Perfect soundtrack. I have had so many nightmares about diving off Long Beach. This gives me the friggin creeps. If nothing else, it makes me crave a hot shower, after watching people swimming in the LA river runoff and sewage leak water.
I always love diving here in the same area. But everytime we go, I and my friends don't come to a conclusion if it is legal to dive inside of habor. And they don't even make it clear everywhere online and websites. Is it okay????
You are entitled to your opinion JJ Go, hunting Halibut that are over the 30 inch mark is a honorable practice. California law states, the fish must be over 22 inches. This Halibut measured just over 23 inches. The fish was filleted with little to no meat leftover, which fed several families for several days. I'd kindly ask you to continue your UA-cam video protest elsewhere.
Thanks for that video! I fish the break wall often so it’s nice to see what’s going on down there. I’d like to get into scuba. Any recommendations on where in LB area to get my PADI?
I did the classroom portion in Dana Point and the pool dives and ocean dives done in Laguna Beach. I went through Beach Cities Scuba, finally Laguna Sea Sports. Had no complaints about them, they really worked with me when I had issues taking my mask off and continuing to use the regulator.
Louis M it has been a good amount of years since I got certified. I had to do some brief classroom training (like two nights) and then practical skills in a pool, followed by ocean dives.
SCUBA or Freediving, doesn’t matter which form of diving you do, you can spear fish. I’ve done both, many elitists feel SCUBA diving is an unfair advantage and frown upon it. I only spear what I am going to consume and feed my family with so it shouldn’t matter how I catch them. One could say fishing above water is cheating because you’re not actively hunting in their environment your dangling pretend food in front of their faces to entice them. This is the internet, everyone’s got some sort of an opinion on the matter.
Rand Marino it’s not illegal, it’s frowned upon, by some, amongst the diving community because of the unfair advantages with supplied air versus free diving.
Shake your head... What do you have to say about all the commercial fisherman that use nets and traps to collect mass quantities of fish. I may not be free-diving but at least I'm down there with them where they hold a chance of evading my spear. Plus the exhaled bubbles scare most of the fish away, so Scuba diving and spearfishing can be challenging at times. But you are entitled to your opinion.
GREAT SHOT ON THE HALIBUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for sharing

Brandon Shanholtzer when you say classroom, is that in lieu of the PADI eLearning or in addition to it?

thats amazing have you ever stumbled into something bigger than you
hey can I use some of this footage for a student project pretty please?
you missed and reload and shoot it again! lol nice hali bro!
I didn’t think you can spear on scuba here. I thought it was all done freediving.

Hi was it inside of break wall or out side?
MrSupersushiboy it was inside the break wall.
Coming out of shoreline near the Queen Mary you head to the first opening it was on the south jetty.
So its a middle breakwall?
The furthest west opening is Angels gate then the opening south of the Queen Mary is where I was. On google maps.
So many sea urchins down there. Other than that great vid.
There's nothing really big down there anymore
NOT true - Have personally seen 10lb+ Sheephead and BIG sea bass within the last few months.
If anything the giant halibut should be left to breed. They must kick out thousands of eggs. The smaller ones are great eats.
Im not trying to be a dick or anything, but how do you find enjoyment in just shooting fish? Theirs no fight to them, and its just to easy?
That random white guy it’s harder then you would think, just like hunting deer or something like that
I only keep halibut that are over 30 inches. They do not start breeding until they are several feet long
isnt it illegal to scuba and spearfish....
Rand Marino it’s not illegal, it’s frowned upon, by some, amongst the diving community because of the unfair advantages with supplied air versus free diving.
nice barely legal!!!
JJ Go bullshit sounds like a pure hater..! He has a 30”+ fish and was way beyond legal don’t bash someone’s catch..
scuba while spearfishing? smh
