Your beautiful presentation of this trip almost had me forgetting how if felt riding this route in Sept/October this year. "Pesky flies" ha ha ,what a delightful understatement. The couple running the Coward Springs campground said the flies were the worst they had experienced in the 5 years they had been living there. However, their home made date & coffee ice cream was so very delicious and refreshing. Especially after the traffic, corrugations, dust & flies( i experienced) along the Maree to Coward Springs part of the Oodnadata Highway. Nonetheless, the Mawson and Apatula to Alice Springs tracks were actually really splendid to ride. So i do wish i had the skill and patience that you have to capture the beauty experienced along the way.
You can't truly convey to people how bad the flies are out there - you need to experience it to understand it. It's an amazing place to ride in that part of Australia. Glad you enjoyed the film. Have a look at the Red Centre bikepacking route if you want to do another ride in Central Australia someday. Enjoy.
@@MickTurnbullFilms Hi Mick. The Red Center video was fantastic. Your bird shots are just superb. I have been checking out your work as part of an endeavor to patch together a mostly dirt /gravel route (from here in South West Victoria) to Darwin. I managed about 2/3 off bitumen from here on the way to Alice but i think from Alice to Darwin it is a tad more difficult. The Binns to Timber Creek looks like a possibility for getting a fair way up. I see you rode part of the Binns so am interested to know what you reckon?
@kenbaker347 I originally planned to ride more of the Binns Track south of Alice, but water was an issue. The stuff I ride was generally good quality. If you can find water, I think it would be interesting to have a go.
@@kenbaker347 This was the route I planned. I couldn't find any water that was reliable from Old Amado Station to Santa Teresa. Spoke to a number of people who had driven it, but they didn't know of water points. That being said, when in a car you look at the landscape differently to when on a bike. I think it was about 300km between known water points - a long way when not sure of the road condition. ridewithgps.com/routes/42338215
Hi Mick, what a wonderful video! It convinced me to add this to my bikepacking trip across the outback next winter. What is the most water you've had to carry along for each of you? And how did you carry it? Many thanks and I look forward to your next video!
@@MickTurnbullFilms Okay thanks! I'll be making my way north along the Tanami Track and others, do you think 22L for one person will suffice for those stretches?
@@Whatevah232 I haven't ridden there, so couldn't say if that would be enough water. This blog will give you some good info. Good luck and it's a stunning landscape out there. cycletrailsaustralia.com/2_trails/tanami-track-nt-wa

@@MickTurnbullFilms Thanks for your response, Mick. Interested to know exactly what the issue was. Was it more than 3 days between water refills?

Epic. I would love to do something like this, but at nearly 60 and single time is fast catching up. Do you have a video of the bike / gear used?
Thanks. Bikes were Surly ECR's. Gear was minimal camping stuff, but a couple of times we had 22 litres of water between us.

Thanks. It was a really great ride. We had 22lt of water between the 2 of us. We carried it in bottles and bladders.
