omg i absolutely love how you placed the photo side by side and made an effort to explain each colour and stroke decision....this is so helpful I hope you realise!
youre slowly becoming my favorite artist , i havent yet touched oil painting but you inspire me to further practice a "messy yet refined" look for my ink work
This is an ingenious tutorial. This is modern day Bob Ross. He even gave different high def perspectives of Neville in the beginning of the video. After mastering the main tutorial, he left us with homework. Thanks for this Sensai.
Neville is so cute!! You painted him so good and even captured the same mood in your painting that I got from the reference picture- calm and happy. Amazing work!!
I love your art SO MUCH!!! It simultaneously makes me want to quit making things forever, *and also* quit doing anything that *isn't* making things so I can make things as full of life and character and form as your creations are!!!!
This has to be one charming little painting, in person. I’m inspired. I want my own little cat painting ha, ha. Some little creature, anyway. Thanks for this; enjoyed it very much!
Oh my god! I have seen the painting on tumblr before and was so mesmerized by it! So cool to see the process behind it! Really love the bold paint strokes and colors!
LOVE how you spot all the little colors!. And how you got that bright sun on him on the side really nice Job! seeing the transformation WOW ITS BEUTAFULL NICE JOB YOUr REALLy talented.. :D
As an art student, I feel like I'm learning more from watching you and Zimou Tan paint than my professors. This video in particular was very informative. Thanks for making these videos!
I think a major part of painting that I never really thought about is the actual blending of colors on the canvas/paper to create the final desired shade.
Thank you so much for doing this, learn so much from just watching you paint, even I do digital painting and I've never done traditional painting before. Your music choice is really nice too, if you don't mind telling what the songs in the video, that would be nice :D
Hey John! been following you on instagram for a while, now I've discovered your youtube! These are amazing videos, you're a seriously good painter. you're a big inspiration
/subbed ..for the master sensei level, on the spot mixologistics, some snappy beats to enjoy the journey and slapping paint around with no fear. word... i can dig it
LarrivaArt you fool! you were supposed to destroy the sith... not love them XD (i love your art and cat btw i dont even do oil painting but its really interesting)
your works are amazing! do you think a similar blending effect could be achieved with thickened acrylics? My problem is that they dry up so quickly, you either go for a cell-shading piece or work super fast with them!
Thanks. I'm mostly using gamblin oil paints as they have a regular consistency that I've become used to. I'm usually using flat synthetic brushes, the cheap kind.
This is such a beautiful painting, I love your bold style using thick strokes. Also the editing was really fun!
Thanks!
I also love paintings of subjects that are in an intense sunlight in dark backgrounds
What do you call those anywaysss.??
pro tip: watch series at flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Marshall Cruz Yea, have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself =)
@Marshall Cruz Yea, been using Flixzone for since december myself :D
omg i absolutely love how you placed the photo side by side and made an effort to explain each colour and stroke decision....this is so helpful I hope you realise!
I totally agree Manasvi! Except for the music. But then again... I'm old AF.
youre slowly becoming my favorite artist , i havent yet touched oil painting but you inspire me to further practice a "messy yet refined" look for my ink work
I struggle with mixing colors a lot, so having that little red circle there was very helpful. Thanks Larriva!

I love it at 5:41. Love the blocks of color only.
Of course the final result is great too. Love how you captured the sunlight. Thanks. :)
