notice that when it came to check in. Thanks for pointing that out!
Also they were 17 people, an odd number. So driving to the airport everybody would just assume they were in the van with 8 people in it and that there were 9 in the other one.
Agree, it wasn't just "I forgot him"
Just recently Macaulay Culkin got his Hollywood Star Walk a Fame and his Movie Mom (Kate) was in attendance and spoke of her Movie Son (Kevin) and such. I read that If they see one another Macaulay would shout out "Mommy!" Catherine would reply back "Baby!" 💯I love the fact they kept in touch all these years. CONGRATULATIONS Macaulay Culkin. Home Alone 1 & 2 Lost in New York is one of my favorite Christmas 🎄 movies. BTW Great reaction from you and Merry Christmas Oscar from Winnipeg, Canada 🇨🇦
Oh that's *adorable* 😂
There is a sequel called Home Alone Lost in New York. Its as good as the original and has all the original cast.❤
13:01-13:03 I liked the first 2 home alone movies.
It's ok but it's no where near as good
@@dukehugh4835 you mean home alone 3-6?
I don’t know if I’d call Lost in New York as good as the original, but it is a fun watch.
His definitely seen home alone before 😂
Kevin McCallister walked so Jigsaw could run.😂
Exactly right. The themes of the movie are: "Don't take people for granted", and "Kids can be psycopaths too".
"Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a lack of conscience, pathologic lying, manipulative behaviour and often superficial charm"
While Kevin checks many boxes he def had a conscious.
@@orphanedhanyou Point taken. How about... terrifying future Jigsaw Killer?
Never go into your enemy’s domain
It always blows my mind when I hear that someone’s never seen the Home alone series. I take for granted that it’s been a Christmas must watch in my family since its release.
The first two are the only ones worth watching in my opinion, but I wish you luck if you decide to watch them all.
There is a minor cameo from an originating cast member in one of the later ones. It sounds like 3 was OK then after that a few were horrible and the last one just decent but still nothing compared to the original.
Home Alone 1 and 2 will forever be the best Christmas films. We watch both every single Christmas. Please react to the 2nd one!
Fun fact: The photo of Buzz's girlfriend is actually a boy because they didn't feel it would be right to say that about a girl's photo.
That’s what I find out.
Honestly… in that generation of kids that would explain a LOT about Buzz…
I'm shocked that you have never seen this one (Maybe it was the same as with HP movies, I'm sorry if I'm being ignorant). But I'm very excited to see your reaction to this one. Would also definitely recommend the second film, which is my favourite. :)
One of the best Christmas movies hands down! Still a classic 33 years later.
The second movie, Lost in New York, is equally iconic. 🎄
Happy Holidays from Canada. 🇨🇦🎊
You’re one of the first reactors I’ve seen get emotional at the ending which was so nice to see because I always cry too!! It’s that beautiful John Williams score and the snow and Marley…I’ve seen this movie a hundred times and somehow when that ending hits, I’m in tears everytime. And the movie is so funny and Christmas-y! I love how they decorated the house and most of the characters clothing in all red and greens. I didn’t notice it till much later but it adds that perfect holiday touch.
For me its the Song "Candles in the Window" that gets to me. I guess cause I am alone in the world and the song is about family and all that.
Yep. I tear up too, not seen many reactors tear on that scene.
The mom was a designer which is the only other acceptable reason for having mannequins in the house. I love your reaction! This is my favorite Christmas movie bc I always felt like Kevin growing up. Macaulay Caulkin who plays the boy just received his star on the walk of fame, and the mom in this movie was there and gave a speech.
It's beautiful to see John Candy in this. 30 years later I still miss that guy.
Me too
He was amazing.
John Candy appeared in this as a favor to the movie producers, and much of his dialogue with Kevin's Mom was ad libbed by him! Knowing all of that makes me appreciate his part all the more!
I think a lot of the times when old man Marley looks scary, we're seeing a representation of what Kevin, as a young kid with Buzz's claims about Marley in his mind, is imagining. An adult would see him as a kindly old man but Kevin believes him to be scary so that's all he sees whenever Marley looks at him.
26:14 Me too. But, he’s a nice guy.
You MUST react to 'Uncle Buck' a good John Candy comedy. It was Macaulay Culkin's debut. He was so good they created Kevin and Home Alone for him after it. John Candy's slob uncle character is genius.
Uncle buck a fun film
It’s an absolute brilliant classic of a movie. John Candy (God rest his beautiful soul) was nothing short of a comedic genius. His Uncle Buck character is a crass, lazy doofus, but he’s got a heart of gold. Candy injects the character with such tremendous, infectious warmth, you can’t help but love the guy & root for him. This, in addition to Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, along with Only the Lonely (…anyone who thinks John Candy can’t act, watch that film. Yes, it’s a lighthearted romantic comedy, but there are some very serious dramatic moments in it as well which proves Candy had genuine range & skill) are THE definitive performances he gave. He was taken from us far too soon.
Please watch & react to Uncle Buck and Only the Lonely, Oscar. You’ll truly have a wonderful time. 😊
28:58 you had mac & cheese ONCE!? Love your reaction, but I think that surprised me the most 😂
I'm not a Mac and cheese person either.
I wonder if there is a difference between usa vs australia on that
@adrianhempfing2042 I don't think it's very popular in Australia. I don't know anyone who eats it.
Also, Kraft isn't a popular brand here. It's usually referred to as the plastic cheese brand. Their treatment of local Bega Cheese probably didn't help their brand image either.
@@ImprovisionFilm agreed .
Especially Mac and cheese in a box , powdered cheese 🤮
Mac & Cheese is very popular in Australia. You can buy the Kraft one here as well as other packet versions, but most people I know make their own.
I don't understand how he's only eaten it once.
It's always been a major classic for many generations. Little bit of trivia the movie Kevin watches with the gangsters was actually created for this film it doesn't really exist
A lot of people like Home Alone 2 even better. Takes place in NYC. It’s more fun imo.
31:39 exactly.
Macaulay Culkin became a super star after this movie. Sadly, his overbearing parents ruined his career . He kind of got black balled in Hollywood because of the outrageous demands of his father. He has since gone on to more adult roles. You should watch him in Saved! It's a comedy set at a christian high school. Also if you haven't seen Uncle Buck he's in that with John Candy( Polka King in this one).
Chris Columbus: ok so this is a silly comedy about a kid left at home who defends his house from burglars during the holidays, the music doesnt have to be too crazy.
John Williams writing the title theme:
🔥🔥🔥✍️
seriously, the title track is so quirky and cool
As far as I remember, John Williams wrote a lot of music for Harry Potter, including the main theme.
If you try to compare Christmas music from HP and Home Alone, you will find a lot of similarities
Check this composition: ua-cam.com/video/RmXM11ozJmU/v-deo.htmlsi=Q8pjUu9DUcZfkSOn
I would think it is from HP but it's not:)
He didnt just write some Music, he wrote every bit of Music you hear from Film 1-3.
13:00 me too.
Not only do Home Alone and the early Harry Potter movies both have soundtracks by John Williams, but the first two movies of each series were directed by Chris Columbus.
Also, this was directed by Christopher Columbus, who would later direct Harry Potter and the sorcerer Stone.
Just watched this movie 5 days ago and maybe a fun short story to tell you: when watching the booby trap scene, my mom said she was laughing SO HARD, she thought she was going to *pee* her pants! 🤣🤣🤣
Compared to how I would react to a tarantula on my face, Marv is dealing with it like a champ.
Rest in peace

I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese.
"You guys give up? Or are you thirsty for more?"
Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hope Davis, Paula Newsome, Kristin Minter, and Tracy J. Connor.
Family Affair Fact: The boy who played Kevin's cousin Fuller is Macaulay Culkin's little brother Kieran Culkin in his feature film debut.
All In Fact: Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern felt indifferent about the movie's potential during shooting, so they intentionally gave over-the-top performances, neither one of them believed this movie would become a massive success.
Mrs. Doubtfire Award Fact: The picture Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) finds of Buzz's (Devin Ratray) girlfriend was a picture of a boy made up to look like a girl, because director Chris Columbus thought it would be too cruel to make fun of a girl like that. The boy that was used in the photo was art director Dan Webster's son.
What Script Fact: The line "You guys give up, or are you thirsty for more?" was improvised by Macaulay Culkin. Marv's lines "Why the hell are you dressed like a chicken?" and "Maybe he committed suicide?" were improvised by Daniel Stern. John Candy filmed his part in only one day, albeit a twenty-three-hour day. Almost all of his dialogue was improvised.
Thank You Very Much Fact: There is a legend that Elvis Presley (who died in 1977) made a cameo in this movie. Many of those who believe that Elvis is still alive maintained that the heavily bearded man standing in the background of the scene where Mrs. McCallister is shouting at the desk clerk (just before she meets John Candy) as Elvis. They asserted for years that the man is in the correct age range (Elvis would have been around 55 at the time), makes a head movement that Elvis frequently made during concerts, and that no record has ever been found about this particular actor's participation in the movie. The theory was finally debunked in 2018, when investigative journalists identified the extra as a man called Gary Richard Grott, who had passed away from a heart attack in February 2016. Grott's family was able to confirm that it was Grott in the movie, and also revealed that he had been working regularly as an extra on several Chris Columbus' movies, although Home Alone (1990) was the first one that he actually appeared in.
Thanks for all the facts! I only knew a few of them!
jessicalee5260 ...You're welcome! 😁
I truly do these comments for people who are cinematic lovers like me.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
This is one of the greatest movies told from the kid's point of view. It's why so much is incredibly absurd in the beginning. Watching it through his POV makes even the supermarket scene hilarious. Who knows what was real and what was his imagination? I don't!
John Candy is amazing....Uncle Buck and Cool Runnings is a must see.
Cool runnings is a fun film.
There is a new movie about to come out. Not a remake of it but also about unlikely athletes. Reminded me of Cool Runnings
I wait to hear Marv's scream every year. Another staple of the American canon. I have a 6-year-old boy who in looks and personality is a lot like Kevin, so he's obsessed with this movie. I knew it word for word before he was born, but now I think I've seen it more than the whole rest of my life combined. 😅
Snakes got blown away because he didn’t give Johnny the cheese pizza 🍕
😂
Home Alone2: Lost In New York is a must!
This is a classic for a reason ❤ Mccaughley Kulkin is/was absolutely adorable kid. Hilarious and wholesome, this movie will last through the ages. We're counting on you reactors to pass down these great films, tv, and music to YOUR kids, so our rich culture lives on and brings joy to the generations of the future 💙
Macaulay Culkin 😊
I think I read somewhere that the dad is an architect and the mother a fashion designer😊
That explains a lot.
Three quarters across the Atlantic and then... "KEVIN!!"
Macauley did such a great job in Uncle Buck (which you should definitely watch - John Candy) that they made this movie with him in mind. Fuller is Kiernan Culkin, his younger brother, who recently acted in the series Succession.
Kieran Culkin 😊
You should watch Little Rascals, it's another comedy with an entire ensemble of child actors and it's so funny and has the same looney tunes vibe as home alone
Roberts Blossom, gifted character actor, as the old neighbor. He actually retired at least once years before this but made a comeback in the 1970s that gave him a Second Act
26:26 I really missed him.
I'm surprised that your parents didn't show you this movie when you were younger. They are probably young enough to have grown up with it.
Me too! Me and my son's love this movie. I'm a French
The fact that you’ve only had macaroni and cheese once makes my heart sad. You’re gonna have to come over for dinner! Only a 20-hour flight!
The Polka Guy is John Candy. He and "Kevin" worked together on a movie called "Uncle Buck" (1989)
Naw I just realised they didn't get a scene together in Home Alone :-(
The first time Culkin sees Candy in Uncle buck was funny
With the way his family was, I'm surprised Kevin grew up as functional as he did. Hell, he's even smart and resourceful!
LOOOOL it WAS like a Tom and Jerry scream I've never thought of that 🤣
33:36 yep. 😂
13:11 not yet... 17:08 not yet... 29:33 not yet... 31:23 not yet... 33:38 the best scream!!!
Haha you "jumped" at those plane shots like I always do when I watch HA.
My sister has 10 kids and does a roll call in the car before they leave. Our parents once drove off and left that sister sitting in her baby carrier on the front porch at my grandparents but they realized it immediately and just drove around the block to find my grandmother waiting patiently beside the baby carrier.
A friend and I did see a woman pull out of a parking lot with a baby carrier on her roof. We pulled behind her at a stop light and my friend jumped out and ran up to the car, knocked on the window, and lifted down the carrier. The woman burst into tears while he buckled the baby in the back seat and kept thanking him. People were honking and I was so mad because it just made the woman more flustered. The whole thing took less than three minutes but people were so impatient.
That’s a miracle that the baby never fell of the top. Good on your friend for helping that lady out!
Glad you loved it. Seeing it as a kid was amazing. And yeah, my sis and I always wish he would’ve gotten to eat the mac and cheese 😂
It's never the same after being reheated 😢
Such a brilliant movie. Really timeless. I love your reaction too. You should react to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. It's one of the few reasonably good sequels.
John Williams did indeed do the score for this, along with Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Jaws, E.T., Superman and countless other beloved movie scores!
He’s my favorite musician.
@@nathancruz9172 one of mine as well. I was shocked to learn his son was the lead singer of the band Toto.
if it helps, i read somewhere that the prop Christmas ornaments at 32:28 were actually made of sugar 😅
Okay cool. Yeah sugar is often used as glas replacements in films.
But to me that sounds like Toffee which is still sharp :-(
BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE OF ALL TIME
Harry’s reaction to getting shot in the gut (29:31) & Marv’s delayed reaction to the nail will always get me (31:20) 😂
Change the G to an N there. Harry was shot a bit more down south ^^;
Kevin's screams in this movie are so iconic that they were kept in the Spanish dubbing and I think in most translations too.
Unfortunately Marv's scream was changed.
seeing this in the theater was one of the best film experiences of my life. the place was completely packed and every single person had a total blast. i will never be tired of this movie, ever ever ever. it is flawless.
John Williams was asked by the director Chris Columbus to do the soundtracks. The main melody is called Somewhere in my memory. The director and John Williams worked together on the first two Harry Potters. You should google all the movies John Williams scored. Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List and the War Horse. To name a few.
Pre 9/11 flying was very different. And I think it's speculated that the McCallisters were in politics and fashion or something insane. This was such a great, wholesome reaction.
The mom was a fashion designer, because in the attic or basement there were those mannequins that designer use, and it is believed that the Dad was in finance.
13:30 Yes, that's Mr. Heckles, actor Larry Hankin, he's been in a lot of things including Annie from 1982 which btw you should definitely watch.
I watched this high as a kite and it was a horror movie to me 😂
Absolute classic!! This is the first Christmas movie we watch every year, right after we finish (American) thanksgiving dinner and get the tree out ❤🌲 Glad you enjoyed it! The physical humor is so damn funny 😂
I hope you're doing Home Alone 2 too!
I love the kid in Uncle Buck.
Macaulay Culkin
John Williams did music for pretty much everything, yes Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, some of the Harry Potters, you name it.
First one is a classic but the second one is the best
The second one is also a must watch
Great reaction! 😊
This is one of my favorite, and one of my must-watch Christmas movies that I have to watch every Christmas season.
The end when Harry and Marv are going through the house of traps, and the scene before that with Kevin and his neighbor in the church have always been my two favorite scenes.
30:36 And yes. John Williams did do the music for "Star Wars". He also did the music for the Indiana Jones movies, and Jaws just to name a few.
I very highly recommend the 1992 sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York". It's just as, if not funnier than this one.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Yeah the Church scene . O holy night . Best part of the film.
True the Sequel is definitely good to watch. At least for Tim Curry.
I didn't bother with further sequels
You've got a few days to go. Just enough time to sneak in Home Alone 2. That's my favorite Christmas movie!

Fun fact: John Candy’s entire role/dialogue in this movie was completely improvised. He came up with the polka guy and made up all his dialogue on the fly.
Your sun kissed cheeks were a reminder that it's summer there. ☀️

Merry Christmas and thank you for taking the time to share these moments with us.
Thanks, Oscar! ☃ The great John Hughes wrote this one... and Chris Columbus directed. ෴ May your days be merry and bright... and your 2024 (and beyond) be peaceful and prosperous.
I wasn't left home like this, but I was left at a store once by my grandpa. He didn't realize. A friend's mom happened to come in, so I called home. When my grandpa got there, my grandma ran out and yelled at him to go back and get me.
Great one! Now do home alone 2 😁
I grew up on this movie. I've seen quite a few reactions to this Home Alone. This is probably my favorite movie reaction to it. I
can still remember seeing this in the movie theater with my older cousin when we were kids. LOL, Our grandma dropped us off at the movie theater and then picked us up later. I think my grandma and my aunts were doing after-Christmas shopping? It was definitely a different time because nobody thought anything of dropping a 9 yr old and an 11 yr old off at the movie theater and just bailing. The car ride home we were still laughing over this movie. I watch 1 and 2 every year. LOL even as an adult I think it total crap that Buzz never gets in trouble for stuff he does. Especially since he's way older than Kevin. Buzz irritates me.
You definitely should watch the sequel, Lost in New York at some point. You should also check out Uncle Buck, The Good Son, and, My girll. Oh and you should check out the movie Better watch Out.
Damn the old man stuff always gets me 😭😭😭
Me too.
Even if Christmas was taken out of this movie, it would still be one of the best family movies ever. So freaking entertaining too. Anyone going full on Mac Gyver to defend their homes are heroes in my book.
20:10 - In the book version, this couple leaves without helping Kate.
Home Alone 2 is still ny favorite. It was just to a next level haha

I'm with you on space being good for families. Choosing to spend time together when you miss people feels much better than being forced to 24/7. It is so hard when you are a kid and want that space.
