How I Clean Cymbals (Brasso method)

- In this video I'm showing you how I clean my cymbals using Brasso and White Spirits. There are less 'harsh' methods of cleaning cymbals but I find this works well for really tarnished ones - just be careful around the logo. In this example I'm cleaning 2 cymbals - a Zildjian 17" K Custom Hybrid China and a 10" Zildjian splash that I can't for the life of me remember the model of! I think it's an Edge. Excellent video thank you! I'm in the middle of cleaning some vintage Amati hats with Brasso. I didn't think about using white spirit to finish the job. Will do now. Cheers. :-)
I tried cleaning my cymbals with my own Brasso method but realised its to much time-taking and requires so much energy. Your video is very helpful. Thanks for every detail and information you provided. I can't wait to try this on my left out cymbals today with your method. You earned a sub! Keep it up...
Great work. I found that your helpful video works. My cymbals have come up like new and you've earned a well deserved 'like'.
What music are you listening to in the background? I love Hammond Music like that and haven't been able to locate proper artists or a genre. Thanks and nice work on the cymbals, I find this method also works the best.
If you skip to the end credits there's details there - just UA-cam royalty-free stuff. 👍👍
that 'muck' is oxide from the cymbal.
In theory if you keep polishing with a cleaner you'll eventually rub right through. :o
Can I use white vinegar instead of the white spirits
In the last part of the video, the high speed clean, it's brasso then spirits then a dry rag for the last bit? About to clean my sabian XS20, not fussed about the logo because I don't like it anyway
Yup, Brasso for the main clean and polish, White Spirits to get the residue off and dry rag for the final polish.
Is there a reason for using white spirit after the polish? Is it not better to use a cleaner first then polish? Just asking, have no idea
I find the white spirits can draw dirt out of the tiny grooves and leaves an even final look. Otherwise you can be in a never-ending cycle with the pollish.
any tips on cleaning natural finish cymbals? ive heard bad thing about using Polish on natural finish
Yes - don't clean them! :-) Depends on the cymbal but I wouldn't advise using polish on a natural finish. Perhaps very mild soapy warm water to get finger marks off and a thorough dry afterwards.
um... what's the difference between traditional and natural?
Called brasso here boss lol
what is white spirits? is that mineral spirits?
What exactly are in white spirits?
Oil paint thinner...forgot the exact name. Brits have goofy names for names of things I cannot remember. HAha!
I just wash my traditional finish cymbals at the shower with soap and worls just fine to maintain it clean.
You're a dumbass
Worls?
Kitchen roll? Can't say I've ever heard that before.
Its a bri-ish expression
Paper..mother trucking,..TOWELS, lol.
and the logo disappear
Good. F the logo.
Warning to any drummers, using Brasso is not a good idea. . It's far too abrasive, just look at how much metal is on the cloth when you use it. It also flattens, softens and changes the shape of the tonal grooves. Of course it will clean the dirtiest of cymbals, but at a cost. Learn to live with the tarnished cymbals, keep them clean with standard washing-up liquid to remove loose dirt and grease. Don't waste your money on branded cymbals cleaners, they are now only cymbal polish. Legislation has made the use of old style cymbal cleaners impossible. NEVER use Brasso on new cymbals with protective coatings, just use a soft cloth to remove greasy finger marks. Try using gloves when setting up and breaking down your drum set.
