I rarely hear a quote that actually resonates with me. I've adopted this as a mindset to help with my people pleasing and anxious personality, obsessing over first impressions and doubting myself. So uplifting for me!
This scene is easily the best in the series. This scene will never be ursurped of that title. As time goes on I genuinely believe this will be referenced as one of the greatest scenes in t.v history. It's heartbreaking, heartwarming and massively inspiring while also stimulating introspection of ones self in a way that is nothing short of absolutely profound. Merely thinking of this scene gets the waterworks going. This scene in and of itself makes me completely, earnestly want to be a better person. Not just the idea that I should, but the actual willingness and want to be a better, more caring person than I currently am
Notice prior to Ted's monologue, Rebecca looks down at her watch. But once he begins, her attention increases when he talks about his dad's passing. Perhaps this is the first time she begins to comprehend what Ted is all about. That brief glimpse in the background, present but subtle.
I feel like, in that look, we also see the final nail in the coffin of her revenge plot. Cause in the next episode, right when we see her hurt again by Rupert, and we're sure she's going to double down on her cruel game, she instead confesses the truth.
I can't begin to explain how this particular scene changed my life. I am achiever but I always felt I was up against a wall, feeling depressed and burnt out. My wife to cheer me up put this series. Although the series in itself is amazing, every word in the clip resonates with me. You gave me something to hold on that day that will remain with me for ever. For the one who wrote these lines. You made me peaceful ✌ from inside. You made me change the way I see the world. Just that Ted saw it on the board and I saw it in this clip.
I’ll never tire of this scene, perfect in every way. It is truly one of the most beautiful moments in TV, resonating far beyond a sweet, quirky series. This scene is canon & the show, Ted Lasso, a master class of quality TV.
Legit makes me ugly cry and I'm a fully grown man lol. This scene has a certain power to it that, in years to come, will be looked at as one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in t.v history. The brilliance of this scene cannot be properly described in words. Only in our collective tears can this scene be properly appreciated.
agree with miss mabel, and also note that Rupert isn't the only one that has underestimated Ted. Likely everyone other than Coach, including Rebecca. In that instant she glimpses his life and journey and all that. Trent Crimm got it over the course of a day. Keeley and Nate got it early, and Jamie got it in a note on the bus.
0:22 “You know Rupert, guys have underestimated me my entire life, and for years I never understood why, it used to really bother me. But then one day I was driving my little boy to school and I saw this quote by Walt Whitman, it was painted on the wall there it said “Be Curious, not judgemental” and I liked that. So I get back in my car and I’m driving to work and all of the sudden it hits me… All them fellas that used to belittle me..not a single one of them were curious. You know they thought they had everything all figured out so they judged everything.. and they judged everyone. And I realized that their underestimating me..phew..who I was had nothing to do with it. Cause if they were curious they’d ask questions you know? Questions like “have you played a lot of darts, Ted?” Which I would have answered “yes sir, every Sunday afternoon at a sports bar with my father from age 10 to 16 when he passed away”
There is a tweet by Ted Lasso where he says if you're about to take a winning shot, think of something that makes you smile. He also said in an earlier episode, BBQ sauce is the thing that reminds him of home/Kansas, which ties into the story about his father he’s telling while playing darts.
This was one of the many scenes from the show that changed my life! Bout to get my first tattoo, and it’s gonna be the believe sign, along with the quote “be curious, not judgmental” from this scene. The only thing I’m trying to figure out is if I’m going to use the torn up version of the sign or the smooth version before it got ripped
Doesn't he say it because he was speaking to Rebecca earlier in the season about what food reminds her of her childhood and kept getting cut off? I thought this was him saying the food that reminded him of childhood, playing darts, his dad, etc..
Nope, the game they were playing requires you to win by the exact amount needed. Hitting three Bullseyes instead of 1 bull and 2 triple 20s would leave him 20 points short. Also, Bullseyes are much easier to consistently hit than triple 20s.
@@Beorn19 professional players, even the best in the world, left with treble treble 20, treble 20, and to end with a bullseye, their odds would probably be over 1/50.
This is season 1, episode 8, since "Ted Lasso Reacts" can't be bothered to provide a shred of info, except for how to buy their unlicensed, bootleg crap merch.
Rupert was curious tho. He literally asks him if he likes to play darts then Ted lies and tells him he's more of a cornhole guy then later says he played darts for years. TED LASSO SITS ON A THRONE OF LIES
He said he didn't like to play, not that he couldn't. Something he and his dad did, for six years, up till he passed? Probably couldn't even look at darts without thinking of him. It's hard to like something that reminds you of the hole in your heart caused by losing someone.

The show is amazing for quirky little moments like that.
They were probably on their 30th take of the scene
Still makes me sad when he says “from age ten ‘till I was sixteen when he passed away.”
Specially now with the reveal
Rebecca's expression when he said that seems to suggest that was the first time she learned about that.
@@Oakshield2 I know right. Going back to that line after learning how his dad died hurts.
This line as well as the Richmond Tryout speech and the “being sad by not alone” got me misty.
The delivery of "barbeque sauce", full of memory and longing is also just perfect

One of the best moments of any show I’ve seen, love it

This scene hits so much harder when you have seen all of Ted’s story.
Scenes like this turn what would have been an alright show into one of the best out there.
I shared this everyone. I have a friend who is a guidance counselor who uses this scene with her kids. It has become part of my personal philosophy.
My favorite scene of the whole season 🥰
There were so many, but yes, this one tops them all. 👍🏻
100% correct. In a season full of great moments, this is the best.
Same here
BBQ sauce..

Watched this show for comedy but it was more than that❤️
Excited for 2nd season 🎉

I love how proud Mae looks while Ted is talking😊😂 Like a proud mother who knows she did a good job raising her child lol
Whenever I know about to win something I quietly smile and quip “barbecue sauce.”
This is the scene that just solidified the series for me. It just really resonates with me ❤
Whenever someone is negative to me, I think of this quote from Ted Lasso.
The Man City episode makes this beautiful and heart breaking

He says Barbecue sauce because
