No autotune, No backing tracks, No enthusiastic electronic synth, nowhere to hide. Just singing her damn heart out!! Annnd THAT's how it's done folks. 💪😆😇😍😙👏👏👏💙💋💜💋💚#slaygoddess
i agree. it's wondeful 🙏 i also really like '' that i would be good '' and '' utopia '' in a more joyful/peaceful tone. the song '' Everything '' is very good as a auto-reverse (self-) love song, so is '' Guardian '' and '' magical child '' 🌟👍 Alanis is so good 🙏 pure magic.
I can't listen to this song, without getting misty. Not because of the lyrics, just because she sings so pure and brutal. Life-long fan since the Summer of 1995 and I've never been the same since then. Thank you Alanis.
No special effects. No fancy costumes or heavy make-up. She's wearing black trousers, a loose top and her hair is free. ALL ABOUT THE VOICE. And what a powerful performance this is. Makes you realise how shitty music is these days compared to back then...
I can completely vouch for this!!! 😃 I saw her in 96 in Chicago, and when she hit that high note she made the venue explode !!!! I was just so blown away!
Man!! I think alanis was one of my first cds i bought joe satriani surfing with the alien was my first. Alanis rocks imagine if she came out today i reckon shed give taylor swift a run for her money big time her voice is wicked❤
Lyrics: What's the matter Mary Jane, you had a hard day As you place the don't disturb sign on the door You lost your place in line again, what a pity You never seem to want to dance anymore It's a long way down On this roller coaster The last chance streetcar Went off the track And you're on it I hear you're counting sheep again Mary Jane What's the point of trying to dream anymore I hear you're losing weight again Mary Jane Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for Well it's full speed baby In the wrong direction There's a few more bruises If that's the way You insist on heading Please be honest Mary Jane Are you happy Please don't censor your tears You're the sweet crusader And you're on your way You're the last great innocent And that's why I love you So take this moment Mary Jane and be selfish Worry not about the cars that go by All that matters Mary Jane is your freedom Keep warm my dear, keep dry Tell me Tell me What's the matter Mary Jane...
My Favorite song from Allanis. I truly Love her voice on this one. No B.S over produced garbage like the so called Pop Music which stinks to High Heaven. No Offense God.
Imagine being a black kid, in a musical era where Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Alanis Morissette and Metallica were on replay during the True MTV era and soaking up all the music that era presented like a sponge. A friend of mine had this album... I asked to borrow it because the music spoke to me but this song in particular has resonated with me to this day. Glad i searched for this tonight. It's so nostalgic and classic, not only that but humanly poetic and beautiful. Outstanding artistry. 🙏 Everyone take care of yourselves! L.
please don’t ever delete this. i will listen to this everyday now. it’s so beautiful

I went to 3 shows of her in Brazil but not this one. Past my young age seeing it and dreaming with it. Now I'm waiting for the 25 years show in Brazil in November. Decades of waiting. So happy I'm going 😢😊❤
My childlike self thanks Alanis for making this song for our unheard voice at 7, 12, 19 yesss old. My adult shell praises her for making this song in homage to those pieces of us. This song speaks for us and unites us, describes and brings us into the Light.
"Its a long way down; on this rollercoaster". Absolutely love this Album - so beautiful and so true. "What`s the point of dreaming anymore!" Love u Alanis!
when i was 13 years...i wonder why i am her in 1996....why am i different.....was told by church and parents no-or smarten up but the lyrics of "worry not abaot the cars that go by'' was me i always rose to see who ha-my comfort
Finally decided to listen to her full album. I know 75 percent but i was a kid when it came out. As i got older i connected woth songs i knew but never HEARD. This song stood out to me. Wanted to see if I found a live version if she explained her pov. But this live is better than the recorded.
In her Spotify series “The Real Story of Jagged Little Pill,” Alanis describes this song by saying “It was my empathy for the feminine, for the vulnerable, and the self care, particularly for those of us who are service oriented and generous and the orientation in life is to give and ask questions later. For the people who are in a position of service for their career or otherwise, just a reminder to take care. And it was slightly influenced by a friend of mine at the time, just watching how sweet she was to me and sweet she was to everybody and then she would go home at night and be really depleted and in my case I would go home and be really depressed, so I just thought there was something that needed to be said about the self care needing to be upped and the empathy. Being in context with so many narcissistic people, the two qualities that disappeared were curiosity about well-being, like even just a "How you doing?” That would never happen for emotional well-being. That wasn’t even a consideration… and then empathy. Often, there was no empathy. So, that song was my way of turning it around and singing to myself in a lot of ways. I would often listen to that song on tour and pretend that “woman” was singing to me."
almost fifteen years loving her and her songs it´s just fabulous and amazing the way she sings i´ve never got the chance to see her live but I believe its one of those experiences you simply can´t forget.....thanks alanis ..your music makes to me the world a better place to be

Life is short, make it right with your sis.
this song feels like being hugged, when you are sad and need to be alone...many many thanks to alanis

EXACTLY
But lots of reverb. Not knocking this performance but backing tracks and synths don’t make for a poor performance.
Just wait until they find out what goes on in the making of a studio album lmao

BIG FACTS
Still a brilliant song in 2024. Outstanding performance too.
This to me is one of the best vocal performances EVER!
❤
*Alanis wails*
*_Jagged Little Pill is a quintessential rock album for anyone who is broken and hurting. And this song is pure therapy_*
i agree. it's wondeful 🙏

Torally true! Thakyou for this take on a wonderful album and an amazing song.
I can't listen to this song, without getting misty. Not because of the lyrics, just because she sings so pure and brutal. Life-long fan since the Summer of 1995 and I've never been the same since then. Thank you Alanis.
A voice that can't be replicated!
No special effects. No fancy costumes or heavy make-up. She's wearing black trousers, a loose top and her hair is free. ALL ABOUT THE VOICE. And what a powerful performance this is. Makes you realise how shitty music is these days compared to back then...
Love ALL these songs
Goosebumps in 2023
2024!🤟🏻
The girl has serious pipes, revisited Jagged Little Pill a week ago and haven't put it back yet, amazing!
And she sings better live.
I listened to JLP again last Saturday and haven't stopped 5 days later. Incredible album!!
gReAtHiTs saw her in 96 and that high note sounds just as clear an powerful as it did back then. Makes the hairs on my arm stand with goosebumps!
I can completely vouch for this!!! 😃 I saw her in 96 in Chicago, and when she hit that high note she made the venue explode !!!! I was just so blown away!
One of the beautiful musical poetries ever written. It's not a song but it's a poetry.
Man!! I think alanis was one of my first cds i bought joe satriani surfing with the alien was my first. Alanis rocks imagine if she came out today i reckon shed give taylor swift a run for her money big time her voice is wicked❤
This performance gives me goosebumps!
There should be a love button in youtube. Just pressing a like doesn't satisfy me when the video is like this.
This should’ve been a single too
It speaks of the mid-90s zeitgeist so brilliantly.
Lyrics:
What's the matter Mary Jane, you had a hard day
As you place the don't disturb sign on the door
You lost your place in line again, what a pity
You never seem to want to dance anymore
It's a long way down
On this roller coaster
The last chance streetcar
Went off the track
And you're on it
I hear you're counting sheep again Mary Jane
What's the point of trying to dream anymore
I hear you're losing weight again Mary Jane
Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for
Well it's full speed baby
In the wrong direction
There's a few more bruises
If that's the way
You insist on heading
Please be honest Mary Jane
Are you happy
Please don't censor your tears
You're the sweet crusader
And you're on your way
You're the last great innocent
And that's why I love you
So take this moment Mary Jane and be selfish
Worry not about the cars that go by
All that matters Mary Jane is your freedom
Keep warm my dear, keep dry
Tell me
Tell me
What's the matter Mary Jane...
2:57-3:06 face melting awesomeness
a soulful performance of easily the best song off of "JLP" imo,and that note at 2:57 ..good lord does it get any more epic than that?
CHILLS! I’m such a fan! I was 13 when JLP came out. I’d sit on my bedroom floor and sing at the top of my lungs and cry, paint, be in my feelings
Fudge I luv her and this song absolute gem and also see what she's wearing a big tee and jeans.....go my girl massive fan ❤ u always
Took me back 24 years, simply stunning
What a SUPER voice. This was the 1st I've seen of her on CBC television back in the day, and from that day I've been a fan.
Goose bumps, so authentic and awesome !

That final riff has me in tears.
I connected with the musical so much. My story was different, but this song has so much emotion.
