  • What is the best technique and the best frequency for tongue scraping? How to clean your tongue.
This is the final video in a five-part series on tongue cleaning. The first four were:
    • Effects of Tongue Scraping on Plaque, Gingivitis, and Cavities (nutritionfacts.org/video/effe...)
    • Tongue Scraping vs. Tongue Brushing for Treating Halitosis (Bad Breath) (nutritionfacts.org/video/tong...)
    • Does Tongue Scraping Cause Cancer? (nutritionfacts.org/video/do-t...)
    • How Tongue Scraping Can Affect Heart Health (nutritionfacts.org/video/how-...)
Let me re-emphasize some of the main points. If increasing your salt sensitivity was all tongue scraping did, then that alone would make the practice worthwhile, even if you already have fantastic breath and even if your blood pressure is pristine. Excess sodium does more damage than just increase our blood pressure. So, anything we can do to make food taste saltier so we add less salt, the better.
In terms of technique, do it daily and do it gently, just along the top surface, but make sure to include the back of the tongue. The two preferred brands in the study I mentioned were meridol and “Scrapy.” Unfortunately, I think they’re both only sold in Europe, but, as I said, you can just use a simple spoon. And, in terms of sanitizing without worrying about a vinegary aftertaste, remember the microwave-for-one-minute trick and save yourself from having to keep buying toothbrushes. Here is my video on the best water purifier I mentioned: Is It Best to Drink Tap, Filtered, or Bottled Water? (nutritionfacts.org/video/is-i....

A note on microwaving. Microwave radiation is calibrated to excite water molecules, meaning that if the toothbrush is dry it won't heat much. But no matter how dry a toothbrush is, the interior of an individual bacteria will still contain water and will still heat, so yes, it *is* still the temperature, but in an odd pinpoint sort of way.
Another way of looking at it is the toothbrush stays cold because there aren't enough bacteria to heat it.

      Here is the conclusion:
Use a tongue cleaner each time you brush your teeth. Just a simple dedicated, manual, plastic loop-style tongue cleaner is best, or just use an inverted tablespoon. Don't scrape too hard, don't scrape the sides, but do the scrape the very back of your tongue. Just scrape the full top surface. I personally use a tongue cleaner 2-4 times a day.

This is a very bright idea, to clean the tongue! But why stop there, how about using some contraption with Listerine to do the same with a large intestine?! That way, our poop will be odor-free, we could change it's color too 😜
Or maybe instead, we should eat the right food and halitosis will be gone by itself. It's all about balance between good and bad bugs. I wonder, if the tongue is the place, where microorganisms grow like in a petri-dish, so our immune system has a chance to prepare itself in advance, to fight specific pathogens. Respect and imitate the nature.

    • @trapezius77
