Sugar was imported to England in the 14th century and was regarded as a spice and a luxury good. The desire for cheap and abundant sugar is a big part of what fueled the slave trade of later centuries. England didn't really start producing it's own sugar in the country until the 19th century, but because of the climate it's from sugar beets instead of sugar cane.
So excited for the wedding. I think Siofra' s dad could move in with the family as well & play a 'grandfather' role. I think taking care of her elderly father may have something to do with why she stayed unmarried for so long.
yes! i touch upon this in my next episode, but you 100% hit the nail on the head!
This is so fire... the transitions?? The cinematography?? The character development?? Literally so well done
AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! ;~;
I'M SCREAMING at Greg as a knight. So handsome! I didn't even recognize him until I saw the white swoop. "I wouldn't get off him either" girl please warn me the next time you're gonna drop a one-liner while I am drinking coffee lol. And Bryan! Melissa would be so proud, and I do hope we see more of him and possibly his wife, even/especially if he's none too pleased with George for remarrying so soon. And I'm so so SO excited to see your plans for Willow Creek succession/the dawn of war!
I downloaded the soulmate mod after last ep with John and Ercc and the first thing it did was tell me my sims who'd been married for twenty years and had four kids were not soulmates. No, her soulmate is the neighbour next door apparently, but I don't want that particular drama so I ignored it. The mod did assign Cassandra Goth as one of my kids' soulmates after that, however, so soulmate mod and I are cool again. (She's my Roman Empire. Every save. Every legacy. Every time lol.)
Sugar cane was an expensive import in northern Europe at this time, coming mostly from the middle east and southern Europe. (But if you want to logic the thing then John could have brought some to George from Tartosa, and/or the old chesnut: Windenburg isn't England its fine!) But most food sweetening, especially among peasant classes, came from honey until the colonial slave trade/triangle made sugar production faster and cheaper to meet increased demand.
Those wine bottles are giving 'Emmaline's wooden horse' vibes. Maybe he'll finally crack them open when his kids get married? I love a good childhood friends turned lovers trope, so nice to meet you Olivier 👀 And Siofra and George seem to both be a little bit goofy, I love that! Maybe in time their love will grow, dice rolls be willing!
i debated keeping that one-liner in there but i said eff it, and i'm glad LMAO the soulmate mod really is a toss-up. i haven't seen it doing anything insane, so i'm happy for the ercc/john revelation!!
and ahh thank you! john bringing sugarcane over could definitely work out for the storytelling. i've god a juice press that i've been dying to use lmao
AND YES the wooden horse that i still have in my household inventory! i'm crying about it! and i was 100% thinking about him bringing it out for one of their weddings or for a moment where he finally feels at peace. ): crossing my fingers for him and siofra! and that he isn't drafted, survives his adult roll, AND the plague. PHEW.
@@rinseesims I so want for George to know peace ♥
Ser Gregory! ❤ It's really something to see Cassian's son knighting Aemma's son, after everything. I wonder how much of what happened is still rolling around in the gossip mill or if it's faded away with the passing generation? Thank you for your hard work on the machinima & video!
ykw even though i was AWARE, i didn't really consider the cassian's son + aemma's son moment and now i'm cryin. thank you so much, i'm so happy you enjoyed it!
God your machinimas are so good and really set the mood!! How cool to see Gregory and Bryan get knighted and how foreboding, Florent's sisters at his side as he takes ill.... Man, seems like Joan's life isn't done being hella eventful yet, huh?
I did notice the UI right off the bat, glad you put up the names of the mods cos that's pretty cool, really helps create the medieval atmosphere!
Happy birthday Emma and Leoric!
I love the idea elaineharris had in their comment for Melissa's wines to be a family heirloom! Maybe a bottle could even make it all the way to modern times... Not realistic, per se, but very fun for the play-through!
I love Midnight and Maple's friendship ☺️💞
I can't wait for Siofra and George's wedding! I think you're right, even though it's not the kind of love match he and Melissa were, I think he and Siofra can have a perfectly lovely, amiable relationship. I'm looking forward to the royal ball, too, that will be fun! I wonder if Sophie and the girls will find some refined gentlemen suitors there...? 🤔
thank youu so much! if there's one thing about joan's life, it's gonna be hella eventful, but maybe less tragic as far as her own personal matters. lady's been through so much lol
i'm loving the wine input so much! but i definitely agree, george and siofra seem to be at a very friendly and respectful point, so even if the love isn't fully there (for now at least), i'm glad they can share a life together!!
I'm so happy there's a new knight in the family congrats Gregory! (I am so parasocial about sims that don't exist lol) the twins look so cute as children too. I hope George can get married soon they get along so well
the parasocial sims feels are so real LMAO
I’m so proud of Gregory. He finally got knighted, that’s so exciting!
It was great to see Melissa’s brother and that he's doing great. It might have been difficult for Melissa, to have her siblings be adopted but in the end, it was the right thing to do. I’m still sad that Melissa passed, when I saw the last wines she made, I got emotional.
I’m so happy that Margaret’s babies are fine and growing into childhood. Emma is so pretty. I swear the Rolfes have great genes.
Sophie was so “my single and ready to mingle,” her take in giving the announcement I’m ready to marry.🤣 It’s great that Sophie is getting along with Liliana and Ameila. That was so sweet that Amelia was supportive of Sophie’s playing harp skills. I'm excited for the ball episode and excited to know what happens in that event. I wonder if it’s only going to be royals and nobles from Windenburg or royals and nobles from other countries going to be invited, too.
I think Sioffra and George’s arrangement was pleasant. It makes sense, George is a widow who does the best to provide for his children and Sioffra is a sprinter who likely stresses for her well-being as she doesn’t know much time left her elder father has left. It’s not a relationship out of love but at least they have respect for each other.
Oh I love medieval wallpaper! I think it’s really cool. Sets the mood of the time period.
let's go greg!!! ngl, i completely forgot about the wine and then got a little sad while talking about it. the feels hit hard there!!!!! i'm really excited for what's to come, and i hope it all works out!! let's hope george can learn to love the way he loved melissa :/
I believe the wine George's wife made should be kept as a family heirloom and not opened until a century from now. Maybe a celebration of the main family moving from peasants to nobles and surviving the 100 year war. I love seeing women doing more than just housework and babies thanks for breaking up that mundane cycle. Also this family expanding into different social classes is better for a larger story arch, they will have struggles and worries and better understanding of multiple social classes. Also is there a funeral mod? It would not be big for the peasant classes but the nobility and especially royal families had HUGE funerals. I know in Sims 4 any event organized can be a nightmare but the Kings not having a funeral procession or big pomp and stance feels empty. Deals and feuds were made over who showed and did not show at funerals. Would have loved to see the mixed emotions at King Cassian's funeral.
omg a century from now would be so cool too! thank you so much as usual! and i believe there might be a funeral mod but i actually didn't have a whole lot of noble sims in my save + had to kinda keep moving and trying to focus more on george, i got a little overwhelmed at the time. but i 100% would have loved to have done a whole thing for cassian's funeral and mourning period! idk maybe i'll touch on it in a short clip for reels or something?? i have no clue how to use that freature lmao but yes, the drama for that would have been spectacular!
Sugar from sugarcane was not common at all in Europe until the colonial period and would be exceptionally expensive in this era. Sugarcane can't grow in the climates present in Europe so any refined sugar would have to be imported. People like the Rolfes would be sourcing their sweet flavours from places like honey instead
thank you for the information! i figured sugarcane itself was not super realistic, but i didn't know where else sugar might have been sourced from, so that's fun to learn! i think i'll just have the crop itself to harvest the "generic ingredient" for recipes like i do with some other harvestables that weren't exactly available at this time, moreso for the lot trait!
It did just occur to me if he gets the sugar from John and not sanctioned by the king through Florian, it could cause some trouble down the line since the crown does own all their land, and kings loved the taxes they could earn off the import of luxury goods - if there's a source for it right in Windenburg that ends up cutting into those profits, the crown may have something to say about it.
I'm finally catching up on videos and just loving them all.
Your line about Greg had me guffawing out loud. I mean, same!! He is Leoric's son after all.
I really like Sioffra and George. It makes sense and has potential blossoms of love and affection. Like it doesn't feel like he's moving on too quickly at all (even though we know we need him to be quick becahse of impending war). Maybe the war also plays into things too - political uncertainty maybe is like hey my family can help protect your family etc!!
On to catch up with next eps😊
The begin of the one hundreds year war is going to be very interesting and I'm very excited on how it's going to go. also I feel like Talia is probably very unfertile or maybe she and her husband keep fighting and arguing, both are bad I know.
that could definitely have attributed to their issues!! so sad ):
Your videos are consistently the best UDC content. Thank you for all the work you do.
thank you so much 🥹🥹 and thank you for your awesome input since the start
Ur videos give me life ❤😊
thank you so much!
Should save the wine for her future surviving children's weddings. So she still with them, even in spirit 😊 (joke totally intended)
the pun is punning! lol!
Is Amelia playing "Hot Cross Buns" at 15:37?? God, that takes me back to joining the school band in sixth grade 😂😂😂
I THOUGHT THE SAME THING. i think it's just scales but the first three notes took me back to mandatory recorder lessons in elementary school.
@@rinseesims The RECORDER...... Oh that REALLY takes me back... Omg yeah I did that too! Me and my sister both had our own reigns of terror over the household with our recorders 😂 What a truly diabolical instrument 😂😂😂
George and Siofra agreeing to make it a marriage of convenience reminds me of Aemma and Leoric: it may have been mostly out of convenience, but it was still filled with love (and a boatload of twins, for some reason). Hopefully it would be similar with George (but with less deaths😢😢😢 he needs to put our more heirs)
Also, congrats to Gregory for being knighted! He will be a great servant to the kingdom.
I'm not excited about the War, tho... fingers crossed we don't lose anyone (it's a big ask, but I'm really hoping the dice gods will be generous for them this time, unlike the famine😭😭😭).
ooooo i didn't consider the aemma and leoric comparison either, but you're so right! i need some good luck on his rolls coming up, that's all i want!! the recruitment is a toss up, but i know the death rolls for the war might be merciful! i just want the damn plague to be over and done with so i can rest.
@rinseesims there's a plague to worry about on top of the war?????? Geez, gen 2 Rolfe are in for a wild ride... Hopefully zero deaths on George's end since I feel like he's going through it the most right now 😔 it's fair game for everyone else tho ahaha (I'm kidding, hoping for survival with everyone else as well)
@@Summerierierish oh, gosh. my sweet summer (hehe) child. 1346 is gonna be the great equalizer because i have to flip a coin for everyone. 😭😭😭😭😭 it's gonna be bad. IT'S GONNA BE SO BAD.
@rinseesims DAMN THAT COIN FLIP IS PROLLY GONNA THANOS SNAP HALF THE POPULATION literally no one is safe 💀💀💀 both nervous for you and totally looking forward to that when the time comes
Sweet summer child tho, that's cute~ thank you🩷
Edit to add: did you mean 1346? Or 1946?
@@Summerierierish omg 1346** LMAO
Personally I don't like that medieval UI, but I love this series ❤
A new video yay!!!!🥰
