Spent half an hour chasing them trying to find what they lead to I like how they made this game feel real
Mayne when i saw that scarf drifting in the air, i kept following it and after a long time of following it, it dissapeared when it entered a cave. So as i got into the cave i killed all of the enemies and turns out there was lots of loot in the cave
SNIPEZ I saw a guy with a dog head in the distance and followed couldn't see him nemore so I started heading back and I see this Greek pointing and I followed didn't find much bc he just sat on stairs

The intention was probably that. They know that's how we've conditioned to think by games: follow weird living thing that It will reveal something. But It never does deliver. That way they add to the Mystery and keep It alive, without killing the immersion and the Sense of awe and fantastical by giving an answer
Having played the game for over 60 hours, I've seen all of these countless times and they still freak me out, especially when the music starts playing.
GrandTheftDiamonds Same, the music gives me an uneasy anxious feeling and I’m not sure as to why.
This is why I never go to Deshert Desert anymore.

I approached the pyramids and it started to play the mystical music so I just assumed it was cause I was approaching a key landmark and then the voice called to me and I saw the burning bush and was like oh shit

I got one with Ptolemy sitting on the mount, behind Bayek, shouting from the top of his lungs; "BOW TO YOUR KING, EGYPTIAN!" Needless to say, I had to pause playing for a bit... scared the desert shit out of me.

That happened to me and I saw a kneeling Bayek that had a staff and the staff turned into a snake
The time his son stood and called out to him, and there were kids drawings in the sand, I actually felt for the dude a lot...
It fucking happened in the locust storm too... so that shit was also kinda creept
I actually recogniced some of these mirages as things that are written in the bible: the flaming bush is the form that god took when he was speaking to moses and the fire was warm but it didn't burn ,the one in that the man rams his staff into the ground and it becomes a snake is a refrence to when moses was performing all types of miracles to free his people ,I'm guessing that the one when flies (or whatever they're called) attack you is a refrence to when moses was cursing egypt to free his people
Also the battle Moses fights in that turned into a complete slaughter in his favor because of his powers given to him by God.

1.yes the battle ended in a slaughter ,but if you're talking about the battle in the red sea then moses only did that because he needed to protect his people and needed to kill so they didn't get killed themselves or captured
2.moses din't really have any powers ,it was god that did all of that ,he just did that through the staff that moses had
Locusts is the word you are looking for, Ghost. I believe it was one of the Ten Plagues God sent unto Egypt because of Pharoah's defiant refusal to release his people (the Israelites). So it makes sense to feature some of them in this game. I thought it was a nice touch.

It was a different one and was after the Red Sea, as they were looking for the promise land they were attacked. The battle raged on for a long time but as long as Moses kept his hands lifted they would win but the fight continued for so long and his hands were getting tired so some people helped keep his hands lifted. God granted him some power but it was through God that he could do any of it, so you’re partly right. It was God doing it but it also sort of wasn’t. It’s weird to explain.

I lost my shit with the locusts swarm when I was playing. Had no idea what to do
I didn't have the chance to get the achievement for seeing the locust storm cause it crashed my console

They didn't overdo it with the mystical stuff as things like this (mirages) happen in real life too
It just adds to the world and the mystical... Mysterious vibe, like the assassin's are themselves
You could play things over and over and see things over and over but they will still have that "awe" effect when it randomly does happen! It's amazing
It makes sense, ezio and renaissance hits those notes, and so does bayek and ancient eqypt, they just have that element
The only mirage i have seen so far is the fish one and when i found it i was so confused. I thought for a second that it fell from the sky but when i saw it disappear i realised it was only a mirage 😂

Some of these mirages went full on biblical, their extremely unnerving. Especially, ironically enough, for a Christian.

I recently started playing and the game sets you right in the desert after leaving Siwa. A few seconds later I already had a female ghost-like figure sitting in the saddle behind bayek and I heard some woman whispering, so I was really confused. Another time I saw a flickering bandit on a horse who decided to attack me. I was so stressed out because a few times it seemed like I couldn't hit him and I would just die in the desert from a hallucination. The last thing I saw was the red shawl in a sand storm and I tried to follow it but lost it in the sand.
I really love this game for these details.

Xavier 7392 odds are a reference to the 1st civilization and how advanced they were. Maybe OK a flashback/mirage of a test they done with early age rockets.
It could be a biblical reference to the "Fire" that rained down in a Bablon like town in Old Testament, where one of the people who was escaping the event turn into a pillar of salt, just by looking at it.
it could also be a reference to scientific explanations of sodom’s fall, and how it’s been linked to airburst events
Technically, they aren't mirages because mirages are when the heat waves that you see make the blue sky go onto the ground so that it looks like water. Hallucination would be the correct term

The first time I ever got one of these, I was riding and all of a sudden I started hearing sounds of battle..swords clashing, people screaming, the like. There was a path of trees, so I followed it as the sounds got louder..I kid you not I about just turned off my ps4 and left the room

I've seen the burning bush 3 times, the raining bugs, the lotus, the meteors(I didn't even know it was a mirage lol) but the weirdest one was near Giza.There was a guy running and I chased him and the further he ran the louder sounds of war got and ominous voices started shouting, then a bandit ran out of nowhere and attacked me, wasn't sure if it was part of the mirage or just coincidence.

fuckedup610 it actually is lol. Before seeing any type of mirage, you would get that sort of focus effect and it pans to what you would look at. I also got to see the raining insect mirage yesterday which was pretty cool

Currently playing this & enjoying every moment of it. Witcher 3 will always remain my fav RPG but this game is fantastic in its own way. I just wish they could have added more spooky elements to some of the side quests (maybe Witcher side-effect lol xD)

The desert always felt so lonely yet so hostile in this game, the mirages certainly help built that sense of dread that you are in an environment hostile to humans

Mirokuofnite I think it may just be a funny little attack on religions. Shows that the burning bush and other things associated with Judaism (and by extention Christianity) could have just been hallucinations.

Religious people actually worked with the developers too, because obviously, they wanted specialists on this subject portraying a very religious nation and the multiple religions that are being spoken of in the game.

And I came across one in the dessert at the bottom of the map and a boy was pointing in a direction so I followed and it took me to a tomb of sorts the one with the mirrors and eventually getting that weird dialogue

The locusts, burning bush and some others are a reference to the plagues and experiences from Moses and God in the Bible. I quite liked the reference in the game.

I once saw sceptimius mocking bayek, the other time I saw Taharqa walking around while Bayek was dug into the ground with only his head sticking out, it was the storyline of the scarab, I believe
I haven’t really “explored” the desert like this but I’ve seen the scarf one while on a mission...it’s kinda just floating there and when I catch up to it, it doesn’t lead me anywhere...it’s just floating back and forth

It was so cool, I had just finished beating the phylake that is a master with his sword in the dessert, and literally right after I put my sword away and walk like a badass, the illusion at 3:09 locks on into the sky and it was executed so perfectly

My first mirage was when someone was sitting on the back of Morgan Freeman ( my horse which has freckles) it was made out of sand and didn't disappear until i got off my horse
i find it really scary when a supposed egyptian waves at you but when you approach him he vanishes to dust !

And an undead Nubian priest digging around in the sand like he's lost something.
There’s an achievement for getting the raining scarabs mirage. It was also the first mirage I got. Lucky and also terrifying.

My first hallucination was a woman’s ghostly voice calling me towards a random fire in the middle of nowhere, I had just got the game and played until about 3am. Holy shit I was freaked out.
I was playing at 1am trying to get the last stone circle in the depression area for the costume and got a silent guy appear on the back of my horse just saying nothing. It freaked the fuck out of me because of how tired I was lmao.
Overall these mirages added to the game are so fucking beautiful

The one with the well is a reference to uncharted 3 if memory serves. It’s not a very well known thing in uncharted 3, but you would find a mirage of a well that looks just like that and then it would disappear when you got close.

I don't know how good the new games are as an "Assassin creed" game..but the newer entries are fantastic games gorgeous and filled with details like these..
