Monthly subscription streaming cost less than one new CD and new vinyl cost and the player fits in your pocket. Has the audio and video codec’s included. The parts shortage is definitely real. I work for a fortune 50 company and some of our suppliers are unable to get the necessary parts to fulfill orders for us, and our competitors.
Ah, “parts pandemic” … Last November, around or just after American Thanksgiving, I took my beloved Sansui TU-717 tuner to one of my preferred, local repair shops. This tuner sounds GLORIOUS, and yes, I love *RADIO* … analog OTA is special. Along with the unit, I supplied a small novel detailing the upgrades I wanted to be implemented. The tech who is working on the unit has been very engaged in this project; it’s obvious he’s excited about something that is more delicious than fixing another failed Samsung TV. But here we are, almost a year and the *last* critical part has been shipped. Over a month ago, maybe two months. Who knows where it is? Is it in customs purgatory? Previous parts shipments have been similarly delayed, so I’m hoping this shipment will eventually pop up from under the river Styx. But no, I’m not holding my breath.
In Australia we have had huge major floods in our food growing areas. The effects are hitting already & it’s going to be significant. So there are product shortages across most industries & significant labour shortages.

@@RJ-vy4yd as you might know it all depends on system for sound quality it's not just one single component but I am using a naim cds3 player with focal sopra 2 nac 552 naim nap 300dr, 555ps supercap all dr so sound quality as a whole is system dependent I am looking at a second system so I just might go for ps audio.

I had worked in high tech manufacturing and the way it seems you might be able to handle the issue is with multiple sourcing but more importantly move away from a single supplier. As you've seen one source can be a company ender if you have too many products relying on that single source. Pandemic or not the issues with deliveries can and usually do raise their ugly head.

Because that's how the unit (transport) operates. It reads the incoming info and stores it for a very short period of time and then plays the info. My first reply was a straightforward statement and question. In your reply, you were still confused, and my advice was to research. I have found manufacturers typically only producing volume with their low end lines. Anything high end more one off at request only. I am having to wait 6 weeks to get my Rossini DCS - CD- SACD transport. I had cheap NAD before CD player when building my system a few years ago and it was junk. As I upgraded other system parts I wanted quality. Sometimes old CD recording way better than what they transcribed on Roon with Qbuz. Have few hundred CD's nothing too wild.
I'd love a cd player from y'all. Something small and not too expensive, I hope. Maybe paired with a matching dac. Again, small and not too expensive. The kinda thing a novice like me would be happy to fork out for, knowing that it's top quality and reliable, a one-time purchase. Not sure if you were being sarcastic but this is a contradiction. One would think streaming music would be considerably better for the environment than a CD, which has a virtually non-degradable polyurethane casing with a layer of (mined) aluminum. But of course you know that. 🎉
I think I agree with you, but if you take into consideration the power and manufacturing energy consumption of the vast network of computers and support needed to handle, say, an email - I'm not so sure? Also, if you claim CDs sound better than streaming, you're either deaf or using Spotify or UA-cam Music with their pathetic bitrates as basically every other streaming service I know of has lossless quality already, which simply cannot physically sound worse than CD - quite the opposite, it's rare for a CD to give you data perfect to the last bit, which is what those services do.

Hopefully the cd player will have optical and coaxial inputs so it can be used with a streamer. Also a cd draw would be nice rather than a slot. Slots have a reputation for scratching cds. Like to see it sooner than later.
Almost all expensive higher model CD players nowadays only have a cheap CD mechanism, driveline of the cheapest type. Even top models nowadays have offte as bad as those sitting in the cheapest cd players!! I own a shengya cd-16 cd plays where there is a CHEAP cd mechanism, dtrvline of the cheapest type. Same with all other of today's high-end CD players! Hope ps audio doesn't go this way like everyone else does.

All CD player can do is to introduce some flaws to that. Yes, better and more expensive CD player will have less and less of them but still, in a best-case scenario it can deliver the very same data as in that flac file, which as opposed to CDs will not degrade over time, and in every other scenario it will be worse than that. So seriously - what would be a point of getting a CD player if you're a music enthusiast that cares about audio quality? I don't get it, I can see none, except for maybe a sentiment but if you value a sentiment more than audio quality, you're not really someone who cares about audio quality. I have around 3000 CDs ripped to FLAC and wav files on an external SSD drive. For convenience I play the FLAC files and just enjoy the music instead of screwing around with some ritual. The CDs are on display racks and I play them on occasion on my CD player (Rotel CD11 Tribute) when I want to feel a little nostalgic. I can't beat the convenience of having those CDs ripped. I also download Hi Res FLAC files from Qobuz or Presto Jazz, I do not stream. The CDs are nice decoration in my man cave but they most certainly don't sound any better than playing FLAC on my media player (Cambridge Azure 851N). I also think this whole high end CD transport thing is over hyped. As for vinyl, forget about it; I got rid of those years ago.

It will not play SACDs but it will handle DSD if you put in a datadisc. It will also play the CD layer on an SACD, just not the encrypted DSD layer.

I record at 24 bit 48 Khz. Its certainly better than CD red book 44.1 Khz 16 bit. Its the difference between fine silk and cotton denim.

They get even more sure of themselves, when it comes to politics. (PS: Those gate keeping measures aren't working very well, you'll be glad to know, Neil. A quick seach on a well known market place website, revealed plenty of personal CD players still being offered. There is always hope, though, that Putin could be recruited to help stop the sale of personal CD players. On second thought, with the amount of young men leaving Russia, gate keeping may not be his forte. Well, there's alway Xi.)
