- This is Patrick Orth´s BMW 320is E30 and it is not only one of the best sounding BMW´s in the German Berg-Cup series, but also one of the fastest. Masterfully driven, this 2.0L Naturally Aspirated S14 Engined Monster is producing a sonorous 315Hp/10.000Rpm distributed to the rear wheels through a Tractive 6-Speed Gerbox to move the 835Kg Classic machine.
Tuned by GERENT Rennsporttechnik, it is pretty much the "BMW Motorsport Purists" dream, combining a highly strung, NA version of the Legendary S14 powerplant with lightweight dynamics devoid of any Electronic assists and just dependant of the driver´s skill. And on that Department, Mr. Orth, certainly doesn´t leave anything on the table.
This was also probably the last Season this Monster has raced in its 2.0L version. The engine is being sold and rumours are that during this year a new 2.5L NA unit will be installed. Should be interesting....

Since you asked, I'm thinking about the Honda Civic Type R 2.0 NA(K20A) that produces 220 horse stock comes close IMO.

I like turbo sounds, but they do muffle the scream an engine makes at really high rpm
Oh yeah the BMW 320is with a slightly downsized s14 M3 e30 engine. This was specifically made for the Italian market due to expensive taxes on engines bigger then 2000cc. This 320is was faster to 200 km/h then the actual M3 e30 because of its lower overall weight. The guy driving this piece of history really knows how to push it through the corners, amazing car!

yes he looks like the perfect driver to drive this perfect car. He knows the exact limits of the car and nearly becomes 1 with the car. The way this car moves is incredible.

Every part of the rev range sounds amazing.Some engines don’t sound good until the higher rev ranges, but this thing is musical everywhere!

I love EVs like I love petrol cars, not only for the technology and torque but also for the sound of some cars.
We shouldn't forget there are so many cars out there driving on our streets for 30 years and more. Why should this be different because of some new and some converted EVs? And most of the cars we drive daily doesn't have the sound and the smell of a racecar, what would change? 🤷🏽♂️
There are so many old racecars out there, driven several times a year, why should this change for the next 50 years? I think none of us will be old enough to see a future without petrol cars in the streets neither old racecars driven on events like this hillclimb.

My 320is have only S14-2L with 245HP /8500u/min and 960kg , but it is for the Nordschleife and his Time ist 8.10 min
S14 was the 2.3 liter who came in e30 M3

The S14 was in every E30 M3, US and Europe. What's different about this one that makes it Italy and Portugal only?
@@Bread996 it was a short stroke version of the m3 engine. Only 2 litres but revved even more freely

Somehow all my life I did love only two cars , BMW ( in my early years like kid) and later HONDA when I did move from Serbia to USA .
Than about 20 years ago my good friend sad :" why engineers do not put Honda engine in BMW body and this car will run 50 yrs without any problem just regular maintenance " . I think the same. I did make over 600000 miles with two Civics ( around 1 milion km ) without one single problem just changin oil , filters , belts and tires . Honda engines are far the best . But BMW body , suspension , braking , steering and traction is just far the best in the world . I had chance to try a tuned BMW M3 on the race track ( 415 HP , around 960 kg , 6 speed manual ) and that is amaizing car , something far the best I ever try . I did try also several Porsche cars tuned to around 600 HP but much hevier than BMW , also I did try Nisan GT-R ( standard from factory ) and also two iterations , one tuned for the roads to around 1000 HP ( but on race track when turbo is set to 32 psi and racing gasoline 108 octans power jump up to around 1800+ HP ) and that is a realy fast car , like monster . But on race track this M3 ( 415 HP , 960 kg ) can easily bit GT-R because of to much weight .
Also I was lucky to watch the fastest GT-R on the planet from AMS Performance ( because my cousin knows a few guys employees ) and I did watch a practicing before thay broke the wolrd record on 1/4 miles ( 6.84 seconds , max speed around 341 km/h ) in live . Thay did at that time times around 7 seconds , with engine tuned to 3500+ HP . And feeling was like earthquick of 5-6 Richter around , amaizing .
I did try all cars , Porches, Ferarris , BMW, many Marcedes , Audis , Subaru but nothing feels like this tuned BMW M3 for race track ( 415 HP and only 960 kg ) , steering , stability , braking . If I will give some numbers from 0-10 , will give for BMW 11+
But one very important sugestion not just for BMW ( but for Mercedes and Audi also , normal cars not racing , for customers ) stop to play to much with electronics from everywhere ( China, Burma, Vietnam and else ...................????) suner or later you will pay the price .
I'm the owner of Lexus IS250 AWD and this car has all parts 100% ( made in Japan) . Learn something before is too late .
And I sad earlier that I was Honda fun , but I did not buy Lexus , that was present from my Old company for several inovations . If I will spend money from my pocket will by probably Honda Civic Type R , but after Lexus it was to stupid to buy another car . Mabe later in a few years Civic Type R will come to my garage .

157hp per lit is a masterful engineering. Most of racing teams would go 100-125hp per lit, but this means some insane/expensive stuff inside. Suggestion - small clips from drivers/owners which would present themselves and the cars

@@bruining161 I've got a 325e so factory redline is at 4500rpm but we put an ecu in it without a limiter and I've had that motor over 7k before. They're not powerful but they're build like a brick shithouse. Swaps aren't too unreasonable either. M50/M52 swaps are pretty common and affordable
