Alfred Belo is indeed buried in Salem Cemetery here in Winston-Salem. His roots were with the Moravians who settled this area. Earlier in the war he fought a duel with an officer of another regiment who had disparaged the 55th. He was also a friend of Pres. Grover Cleveland.
