Glenn Johnson Totally unaware this existed.Brilliant.Love George formby and how about Chas McDevitt, who i worked with back in the early 80`s.How wonderful this has been preserved.
George Formby seems on top form in this show despite being in poor health in the last decade of his life. TV got him just in time. Sadly Formby died in 1961 but his mother (Eliza Booth) outlived GF by 20 years, dying aged 101 in 1981
The great George Formby. Still singing and playing after what must have been 40+ years on the boards. A superb entertainer and a fine human being. This is live TV and he can still turn it on. Rob Harper GFS member.
In this 1959 recording, the guitarist on the left with Chas McDevitt's Skiffle Group is the famous Bill Bramwell. Hear him scat singing along with his guitar solo - a technique he also used in his famous theme for ABC TV's "Candid Camera". I'e never seen a piece of film of him before. His Gibson L-10 has what looks like a custom-made pickup.
Did anyone notice Gene March in the group of young people in this video. Gene Marsh wrote Upstairs Downstairs. If you didn't take a second look she's there. Anytime I can see George Formby is A+. Even as an older man he still had that twinkle in his eye and that smile Redman
Thanks Gerry. What a gem you've posted, its lovely to see something that we've never seen before. How about posting some tips of where to find the filming locations of Keep fit !
He could only play chord forms in one key, that's why he had several different banjo ukes all tuned in different keys. Each one was labeled with the song title that it was played for. No kidding 🤓
how about that....two Warringtonian stars on the same show. George Formby from Stockton Heath village and Edna Savage from 3 streets away in Latchford village.
That girl with the long hair opening the doors; is it Jean Marsh? Just wondered. (Jean Marsh or 'Rose' in 'Upstairs Downstairs'). (Amongst other things).
I think they chose the wrong dour the beardy bloke was wrotten, love George and his movies, instead of all the reality crap and soaps why not Formby films

You mean Jean Marsh? I recognized her as well.
I was even more amazed to see her in a 1960 episode of the Twilight Zone
Lovely to see and hear Edna Savage .
There are more than dozens there are hundreds....none are gone. They are played every week at various branch meetings of the George Formby Society

I wish George would have played with Chas McDevitt's band. That would have been terrific.
A real star not many around like him now.

4:00 - The banker likes to come out at night and PLAY gee-tar! This guys are a-rockin'!
22:06 Brilliant recovery when a string jumps out of the nut!
He's a vice fella. Very cheerful.
Well I guess that's the first washboard solo I've heard.
I always thought that he was a great instrumentalist, but watching him here is that he was trapped in first position and remained in cowboy space.

George was born in WIGAN, LANCASHIRE on 26TH May 1904 and always regarded himself a Wiganer
Sure Was 3 Westminster St Wigan
What he says and where he was born are very different to where he lived and made his home...and is at rest.
Jean Marsh among college kids!
Interesting to see a young Jean Marsh (Rose in "Upstairs Downstairs") as one of the "music students".
I'm glad someone besides me noticed Miss March
Gerry, thank you for posting this. I cannot watch George without smiling!
George from 16.32
if I am not mistaken the lady with the long hair at the beginning is a young Jean Marsh
Thanks for the post Gerry. I don't think Edna was dancing with Terry Dean, her husband there.
Chas mcdevitt was calling bingo at potters holiday camp early 80 s
they recorded "Freight Train" didn't they? I got the 78 of it
