It's expensive for Latin and Central America. I was planning for a second visit for the year but decided on Thailand. It's not much longer considering how long it takes to get there from San Jose plus much cheaper. I spent quite a bit of time in Puerto Viejo never saw someone hitch hike so I am not surprised no one stopped. Your lunch spot was a good pick..I eat at his soda a few times a week when I'm in the area.
Yeah after visiting a few more countries in central America, I realised it’s quite a difference, but with some planning you could still find some affordable places. What I really liked about Costa Rica was the quality of the food, even though it was pricier, it was always delicious and fresh! Anyways, South East Asia is waaay more affordable and Thailand is always a good idea! We will go back this year, enjoy your trip
Great video, It’s great that you like Costa Rican food. In the Caribbean part there is a high influence of Jamaica and It’s meals shows that influence. If you can, you should try rondon, it’s a seafood soup with coconut milk. Very delicious! Also the whole fish with Caribbean sauce is just amazing. Great vibe of you both. Pura vida!
Hey! We didn’t arrive to Costa Rica by flying, we crossed the border from Panama by shuttle! So I can’t answer you exactly, but I’m sure you’ll find a shuttle/bus or a private driver - the ride from San Jose to Puerto Viejo is not too long.
It's 5-7 hours from the airport depending on traffic. I usually use caribe shuttle (pickup at Denny's near airport) or interbus which picks up by airport. There is also the Mepe bus from San Jose city and has the most frequency.

For example, from Puerto Viejo to the bus station in San Jose, we took the bus, but not sure how to reach the airport after - maybe by taxi!
