I've heard this music so many times, but it still gives me goosebumps. I find it truly incredible how someone can create a story into a music composition. The eerieness of the violin, the harp indicating a clock that announces it's twelve midnight, how it all picks up pace and becomes very energetic. If i close my eyes i can truly see the dead dancing and see death itself playing the violin.
The tritone call of the leader of the ghosts (the violin) to dance, the rooster's cock-a-doodle-doo at the crack of dawn which send shivers down the skeletons' spines, the fugal development, and superimposition of the two themes at the climax (after the trumpets and before the stretto)!
A don't know what story you are talking about. But definitely something happened in the past to make me create this composition par of the "fossils" in th carnival of animals.
In my opinion, by far the best interpretation I've heard yet (of a dozen +.) Masterfully done. I'd like to see the Nagano and Montréal rendition of Sibelius, Symphony No. 5.
So true, when i heard this performance for the first time it moved me so much, because it was like hearing the original studio version for the first time again. Kent and the orchestra did an amazing job and just nailed it!!!
1:30 I always love the violins coming together at this time!!! It always sounds like dancing goblins and demons coming from Hell and they start dancing around the fire and it comes together so beautifully!! :)
maestro kent nagano projects his natural charm not only on the orchestra and soloist under his, conductor's baton - he enchants the whole public in the hall and those looking, listening in front of cmp's screen.
My distant relative Camille did a pretty good job with this thing but I don't think he intended the solo violin to stand for such an insignificant solo as this. Anyway, I've never seen it done this way. Next time, have the concertmaster wear a devilish outfit too.

My taste in music has changed over the years. From hard rock to classical. I'm 73 years old now. By far classical and waltz music I love these days.

I swear this a Vampire theme piece. Its haunting. Sorrowful. Chaotic. Slight horror. Elusive. Above all its beautiful and so attractive.
