I enjoy watching your videos. You have taught me allot about crappie fishing this year. I fish lake Cypress ,Tawakoni , Fork and lake Bob Sandlin mainly. I am fixing to put out some brush piles in lake Cypress Springs . There is just very little structure that I have found in that lake. I'm am also learning how to fish with my Garmin live and it is a learning curve for sure. Triggering the bite when they are not cooperating is a art. Lol Thank you for all your teaching and help. I pray your blessed more than you can ask or think.
I love every minute of it! Caught my first crappie today (11") out on Hubbard. Yes! it deserved it's, Heehaw!! 😀 Thank You for all your instruction and juicy little tid bits! God bless
We do that here in Louisiana. But we tie dogfood cans with a few holes in them to get the grass shrimp to come to the Bush and the crappie come to eat the shrimp
My comment is I need to be with you and Cowboy Roy... You guys look like you're having so much fun... I sure wish Southern California had some lakes and ponds readily available like you have in Texas.... Blessings to you both and your families.
You got it going.... I appreciate your effort.... this coming from one known as the beaver in Ozawkie , Ks. I have unbelievable structures of habitat that might interest you . Videos to be shared. Thanks again...
Dear Fishin' Ken, I am new to the channel, but I really enjoy it, especially your trips with Hook City. My dad did the same for me when I was 4 to 5 years. I still get out to the lake bank from time to time, but not often, I can't eat fish anymore, body changes as we get older, but there is no other feeling as good as getting that hit to your line and you know there's a fish coming to visit. My favorite videos are the catch, clean, and cook. You are a wonderful vacation from the political videos. Don't get me wrong, I will continue to watch the changing times, it is always best to keep up, but M.O. is right, if you don't watch out, it can be a severe downer on your mood to not get some variety. And, some of us don't have any choice about not watching the bad stuff, as I am a front line worker. So, thank you for the fishing trips, they make my day!
I've been taught to use really bushy shrubs or tree limbs laying down so bait fish can live in them and put off scent to keep crappie intrigued. Fish just above the pile. As you said, put the piles in different areas and different depths, but always on something unusual, such as drop-offs, points, etc.
Lay downs work well also. Standing timber is prevalent in a lot of lakes here in Texas and the fish set up on, in and around them. Thats why we put standing and laying brush out! Thanks for watching...
Hey man so here in bama we have those winter floods and I think you should make a statement about that if a flood comes in a lake on a river system the brush may wash away so if you or anyone has a dock on a lake on a river system they may need to tie the pile to the dock.
We make ours the same way except for using cinder blocks. Instead we use flood control sand bags. They cost .50cents. Fill them with sand on the bank. They work great. Awesome video!
Nice. Y'all just gave me an idea on how to drop my brush piles now. Never thought of using zip ties. I usually get cinder blocks and add concrete mix. Your way is much quicker and less expensive too. I will give it a try.
Black pine or beech trees seem to work awesome I wait till winter when the lake is down that puts most of them in 6 to 8 feet of water , I've caught crappiest off them before the water totally covers them, but be warned if you have any beaver in your area they will chew them up ( green fresh cut ) I use lashing wire that the telephone companies use it wont rust
Thanks for the video I am getting ready to drop about 50 hotel in Laurel Lake here in Kentucky. I have not found any cover except one dock and a bridge to fish around. Should I look for points in around 20 ft of water to drop them as well as some in shallow water.
Depending on how much water that lake holds year round. 20ft is a great depth and I tend to find 12-20 foot of water on points and in the mouths of creeks and coves.
Hey man I always enjoy your videos!! Just wanted to add my 2 cents on brush piles. The crappie seem to love a combo of Williow and Bamboo if you have that available to you. Keep those crappie videos coming !!
I was laughing so hard, you two making those tree limb structures tie then to a concrete block to sink it, then toss it overboard and I thinking along a ledge in water deep enough to where the top is a few feet underwater, but nooo, most of the pile of limbs are visible, lol, lol, lol, too funny, omg, lol
what do you throw though around these types of piles where you dont get hung up every cast.. i do texas rigged weightless senkos for largemouth.. but what for crappie around the brush piles. so one time i was on a rental.. and i saw a decent crappie tight in a thick bush.. i had a little hair jig.. i threw it on the sides the crappie never move or even care.. i use light line.. but im like dude i want to catch that fish. so i threw it in the bush at the top and as soon as bait hit the water blamo.. but ya luckily i didnt get snagged. and man that fish was picky.. i tried lots of cast around the bush ect before i risked throwing into it.. but ya that was a big learning experience when i learned.. just a very small change in a cast cant produce big results that you would never expect casting in a area if you couldnt see that or experience it. and how often will someone throw into the top of a bush like that when like 99% of time you will be snagged and lose bait. but you can get big hidden fish like that.
in bushy areas its best to try two methods. 1. Vertical jigging. Thats why we use long rods for this technique. The other is using a float just above your jig. Set the depth accordingly so you dont get snagged
I absolutely love your videos. I was just talking to my husband and I was wondering do you allow people to come to your city to tag alongside and fish? Me and my husband would love to. Also, this would be our 1st time crappie fishing. We fish alot for bluegill. But, I want to fish for crappie.
Thank you for the support. At the moment I dont do any guiding. Looking forward to in the future. When everything gets set up ill be making the announcement in the videos
Hey Ken I don't know if it's true or not but someone's told me after you throw brush into water especially greenbrush you can fish it for the first week then leave it alone for 2 to 3 weeks as the green matter decomposes the fish will tend not to be there and after the third week when the matter has decomposed supposedly the fish will come back maybe you can use your livescope to check this out to find out if it's true or not . thanks for a great video Ken
Use less trunk of the tree material and more of the spreading branches. That way the structure is submerged and the fish are allowed to choose a depth of security within the branches without having to come near the surface. Also, boat trolling motors won't have to deal with them (or outboards).
Great suggestion. With the depth of water we had to work with we had that conversation after initially dropping them. I may add another brick later and lay it down. Thanks man
Bro i hear a lot about Texas, i hate it here so much in NJ man... nothing but freakin work and shitty ass waterways!!! Great video btw brother! SUBBED*
My thoughts weren't to make spots for everyone. Also, in some public waters it's OK to place brush but it must be a certain depth of water as to not create an underwater obstruction that can hurt someone
I totally understand where you're coming from. I grew up watching the show cops and the local news. Not much representation of the positive things blacks were doing. This day and age we are able to create content and show the positive side of being black! Thanks for the support man
subbed!!
glad to see some honest crappie fisherman that teach and not keep all the secrets to themselves. Thank you Hook City TV
WELCOME TO THE CITY! And thanks for the support

My city! Lets go baby
We make ours the same way except for using cinder blocks. Instead we use flood control sand bags. They cost .50cents. Fill them with sand on the bank. They work great.
Awesome video!
The only problem with those is they pollute the river with the bag.
Thanks for your easy holes!
Keep on teaching us Hook City!!!

yessir. A little more cost effective
Hey you guys are awesome for making structure for those crappie!! I say they will hold up there reallll nice! Great video for knowledge!

Glad it was helpful!

We thought of something along the lines of that! Great idea man

Five Smiles!
What? Cowboy Roy does hot have a chain saw? Good video man.
He does. We left it in the truck. Lol
@@HookCityTV Would think he would have one in his pocket or something! ha ha. Or a backpack at least!
I just did the same thing using crape Myrtle, my question is , how well did the crape Myrtle work a year later ? Thanks Ken
I havwnt been back this year. Hopefully we get back on the water this spring

@@HookCityTV Well im glad he can get out and catch some fish for work release LOL!
Saw another video guys using pool noodles instead of jugs with zip ties to limbs alot quicker and easier

Ive dropped green brush and it held fish every day since i dropped it. Ill be more watchful and see what happens
Good morning. I have a question, what if don't have a boat can you still do it without a boat?
yes! people sink brush around docks and bridges all the time!
Willow branches work real well
Unfortunately the lake didn't have any. Just oak and a little patch of those crepe myrtles. Willows are my favorite
Bottom of a lake is the best place for crepe myrtles!
Hook city whts the make and model of your boat set up
We have the 2017 crestliner fishawk 1750 platinum
Use less trunk of the tree material and more of the spreading branches. That way the structure is submerged and the fish are allowed to choose a depth of security within the branches without having to come near the surface. Also, boat trolling motors won't have to deal with them (or outboards).

I live in central PA they don't allow this in the waterways. I wish they did!
Stealth is the trick
Hey get some old Christmas trees put them in a 5 gallon bucket with concrete works great but have some help
Bro i hear a lot about Texas, i hate it here so much in NJ man... nothing but freakin work and shitty ass waterways!!! Great video btw brother! SUBBED*
You fresh ROY!!! Lol
Look like he ready for a trail ride
Is it best catching crappie in deeper water at 7ft max?
That was the deepest part of that pond. Crappie are regularly found deeper than that on larger bodies of water
Put that double pump in that ham!!!LOL
Hey Ken where did you get your hat?
Sams Club
Let's go babbbby.
Ya buddy
Them crappie was probably laid up in them bushes by the time y'all left
We caught fish on 2 of them before we left
Good thing to do in adding brush... Also, just because you add brush, doesn't mean that is your spot... Public waters...
Private pond for us. But when we do drop brush in public waters I have this understanding. Most people dont!
Shank ‘em! 😂😂😂😂
This is interesting. Kinda like an artificial reef or something. But man...it'll be snag city for anyone that don't know they're there.
They work well!
If you ain't getting snagged some, you ain't close to the fish!
Sup man
use cristmas tree's for theam fish
Why didn’t y’all put brush piles near the banks? Not everyone has a boat.
My thoughts weren't to make spots for everyone. Also, in some public waters it's OK to place brush but it must be a certain depth of water as to not create an underwater obstruction that can hurt someone
Remember… your transducer is below the water line…
Get a battery operated saws all
I have one of those also. It was left in the truck. Lol
You get more a boat load ,
You boys are , to little on the tops ,
Put out the brush piles
No disrespect to any other race...but we gotta show black people bein great more often...beautiful bro!!!
I totally understand where you're coming from. I grew up watching the show cops and the local news. Not much representation of the positive things blacks were doing. This day and age we are able to create content and show the positive side of being black! Thanks for the support man
Save real Christmas trees & use them also.
