    Material Transition effect or Material burn effect. In this shader, I will show you how to transition from one texture to another. This can be used to make various effect for example a burn effect. Where a wood burn into charcoal and you will be also able to see the flame in the middle. This effects are similar to my planar dissolve effect and my disintegration effect.We will create a simple material function with the 3 color blend node to achieve this effect.

    If you hook up a component mask from a texture coordinate (R or G) to the Gradiant pin, you can use this for spline meshes like a match fuse or so. Pretty awesome! Thanks alot, took me houers of fumbling bevore I found your video that fixed it in minutes :D

    I think what might make this most effective is how in most tutorials doing this effe t, they explain this type of effect only works on a mesh as one material. So you'd have to create a second Material layer channel on your mesh for the transition to work; but if this tutorial is any indication, that might not be necessary, and I should be able to add two textures in one and allow for the effect to transition the opacity of the two.

    Outstanding video! Combined a LOT of different effects in less than 30 minutes in an easily followed way. A lot of other videos assume that you are already proficient with Unreal Engine and sometimes does not mention explicitly what they just did at some points. A must see for those not yet that good with UE. Just 1 question. Does anyone know how to make the transition start from the middle and go both ways up and down?

    Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. This is my first unreal tutorial and everything is working smoothly. I was wondering if there was a way to add an opacity mask to one of the two main materials. Also, is there a way to access the 'Amount' parameter with for example a keypress?

    • @UnrealCG
      @UnrealCG  5 років тому

      Yeah there, Watch this tutorial in this I show how to access the amount parameter with a material parameter collection and also show how to add opacity.

    Is there a way for the textures of the wood and rock to ignore the emissive output? I just don't want those textures to glow like an emissive, just the gradient.
    EDIT: Oh nevermind I just multiplied the textures that don't have emissive by 0.1, that did the trick.

    Hey can you tell me how can we have different material function applied to same character or geo and animate it in sequencer. Like a character first he will glow and than he will burn and disappear, so I have all these material but i don't know how to incorporate it. Maybe you can help❤❤

    Im using this material but because its plugged in to emissive it has a glow? Id like to use it for base but when i do it makes my texture patchworked? Would love to know why haha

  • @TGA19
    @TGA19 5 років тому

    @UnrealCG this might be a stupid question ,but what if all you need is to have the fire burn texture from 2:43? are all the other nodes necessary?

    • @UnrealCG
      @UnrealCG  5 років тому

      Yeah, You don't need the nodes that control the opacity if you just want the burn fire effect.

    • @TGA19
      @TGA19 5 років тому

      @@UnrealCG Yeah, you made MF material and then you referenced . In the effect. I just want to make that fire itself without needing to control the transition with MF. I made something that'll pass ,out of fresnel and a texture ,but it doesn't look anywhere near good lol😀.

    thanks for the tutorial, anybody knows how I could recreate this effect with only a single image ? I have a text image that I'd like to appear from nothing using this transition

    • @TheLord7even
      @TheLord7even 3 роки тому

      Use a component mask (R or G) from a texture coordinate and hook that up to the gradiant pin. Works for spline meshes and also should work for images/planes
