Pablo my bias..❤ I admire him so much Determinado is a masterpiece
His lyrics are always thought-provoking. His beats may sometimes be not my cup of tea but his genius is undeniable. A few liatens to this and I find my head bopping to the beat.
JOSUE is pronounced as “ho-sweh”, and yes, it was him rapping the whole time until PABLO came in for his verse. Girl, when you watch La Luna, keep in mind that it was released before this (though Pablo already won an international award for this in 2021). I think, story- and journey-wise, La Luna goes before Determinado.
Some explanations of untranslated words-This is my interpretation and I’m unsure if PABLO explained this anywhere.
I’ll do Ippo, Dempsey Roll, and Aeolus together.
First, in Tagalog, “hipo-hipo”/“ipo-ipo” is the word for whirlwind or tornado. Keep that in mind and set it aside for now.
The translation/CC for that part of JOSUE’s verses says “I’m the equivalent of two Ippos (Makunouchi)”. Ippo Makunouchi is the titular character in the boxing anime Hajime no Ippo. But the original Filipino lyrics say “ipo” instead of “Ippo”- so this is wordplay nodding to ipo-ipo, whirlwind.
Then, “every punch has the weight of a hippo” - continuing the boxing metaphor. (And also, hipo-hipo: whirlwind!)
Now, Aeolus. Josue says “Even Aeolus can’t touch me”. In Greek Mythology Aeolus rules the winds, so basically, JOSUE’s got the boxing metaphor going and at the same time saying, “The ruler of winds can’t touch me- the whirlwind”.
The next line mentions the Dempsey Roll, which is a real-life boxing technique used by Ippo Makunouchi, thus going back to the boxing metaphor. It involves a quick flurry of movements/hooks to overwhelm a larger opponent. (So quick that the god of wind can’t touch you.)
Now, Prometheus. In Greek mythology, Prometheus is a god of fire, highly intellectual, a master craftsman, the “Forethinker”. PABLO says he’s not a god, but his fire is immortal, he changes forms when you make his head a target… showoffs will be roasted and burned…writings ablaze… [the showoffs] can never take the heat”. He says he’s the Prometheus of music and goodness gracious he so very much is, indeed. 🔥 🔥 🔥

FYI- this song won from DJOOKY MUSIC AWARDS in 2021 here in the US. He won COMPOSER OF THE YEAR.
Had received $20,000. But, I'm sure he used to produce an SB19 song.
Basically, he just officially just released this song this year, 2024.

Ippo dimpsyrol was from japanese animae hajime no ippo a boxer who have full determination and perseverance to achieve her goal. Word play ippo/hippo.
The first time I heard this song, i got the same feeling as you did - it felt eerie because of the gregorian chant. But then as you go further into the song it became more apparent that it goes beyond that. The lyrics are again not your typical superficial words thrown into lines and verses and choruses. They are well thought of and even made references to Greek gods, boxing or anime and that tells you that Pablo is a wide reader. He made me search Aeolus and Dempsey roll.. lol.. They said Pablo is breaking the norm as he mixed different genres in one song blurring differences between hip-hop, rap and rock. It was fun watching you reaction :)

That creepy sound you were referring to is called a Gregorian Chant. This was being sang in churches during the middle ages. Not sure but it may have been originated by the Benedictine monks. The Gregorian Chant actually enjoyed a short-lived craze in the music scene in the mid-1990s.
Yes the mv is already out. As a solo artist, his songs are dark and heavy on the rap.

This song is a masterpiece. For a newbie, it is really hard to figure who sings which part. The first verse is Josue (hos-we), second verse is Pablo and the last part was both of them alternately. As they said, Josue is the growling wolf and Pablo is the hawling wolf😅. I feel like my throat hurts everytime I am at the end part of the song😂. Such a talented family. I’m so happy for the brothers that they’re getting collab in this way. They’ve already been co-producing for a long time but it’s cool they’ve released this song together. You’ll find Josue’s name as producer in a good number of SB19’s song.
