Thank you for watching!
I was looking for a remineralization method for this exact RO system... Your video was perfect! Bye berkey!
LOL, Berkey is great for the outdoors, but for the home, this counter-top RO is definitely better!
Also would you say this filter is the best countertop RO filter available in the market as of now?
Great review, @Yourself !. After replacing the Remin filter, will it still fit with the case ?
If you have the model with the case, everything inside is very tight. The Remin filter is larger than regular filters, so it'll not fit inside the case. Maybe you can use it without the case... not sure.
Thank you for this video. very well explained and informative. As someone whos is totally new to water filters, do you suggest a solution to water wastage? Does it just go down the drain, or is there a way to reuse it?
This was a great review! Thank you for the education and showing how to take a good system and make it even better!!
I'm glad you've found this video helpful, thanks for watching.
@@Your-Self what exactly is in the ''remin'' filter? I would like to know how much minerals are in 1 liter of water, and how much of each mineral per liter of water. For example: 1 liter of water contains Xmg of Ca, Ymg Mg, Zmg K, Wmg Na, Xmg P etc. Thank you
@incorectulpolitic since I don't have the professional lab equipment, I can't measure individual minerals per liter. According to the manufacturer, the water contains; Coral Calcium, pure Mg, K, Na, and wide spectrum of other trace minerals. You can read more on their site vitev.com/collections/alkaline-water-ionizers/products/remin-fresh-for-life-program-1-year-autoship
Great review and nice set-up. If I wanted to go with the 4-stage APEC RO + Vitev REMIN filter, would I need to buy any special connection kits to hook them up together? I looked but couldn't find any related parts on amazon. Thanks.
You won’t really need any special connections, but supplied quarter inch tube may not be long enough to connect REMIN, so you may need to buy a foot of quarter inch tube. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@Your-Self doesnt apex have its own remineralization filter? you changed it with the Vitev Remin one?
@TheBaRolExperience my system is from APEC (not APEX), but these companies use Remineralization filters made with cheap Calcite and Corosex which are not meant to be used with "aggressive" RO water. When this acidic RO water flows through the Remineralization filter, it picks-up way too many minerals then your kidneys can handle, triggering possible kidney stones. Vitev uses a wide array of minerals which are slowly released within a year. Expensive but tasty and a healthy product!
@@Your-Self do you think i could connect somehow the Remin to a countertop distiller? To put minerals back into the distilled water? Or somehow run through the Remin the distilled water?
@TheBaRolExperience that particular Remin cartridge requires pressure to push water through, and I believe the distiller almost has no pressure when dispensing water. Maybe, you could try a Remin-pitcher from the same company vitev.com/collections/alkaline-water-ionizers
I like how the Express brand has the metal spout instead of the plastic tube. Is there a way to hook one of these up to the Apec countertop RO?
That’s an amazing presentation. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
The system on amazon doesn't have the remineralization filter. Did you buy it seperately?
Pure water has a pH of 7.0. The reason that reverse osmosis water is a little acidic (pH can drop as low as 5.5) is because carbon dioxide in the air dissolves into the water (perfectly natural process) which causes the formation of carbonic acid (H2CO3) in the water.
Great video man! Just one question: how often do you need you need to replace the filters assuming you use them 24/7?
Every filter should have the capacity of filtration written on it. Let's say 500 or 1500 gallons. So if you use it nonstop 24/7, you'll probably need to replace them weekly or monthly.
Awesome job 🇮🇳
Thanks for watching!
Great video. I like your set-up but I see you got the Chloramine and Remin filters from other companies (APEC didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked for similar type filters). Could you provide links where you got them (I see one is Omnipure but seems like they make various Chlorine filters but I couldn’t see anything that specified Chloramine)? I’m new to the RO world and would like to order pretty much what you have. Thanks.
You are correct, my municipal water contains Chloramine instead of Chlorine and for the system to work I had to replace regular carbon filters with Omnipure K2526-JJ which APEC has in stock... www.freedrinkingwater.com/fi-chloramin-1-4-qc.htm
But then I replaced post-carbon filter with Remineralization cartridge from this company... www.vitev.com/alkaline-water-ionizers-p/remin-program-1.htm
It's a bit expensive at $119, but it's a top-of-the-line American made Remin filter with 12 month slow-release healthy minerals.
Thanks for watching.
YourSelf Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply.
@@Your-Self How often do you replace the Omnipure Carbon block filter?
Abraham V... I've just replaced my Omnipure block after 1 year and here is the video: ua-cam.com/video/YpsuHdmEFOc/v-deo.html It's recommended to replace it every 8-12 month, but really depends on how often you use it and general quality of water in your area.
@@Your-Self Thanks for the quick reply I appreciate it. I'm currently trying to retrofit my Global Water G5RO water cooler RO system to a set up like yours. The trick is that I will have to modify the main bracket inside the cooler housing to be able to fit the APEC filters. The Global Water RO system is not as effective as the APEC system and filters have to be replaced more often.
Hello, one question , is the tubing on the in and out lines a softer type of plastic?
It looks more flexible and I wondered what it was made from.
Yes, the tubing IN and OUT is softer than tubing between filters, but I'm not sure what it's made of. Thanks for watching.
Damm, id wish I could get my hands on some of that tubing. Thanks for the quick answer.
I think it's vinyl/PVC. One last question, is it thicker? outer and inner diameter?
tubing looks exactly the same, 1/4 inch size... the only difference is softness.
Thanks again.
How can you measure the pressure of the water that comes out from the tap and sett it to the right pressure for the RO system?
So are you using a different/upgraded mineral filter?
Yes, I've replaced the last stage basic carbon filter with a remineralization filter.
I generally prefer calcite Corosex post filters, cause they self regulate at neutral PH and don't go basic.
Can you please indicate the GPD rating of RO membrane?
I'm pretty sure it's a 90 GPD membrane, but I installed it long time ago, so don't remember exactly.
So what is better method the reverse osmosis or water distiller and would Remini Filter work with the Distiller of could i just use japanese charcoal water filte with it and adding some minerals
Both methods are great!
Distillation requires a lot of energy to boil-off the water.
RO requires water pressure to push water through the filter. And the Remin filter needs that pressure as well.
For distilled water, you can use a pitcher with a Remin filter inside.
Hi, I am trying to get a countertop RO system similar to the one shown above then add in the mineralizing unit, which brand would you recommend? I looked recently into the Crystalquest brand, but there were bad reviews on it on Amazon. Thanks.
I use the REMIN filter from vitev.com. It's larger than a typical filter and good tasting, but kinda expensive. I replace it every 12 months on auto-program for $119.
@@Your-Self I was referring to a Reverse Osmosis unit similar to the one you've reviewed above, I meant the entire unit leading to 0 TDS, can you recommend any?
Not really. A typical RO system will remove about 95% of impurities (5-20 TDS). To get 0 TDS, you'll need a distiller or a Zerowater filter system.
Thank you. that was really helpful
Glad to hear it!
Can acidic RO water also leach plastic? Psuedo-estrogens are a concern - like from the bladder in the RO tank or even the tubing.
Your concern is right on the point. Acidic RO water "digs in" the container to find minerals to neutralize itself. That's why RO companies install an additional carbon filter to improve the rubbery taste of the water coming from the tank bladder. The best way is to mineralize the water right after it goes through the RO membrane. That way, the water sits in the tank already alkaline or neutral and doesn't "attack" the walls for minerals.
@@Your-Self One issue is still confusing. RO water isn't acidic until it comes in contact with air where it absorbs CO2. Pure, distilled water is perfectly pH neutral - until it comes in contact with air (which might be immediately).
It might not be acidic per se but it's still ionically 'hungry' and eager to bond with something. So to me there's 2 separate issues here that i don't quite fully grasp.
What should the TDS read on water from a brand new water filter? My zero water filter reads zero but this is way higher than that. Thanks!
The RO system removes about 95% of impurities from the faucet water, which is good enough. And I like to add some minerals to that water after purification to improve taste and make it healthier. And that increases the TDS.
The Zero Water removes 100% of impurities, but the filter needs to be replaced very often $$$
@@Your-Self so zero water is better? I was told RO is better , so confusing.
Excellent job 👍
Thanks for watching!
great video. thanks you alot
Glad you liked it!
agree, video is great thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow, 9.5 pH from that filter! Did it come together with RO system?
Typically, RO systems come with optional Remineralization filters made with cheap Calcite and Corosex which are not meant to be used with aggressive RO water. When this acidic RO water flows through Remineralization filter it picks-up way too many minerals then your kidneys can handle triggering possible kidney stones. I found my Remin filter with slow-release minerals and 12 month replacement cycle made by an American company. It's a bit expensive at $119 if you sign-up for yearly replacement, but if you care about your health it's worth it.
The company is called Vitev: www.vitev.com/alkaline-water-ionizers-p/remin-program-1.htm
Thanks man, just got my remineralization filter and ph drops to verify... and it’s very purple and water taste great!
@@Your-Self Wouldn't the amount of minerals the water picks up be self-limiting as the water loses it's acidity?
Where did you get PH testing agent?
In this video, I used Litmus Test pH drops from Amazon amzn.to/2XXIpuw
I am trying to add the remin to the express water countertop system. How would I hook it up? I believe I have to remove the rounded faucet and connect the remin filter with a tube to the post carbon? Any advice would be helpful
I'm not sure how your express water system looks like, but in general, the Remin filter should be connected instead of the post-carbon filter, not after.
@@Your-Self So I have to replace the post carbon with the remin filter, right? Why can’t both be together?
And the remin filter would this become a 5th stage
You can obviously create the 5th stage if you want, but honestly, the post-carbon filter doesn't do anything but improving the taste of already clean water (assuming you have the RO membrane). And if you got the Remin filter, it will add the minerals and improve the taste at the same time. More stages don't always mean better water.
@@Your-Self gotcha! Thank you so much for all the info!
So the R.O. filter got water to 9mg TDS + the mineral filter added 48mg. Your waste water TDS was 337, not as high as I expected. Results at 6:20
And the filter took 60 seconds to fill a glass. That's really slow but expected. The question I came for: what is the GPD (gallons per day) rating of the RO system? I want to compare it with the glass fill time.
This system is rated at 90 GPD. But the water flow also depends on the pressure at your faucet. If your pressure is at 80 psi, the water will flow much faster then at 40 psi.
great test, thanks
Thanks for watching!
excellent review
Thanks for watching.
Does this have an active carbon filter?
Yeah! It's the second filter (right before the reverse osmosis membrane). My system has two carbon filters, since I bought the system without a remineralization filter, so there's a second carbon post-filter instead.
Hey man! What’s the brand of this product on amazon?
I got this APEC filter from Amazon amzn.to/2Fi7bOa but then replaced the last stage basic filter with the remineralization cartridge from Vitev for $119 www.vitev.com/alkaline-water-ionizers-p/remin-program-1.htm
Right I figured it was different. I couldn’t find the one with the remineralization. Thanks for the links!
What model is this
What's the ideal TDS for drinking water? Thanks
There is no "ideal" TDS level for everyone because everybody has different lifestyles and food consumption. So generally speaking, 20-400 TDS should be good if the water was filtered. Faucet water in a city at any TDS is not good for you long-term.
@@Your-Self Thank you
nice video but according to int'l standards the TDS is too low to be healthy drinking water ,But your tap water apart from bacteria and pesticides seems to be good enough to drink
CLEAN water with known minerals at 50 - TDS is much healthier for you than tap water at 200 - TDS with Chlorine, Lead, Mercury, Fluoride, Arsenic, and other toxic metal chemicals, hormones, pesticides, pharmaceutical waste. Even distilled water at 0 - TDS is healthier for you than unfiltered tap water, but you have to eat a healthy diet full of fresh organic fruits and vegetables to compensate for lost minerals from water. Thanks for watching!
I agree. Anything below 100 cause give to little mineral for the human body causing hair loss and other problems.
@@Your-Self or you could just take liquid minerals. I don't know why everyone is so concerned about lost minerals. I don't think any of us drink that much water that we can rely on it as a sole source of minerals!
what would happen if you connect that water to a water ionizer machine ?
I don't think there would be any difference since this water is already at high pH, but don't know for sure.
holy shit that is super basic PH. Don't put that anywhere near metal.
AWESOME JOB. thanks
