- I've had this idea for a while now, but around 2 months ago I finally decided to put pen to paper. Over the course of the next couple of months, after writing a nearly 7,000 word script and after editing rendition after rendition, I finally finished this project. This video is definitely the hardest I've ever worked on a project, and I really hope it turned out that way.

I tried to use the phrase “MAP” to specifically target my attention towards those individuals who go by that term, but it would’ve been better if I just referred to them all as pedos, so my apologies
I don't think anyone watching this could not pick up on how it was brought up, that being that it's a laughable term. The mere existence of the term just completely exemplifies the way they cower and beat around the bush without saying the quiet part out loud.
I mean, saying "minor-attracted people" doesn't make it sound any better - that's what paedos are; if you think it makes them look better that's completely on you.

This is, to say the least, one of the best commentary videos that I've ever seen come out of the osu community and those 2 months of effort show.
(Below is my long opinion of the video)
osu is the first game where I actively interacted with the community and what I've learned from my fairly short 1-2 years in here is that we're extremely complicated. But you nailed every single topic that I've witnessed, from the Freddie Benson/Mathi situation whom are among my favorite players then and now, to social media and the relationship between different types of players (which resonated with me because I'm a tech player who also plays DT farm maps), to outsider's association with weebs and MAPs, to the George Floyd collab which was short lived but a real wake-up call. I subscribed immediately after watching, and if my friends were to ask me what the osu community is like, I would recommend this video in a heartbeat.
On a side note, I was that reddit comment you featured where I said I hoped BadGraph's ban was a false-restriction because he was one of my inspirations as a player; and I think it would be worth mentioning Morgan's ban as a footnote. Mainly because I saw many players go through a similar situation to mine where they were depressed at the fact that a player they looked up to was a cheater. But I understand it would probably be redundant and unnecessary, and it wouldn't really change anything about the video. Keep up the good work and I wish you luck on your future videos!

This was a pretty good video overall. I recognize and appreciate the two months of work you dedicated to making this is a reality, and it's something I would definitely recommend to people who are looking for a deeper insight about how this community functions and what it's like to participate in it. However, I have some criticisms that I feel like could improve even a video like this. It's essentially going to be a bullet list as I cover each of the topics in the video.
0:00 - I wouldn't start a 41 minute video with an entire minute of nothing. The introduction is necessary for the video, but you can place something in the background to retain viewer attention. I watched through it because I wanted to hear everything you had to say, but someone who is recommended this by UA-cam might not.
5:02 - Describing BruhmasterL as a "high-quality content creator" is factually incorrect. It has been proven on multiple occasions that his videos are poorly researched, edited, and written. Videos like his Goodbye Score Progression fail to mention players like Dustice and Bubbleman; The History of idke focuses on his high pp scores instead of some truly ridiculous scores like osu.ppy.sh/b/1745634 +HR and osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/357996#osu/787307 nomod; The Legend of Rafis compares scores set in 2016 to WhiteCat in 2020 when the video is literally about Rafis; and his improvement video all include detrimental mistakes and inaccuracies. 5:45 - peppy is a great lead developer and I'm glad you recognized his positive characteristics. I would be cautious of describing him as purely positive though because he has a long history of discarding community input unless under pressure.
12:00 - I agree that cheaters are people too, but you explicitly described why cheaters have more of an impact on the osu! community than other games only 3 minutes earlier. Players who cheated into the top 1,000 question the legitimacy of every top-level player, and not everyone can handle this immense suspicion.
14:55 - The difference was Sotarks. Sotarks mapped Monogatari which Mathi had already FCed with HDDT while it was in pending and many people believed he created the map solely for Mathi to get 800 off it. You're correct about Freddie Benson's situation though.
22:00 - XNOR XNOR XNOR didn't initially win. The only reason it's considered a winner today was from the immense backlash of having only player voting for aspire (Time Traveler won the player vote) and disregarding the mapper's vote. Staff retroactively gave fanzhen the Elite Mapper title and wrote an entire news article about the decision on the front page. Aspire V was also an ENTIRE year late, citing various delays with the administrative team, selecting arguably bad songs, and failing to be taken seriously by higher-ups.
25:15 - Your tone here makes it sound like Mr. Helix is a genius for thinking of this concept. It's not difficult to make the connection to the song title (Time Traveler) and the concept of the map (rewinding objects).
25:50 - I've created and ranked a farm map (short version Mynarco) and I can say it can be entertaining to make one. Seeing people achieving high pp/important scores on your maps feels reassuring and motivates you to map more in a similar fashion.
31:12 - I understand this is a difficult story to tell, but don't be afraid to say it. These events happened, and maintaining a tone where it sounds like you're scared to discuss it does not support your perspective of maturely talking about it in the first place.
33:01 - One "fuck you" would've made this more impactful. I completely agree with your sentiment here, those people truly are fucked in the head. However, only swearing once or twice really enunciates the message when you've gone 30 minutes without swearing.
37:00 onward - This feels too general since even though you are featuring the ugly side of the community, not everyone is like that. Please don't generalize the 95% of the community who ridiculed the George Floyd collaboration as people who were complacent about it.

@@bruhmasterl2268 While I do believe that you should fact check more, I enjoy your content a lot, your one of the few osu channels I will consistently watch. While whether the information is factually correct is a concern, your edits and voiceover/script is generally well written and still makes me want to watch your videos over other people that are more accurate in their information. Only people that are really invested into the games history will find your videos somewhat unwatchable, but I think most people who don't know too much about the history still enjoy your videos a lot, as it gives them some idea of the past, and if they're interested, they can look into it more.

I have immense respect for your ability to absorb constructive criticism and improve your content. It's come leaps and bounds since a few months ago and I'm glad you persevered instead of buckling under the pressure. hi, GMT here. on topic of 37:35, an inappropriate avatar alone is not what gets a player restricted, it's a combination of infringements and/or their severities that does. you can't really compare all three collabs, because the players, and their offense history, are different. as for the George Floyd collab, all parties involved received very extensive silences (~1 month) after an internal discussion has taken place.
finally, there's always an issue of visibility. if you, or someone else, see something, that doesn't mean GMTs know about it. if you reported something unfitting and nothing happened within a reasonable amount of time, get ahold of any moderator (me, for example) and report to them directly, highlighting the fact that no action was taken.

Great video! Anyone that watched the whole video can tell you put a lot of work & effort into it. I recently started making videos that requires writing scripts & holy shit it can really be a pain at times.

Really good video! Watched it till the end and I agree with all the points made. Clearly you can see it took 2 months of hard work to make.
My personal toxic experience with the community is one that you didn't cover in this video (you kinda did when talking about playstyles). The communities view towards +RX playstyle. I myself started playing the game in maybe 2015 or 2016 I don't know anymore tbh, but at some point I got stuck on tapping. I noticed a trend where I could easily aim 200+ pp maps, but my tapping just wasn't there. After I somehow got an FC on nomod bombs away top diff for like 150pp with ridiculously bad acc it became apparant for me that I either had to train day and night for my left hand to function normally like my right hand can (it's only my left hand that for some reason doesn't want to move), or that osu just wasn't gonna be the game for me (a sidenote to be made here is that I didn't want to make osu my full time game, as I really like playing other games like LoL, Minecraft and others).
But just before giving up on the game I thought to myself "if I'm telling myself that it's the tapping that's holding me back and not the aim, I might as well prove that to myself..." This is when I started to play +RX. Even though I never made osu my full time game, I can now consistently fc 7* while currently working on my first 8* (I always choke it ; _ ;). For me the game finally became fun again after being able to play maps like the top players do, high speed, big jump maps with fast paced hype songs. For example when I play necro fantasia +DT and I hit those big jumps it feels so cool to feel like budget Rafis for a second. I really like playing osu again now, even if I kind of play only 50% of the game with relax. But here is where the community comes in...
The opinion people have towards RX players is so fucking disgusting. The only instance where I saw an actual exception is tuna's RXHDDTHR fc on that moisturized tissue map (I'm not counting akatsuki as that community is made of players like me filtered out of the toxic nomod players).
It's legit so cringe and frustrating to see everything I do get discredited because "it's just RX dude it's not even hard". I legitamately put hundreds of hours (I don't know how much actually but like still a lot for me) into this game to get to the level I'm currently at, with days of training to read ar 10+DT and aim 8* maps. Ofcourse I understand that when someone FCs a 8* nomod it's way more impressive, but the only people who can do that are full time osu gamers at the top of the ladder. I'm never comparing myself to them, as I haven't even put half of their effort into this game. But for some reason people always have to compare players and talk players down. I'm just so sad people can't just take plays and players for what they are themselves, without all of the comparing. Right now there is even a trend unfolding in "WHITEDOABLE" it's just so toxic man...
I understand RX isn't quite as impressive as nomod, but I just hope that there will be a day where people just let other people enjoy the game the way they like to, without forcing their own playstyle onto them and without comparing everything and talking shit down.

Only difference from your summary is that the "pictures" and the "video" weren't sent to the 13 year old girl, but to another 17 year old girl who is also somehow involved in the story. From what I gathered, Rohulk still had some "questionable" exchanges with the 13 year old girl, which he claims were taken out of context, no pics or live performances involved in those exchanges from what I know though.
curious: do other games get videos dedicated to players that turn out to be evil people? does the game and community get labelled as "pedophiles" at large due to the actions of a minority that decided to play the game?
you'd think with these people being in every community (it's just a rule of numbers) larger games like league would be labelled similarly, no?

Regarding James and dawnsday being banned for a controversial collaboration, I think that was mainly due to the fact that they had a really bad history and where on "restriction probation" which meant the staff was much less lenient toward them. I think controversial collaborations usually only end in a silence

I'm a little late but damn nice work on this, really sums us up as a community. I personally don't really fanboy over top players anymore but when I see someone get 1 digit who just knows how to play basic pattern farm maps that exploit the system literally and they pass people that have poured hundreds of hours into the game playing insane read maps that no one else can do because they're super hard ofc I'm not going to be happy with that shit but I'm not going to give them hate for it, it's up to them how they play the game but the fact the system is so flawed to let this sort of thing happen is what's annoying... Reading can be calculated it'll just take a lot of fucking effort and probably would need some sort of AI to understand how humans see the game what probably won't happen so I just can't see those players the same as people who have put the real hard work in. I know it may have taken a lot to get there but I'm sure it doesn't compare to the journey of someone like Wubwoofwolf who literally replayed his maps all the time to get his insane reading and consistency to where it is, but ofc that's nothing compared to a 50 second jump map that someone could farm a few times and get like 800 PP. What happened man... It's actually so depressing. I still understand that getting your skills ahead of the competition is impressive though and deserves respect. But as a read player it's just so sad. Again amazing video! Had a bit to drink so sorry if my shit doesn't make sense.

kind of crazy to find out that one of those players in the george floyd collab is a friend who got me into osu! after the collab happened, he is actually a cool dude and I haven't faced any type of discrimination or too-edgy humor by him and I think he learned his lesson from that collab, took me 5 months to find out why he was restricted from bancho the time when I logged into osu!
anyway, great video, and what happens in osugame when it comes to opinions is kind of the same for other gaming subreddits, r/fortnitebr for example bashes against pro players and "sweats" yet upvote posts that say "stop hating on good players"
even after all of these events, I personally think the osu community is great

I think you forgot about mtmtc who groomed Mismagius and sent legit cp (or it was a different situation) whilst Mismagius was under-age at the time. (Iirc, I might be wrong on some/all parts)
Also, with Aspire, I remember that the year before thought the storyboard gymmic was oversaturated (don't get me started on the Labor of Love contest winner)
As well, a lot of people did not like MopeMope was that another map that was like XNOR XNOR XNOR XNOR (pronounced X Nor) called Flashbacklog got disqualified. So people tried to get it loved. But due to an all out war with Goodbye Moonmen in loved voting, both maps did not make it to loved.
Also, I've been involved or watched over the countless mapping drama but I don't think negatively for the entire community because of it. People's opinions of maps change over time and now maps like Ehgze have now become a part norm in mapping.

Yeah, as a person put through the wringer on osu! Twitter (and even suspended currently #FreeVastly) over my opinions i think this sums up the community all too well. Edgy angsty teens that think that being generally shitty humans to others just over a difference of opinion seems odd to me. It quite literally is like politics, theres a "wrong side" and you'll be mauled my the other for simply saying you believe something to be true regardless if you're wrong or if you turn out to be right. Opinions are points for discussion and if you disagree with someone discuss it, dont be cringe and weird about it and block people and try and cancel them. Anyways, this was a good video, bit on the lengthy side but for its quality i didnt notice 40 minutes went by, thats how you know a video is enjoyable. Best of luck on growing ♡

great video, and compared to how people at my school reacted to osu last year compared to in 2016 is much better, in 2016 when people found out i played osu at my school i was constantly seen as a dumb lonely weeb who does nothing but watch hentai because of it; granted if i mentioned it today some people would still probably think that but due to the game becoming way bigger and having more amazing osu creators that reputation is subsiding (as really the only good osu creator that was popular at the time was wubwoofwolf)
