You should check out Midco Mo. It a ghost town that sits behind Fremont. It use to produce about 80% of the steel during the war and it's pretty creepy.

Very nice! Does BNSF run though there at all or are they abandon tracks? That quarry is really cool too.

+BNSFguy 617 Hi! Thank you! Yes, (unfortunately) all of the trackage to Phenix was abandoned by the Frisco back in the 1940s. The closet tracks to the quarry now would be the BNSF mainline in Ash Grove, about 5 miles to the south.

Ah, it would have been pretty cool if those quarry tracks were still used.

Is the building behind the depot the company store or what is it? The house beside of it for the quarry boss right? Does the man that is there now still cut rock from the quarry or is there enough stockpiled that he doesn't have to? Being this is from 2015 is he still working there now?

Hello! Yes, you are correct…the building behind the depot was indeed the company store and post office. You’re also right about the house for the big boss! Even though the buildings were made of limestone and meant to last “forever,” the company sold the buildings when the quarry closed. The structures were taken apart, and most of the material was trucked to Springfield and used in new buildings being constructed.

@@MainTrack Well it's good the stone was used but sad that the buildings there were taken down.

I do believe this quarry produced the new York stock exchange building.
