- A boy’s journey. A mother’s love. Miles of burning city between them.
Saoirse Ronan stars in the new film Blitz, from Academy Award Winner Steve McQueen. In select theaters November 1, streaming on Apple TV+ November 22. apple.co/_Blitz
Sir Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
Written and directed by Academy and BAFTA Award-winning McQueen, the film stars Academy and BAFTA Award nominee Ronan and newcomer Heffernan, with Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman and Sally Messham rounding out the cast. McQueen’s Lammas Park produces alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer for New Regency, with producers Anita Overland and Adam Somner.
McQueen reunites with production designer Adam Stockhausen (“12 Years a Slave,” “Widows”), costume designer Jacqueline Durran (“Small Axe”), and composer Hans Zimmer (“12 Years a Slave”), with cinematographer Yorick Le Saux (“Little Women”) and makeup designer Naomi Donne ( “Spectre,” “Skyfall”).

McQueen is one of those filmmakers that is slow with his output but his filmography is almost entirely 5 star films. Definitely a quality over quantity filmmaker. This one feels far less cynical & more hopeful than most of the work he's done up to now but I'm here for it. Been waiting on this film for two or three years.
In the best way, it feels like Nolan level BUT (and I love both directors) I think McQueen's will be a lot more cohesive.
Will this film finally give my dear Saoirse Ronan an Oscar?
Probably not, watch out for Emilia perez and Anora. Both great performances from actresses
@@znamir1493 If it comes down to these three, Ronan will easily clear them. She has the name, the status and the narrative. For the other two, the nomination is the win I'm afraid. Both first timers, one very young and the other not British or American. In case you don't know these are all disadvantages for them.
Between this and the Outrun she has a good shot this year
@@katiedoyle819 It'll be similar to Al Pacino should that happen. Pacino was 0-for-6 before being double Oscar nominated in the same year (Supporting for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and Lead for SCENT of A WOMAN), marking his 7th and 8th nominations respectively. He lost Supporting early but won Lead just a couple of hours later.
@@katiedoyle819 Should she get double nominated, she will be the female Al Pacino, who had 6 nominations without wins before being double nominated (his 7th and 8th noms) in one year, winning Lead.
Between "Blitz" and "The Outrun", this seems like it's going to be a fun award show run for Saoirse Ronan
I wonder which she will campaign for more.
@@adolfopena7358 Probably Blitz
@@adolfopena7358 As it is obviously the best picture nominee
We are now entering "Saoirse is a mother in a movie" era.
Give Saoirse Ronan her overdue Oscar. She should have won twice already for Brooklyn and Lady Bird or AT LEAST once. This year she has two amazing performances so if she doesn't win, I'll get really really mad.
But she's not the best when she is nominated. Frances and Brie were miles ahead.
@@AwardshqActually not true.
@parsashojaei1352 not true but she lost every head to head award haha
@@Awardshq Yeah I love Saoirse but her performance in Brooklyn was fine. Nothing special. Brie meanwhile was outstanding in Room.
If saoirse does not win this year, I swear to god...
^ yeah this!
She probably wont, considering there are Emilia perez and Anora with great performances
@@znamir1493 oh yeah, and there's Amy Adams too in nightbitch and Jolie in Maria. But still still hoping for saoirse
Saoirse Ronan truly is the best actress of her generation.
Very debatable.
@@ktom5262 No it's not. Who is at her level?
She started since 2007 and look at her performances!

AppleTV+ been cooking man
One of my TOP most anticipated movies of the year!!! A WW2 from the perspective of a child seems super interesting. This looks amazing.
come and see was also from that perspective, its very dark though. difficult to watch
Spielberg did as well with Empire of the Sun, starring a 13 year old Christian Bale
I see it now ‘Academy Award Winner Saoirse Ronan’
Will watch anything Saoirse is in!
Give Saoirse Ronan an Oscars for this movie.❤❤❤
How can anyone not just ♥ Saoirse!
Blitz of diversity!
A movie about the Blitz… and u had to take black actors 🤦♂️
We were never asked.
They should give her an honorary Oscar so people can shut up and stop acting like there aren’t a plethora of Actors and Actresses that have been overlooked for decades, half a century!
Saoirse Ronan, Stephen Graham, Paul Weller, Holly Lineton, to name a few. Looks like an interesting watch to me. 👍
When is this girl ever going to win an Oscar?
the protagonist is a mudshark? lol
And the Oscar goes to … :)
Benjamin Clementine phenomenal singer, i'm excited to see him acting!
Now that's how you cut a trailer!
WE WUZ BRITISH N SHIEEEEEET
It'll be interesting to see whether she pulls of an Al Pacino-like run this year. Pacino was 0-for-6 before being double Oscar nominated in the same year (Supporting for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and Lead for SCENT OF A WOMAN), marking his 7th and 8th nominations respectively. He lost Supporting but won Lead just a couple of hours later.
at least they're not speaking German.
I'm here for Saoirse Ronan ❤
Saoirse For Oscar 2025
There's an awful lot of Ronan in the trailer for a "supporting role". Will her nomination be for Blitz or The Outrun?
Widows is so underrated as well as Shame
Looks awesome.
Winston Churchill is portrayed by Idris Elba.
Steve McQueen? Nice. I haven't seen his documentaries yet but Small Axe was amazing
This looks like it's going to shatter my heart.
So Saorise Ronan has a black son in 1940 London?! LOL
CONSTELLATION SEASON 2 JUSTICE FOR THIS SHOW
Saoirse ❤
The Jam / Style Council Paul Weller at 1.23
Best Original Screenplay
who thought to insert music in the style of sublime fantasy into the trailer!?
I wonder if it will be in IMAX?
Inserting 'diversity', amazing how tolerant people were back then
Was wondering the same thing.Saoirse is white but her kid is a little coffee.Just to be clear, this is not me being racist in any way but this seems a little out of place. Are we ticking boxes?
That's what's so great about today's cinema. Everyone finds their place regardless of the race.
@@spandel100
New "agreements" made in the entertainment industry insist that every production must have a certain required amount of ethnic representation.
Failing to meet those required targets means the production concerned will not be eligible for any awards.
Most media companies really like to win awards to help market their product.
Which is why we end up with the madness of a black woman portraying Anne Boleyn in a historical drama.
However, don't hold your breath, expecting to see Tarzan being played by the likes of Idris Elba anytime soon.
Or Matt Damon playing Nelson Mandela.
This policy only works in one direction.
@@spandel100if you want an oscar then you need to tick the boxes 😅
have you ever think that Saoirse's husband in the film might be black?
So she's finally playing a mom.
Moscow might look like this soon
is that the "herald of the change" from DUNE!? Man I know those epic cheek bones anywhere.
my boy ben clementine lets go
Is that supposed to be young George Floyd?
Top of the Oscar’s race this goes.
She said "My Boy George"! Is this a Boy George Biopic?
how many trailer's are popping up this week??! well excited much
Not all the stories of The Blitz have been told. It is good to see this interpretation of what could or might have been. Thank you, Steve McQueen.
Or what wasn't, and what didn't, in this case.
...Is the Ø Silent for her too?
Please have a uk cinema release
So basically San Andreas. but Blitzkrieg
Why would she have a black kid instead of a white kid? Who’s the father in this movie??
This looks epic, can’t wait
Looks more like Blackz to me
Lol
Ahhh yes more revisionist history. Mixed race kid in 1940s London
Hey it’s the Herald of the Change from Dune Part One!
Lol. What an absolute mess.
Now this looks spectacular and I'll definitely try to catch in theaters
This is not the blitz that i remember
Can British people not having anything of our own? Why must every piece of our history and culture have foreigners forced into it?
It’s disrespectful, the constant myth that we’ve always been multiracial and diverse is an insane lie. Any show post George Floyd wether it’s 6th century England or this, has to feature a foreigner and it has to be normalised 🤦♀️
Because we "won" the war.
And by "win" I mean win it for Jews.
The foreigners during the Blitz were the Germans, or do you think the British should bomb the British so you ain't offended...
We need more sci-fi shows ! ! !
Nothing about this is Sci-fi…. Set in London 1939 as the Germans began their aerial bombardment of Britain.
Woke asf
Looks very good. I’ll be watching this
Why is the kid black and the mother white?
Different people exist. There are lots of mixed children.
I assume because the father is black? Should be pretty straightforward.
@@hiddeheikoop that's not why lol
Diversity box ticking again maybe.I hope Apple does not go down the same path as Disney.++++++++
@@hiddeheikoop Ahh yes so many in the 1940's London...
This looks good.
❤
finallyyyyyy
Oscar bait: the movie
This looks kinda generic
Love Britain in the 1940’s, but why is he black?, like they didn’t even exist in England in that time, the revision of history is scary. Surely a little English kid would be fine??
You think Black people didn’t exist in Britain in the 1940s? Or that they can’t be English? This is loosely based on a real-life story of a Black child who got separated from his mother during the London Blitz.
Also Steve McQueen, the director of this movie, is Black and English.
You can't be black and English.
English is an ethnicity, and English people aren't black.
@@Saigeee333 black english in 2024. Yes.
Black english during the blitz: no. Very very very very very very few of them.

You've managed to be completely wrong.
Doesn't look impressive at all.
I think she will het bafta and sag
In here before a certain demo of people come here and try to attack a literal child.
No1 will attack anyone... We are here because blackwashing of history is as wrong as whitewashing.
Very diverse and inclusive WW2 era film! Thank you Biden/Harris government grants
It's key to remember black people didn't live in the UK until post WWII. 0/10, worst movie ever made

Well maybe the kid is mixed, gosh these people 🙄
But we need to know how he got mixed.Surely back then mixed relationships were not the norm?
