We went for a walk date at TE WHARA LOOP while our little boy is at daycare. It is a bit challenging 4-hour steep walk but incredibly worth it. This trail overlaps the longer and more difficult Bream Head Walk.
We started and finished it at the Ocean Beach Carpark. The initial section of this hike is along the open grassland with stunning views of Whangarei Heads so be sure to stop and soak in the views. To see the Bream Head peninsula cliffs, make sure to take a quick detour at WW2 Radar Station viewing platform before reaching the Te Whara summit. Soon after the Te Whara Peak, we walk part of the Peach Cove Track then back to the Ocean Beach carpark.
It was nice to once in a while challenge ourselves with walks that require a high fitness level which we are obviously not, specially if you’ll be rewarded with incredible views like in Te Whara.

Hi @John Paki! Thank you for watching our video.
We are thinking of taking this walk once a year until we grow old.😆 Gabriel also wants to join us when he's ready. For a start, he already did Mt Mania and Mt Parihaka. Just gradually exposing him to hiking.
