Biggest floral tribute at his funeral: from porters at Heathrow Airport in England. Praising his graciousness to all, they said he made even a porter feel like a king.

A wonderful man giving so much pleasure to movie goers for many years. A very sad ending for such an amazing actor and gentleman. Sadly missed by everyone.

He was a gorgeous man and I love his autobiographies. If you can get copies of The Moons A Balloon and Bring On The Empty Horses get them.

That first picture of Primmie looking at a magazine is actually Hjordis. Nevertheless I congratulate you on your accuracy.
I have a copy of His father's army service record on my computer so I could send it to you if you wish.

Joe Demarco. Ridiculous. He was so devastated by Primmies death he almost took his own life

I loved "A Matter of Life and Death" - also known as "Stairway to Heaven" in North America which I understand David Niven finished in a couple of weeks in the U.K. while in the air force during War II.

i talked to Gregory Peck one time at a cal in in '86. i told him how much i enjoyed Roman Holiday and also was interested in Niven. he chuckled and said how he was the same off screen. of course they played together in Navarone. Niven's 2 books are great reads!

Only in Britain and British colonies. Lewtenant is perfect English in the United States and outlands. Further, Lewtenant may also be acceptable in the Navy but not other forces.

Why is the video 11 mins long for a five min bio?

    • @5MinuteBiographies

Hi David C - thanks for taking the time to comment. I guess the answer is that 5 minutes is more of a guideline than a rule. This idea started off as a blog, then a podcast, and then a UA-cam channel, and sometimes you simply need more time to fit the important things in and also of course UA-cam channel and each video needs an intro and an outro which adds a little time. I hope that answers your questions and that you like what I am trying to do. Thanks

yes I read The Moon is a Balloon and Bring on the Empty Horses of Niven a number of years ago. Some hilarious bits in one of them to do with skiing a mountain in freezing weather and light-weight clothing, and seeking warmth in a pub where parts of one's anatomy could be brought back to life. Why do the silly bits stick over the profound bits?

he didn't escape his first time in the military. he was given a choice of discharge and took it. he reenlisted at the hight of his stardom in '39. wrong pic of Primmie, but correct grouping at 4:50. that's Hjordis before. she's wife #2 after Primmie's tragic death from a stupid accident in Hollywood playing sardines, kind of blind's man's bluff at an actor friend's house.. Hjordis was a mistake for both of them.

Niven DID NOT kill his first wife-they were playing hide and seek and she opened a door thinking it was a closet and fell down a flight of stairs.
