    I am very happy I found this video. I am getting ready to tow a lot with my 01 7.3. I was thinking I was going to have to dump thousands in a bigger turbo and giant injectors and tuning. I'm going over to watch your turbo video now, then I'll head over to your page for the my build list you mentioned. I'm new to diesels, but not trucks or towing, so thank you for breaking this down for dummies like me!

    I have a obs. When I needed new injectors I chose the full force diesel 160cc to pair with my stock turbo. It worked well. Adding a 6.0 intercooler and 1.0 turbine definitely helped. My next step is going to be a kc stage 1 turbo. I pretty much only drive back and forth to work and tow a big trailer occasionally. The setup has worked well for me.

    Have been a diesel tech for years. I do alot of side work upgrading and putting performance parts on these and newer truck. This is one of the best explanations on how the injector works and the changes that occur when increasing the cc of the injector. The information is going to be helpful for me in the future advising clients. Would also like to here more on the tube side of this dynamic. As well as how vgt turbos would play into this furmula.

    I just came across your video trying to decide if I should go to a bigger injector with my setup. Thanks so much for this information, a lot of what you said is still Japanese to me. (I'm not Japanese) but i believe the setup i have and what i use the truck for is probably the best i could ask for. I'm not into "rolling coal" or wasting fuel. Appreciate the video.

    Dusty,
    Thanks you for your time and knowledge about these 7.3 dinosaurs, I had a few email/phone conversations with you and I'm very happy I did before my build.
    2001 excursion, 180/30 rosewood injectors paired with T4 363sxe 68mm turbine super responsive set up and great for towing. Like u said "don't get small hybrids buy a CNC stage 2 HPOP for those 180/30's" and I did, thanks again!

    I can’t remember if I commented or not but a year ago I installed 205/80s with the KC300x 66/73, stock up pipes and raw, I no intercooler yet. I have a core but need to make endtanks. I did splurge on a built trans and a 2000 stall converter, which helps a lot getting the turbo spooling. For stock heads and internals it sure is a bruiser around town. Its fast enough for me. I really enjoy locking up half way through 2nd. That 3rd gear is bonkers.

    Hi, this information is exactly what we need before just watching a few videos about a certain turbo and huge over stock injectors and thinking that this is all that we need for our dream build. The truth is we need a sound plan first before we buy any other than stock parts.

    This was very helpful and I now have a better understanding ( customer expectations) :-)
    I would really like you to split the OBS and Superduty 7.3's in vids.
    Does your website have a spreadsheet with what goes with what (injectors + turbo)?
    Plus add-ons like exaust, intercooler and fuel pump? Also especially what order to do build.
    Thanks for the info 👍

    Hi I have a 2002 f550 7.3l all stock.Its a flatbed tow truck.Can u please tell me which will be the best injectors for my truck and is it the same if u put remanufactured injectors or should I put brand new.Thank u for all the info 👍

    • @mruss2237
      @mruss2237 3 роки тому

      Just curious… does the 550 still have the 4r100 transmission or is it a more heavy duty one? I only ask bc I have a 99 250 cclb 4x4 and I put injectors in (plus other supporting mods) and about 5-6 months later my stock 4r100 was shot. Just thinking that if add power to something that does heavy work like a tow truck, that your trans may fail before long like mine. I ended up spending around 4k on a bulletproof one plus about 5-600 more for larger trans cooler and temp gauge. Was a lot compared to stock prices but glad I did. Did not want to replace it more than once. Now, I did put 238/80s in mine which you obviously wouldn’t do but my trucks likely considerably lighter and hauls less weight. Hopefully you don’t have same issue but just wanted to share my experience. That said, 1023 knows their stuff. Dusty helped me quite a bit. More than most would. I actually knew if I did that build then I would need a built trans before long bc of him. Plus he made some pretty solid tunes for my truck.. still running them. Definitely reach out to them/him and see what your options are.
      **Also, I could be wrong but I believe they are all rebuilt. At least that’s what I found 5 years ago. Think they rebuild stock ones with the upgraded parts.

    I ended up going with 160/0 with my kc300x stage 1. I'm looking for a clean and cool towing 300hp for my international. The truck itself is 17,500 with one welder and with both it's 18,000 then I add the 36" box trailer. I've really been hoping I've been going down the right path versus swapping in a DT466 but for the most part now I'm committed. But if Ford guys are doing 400hp 7.3 builds and claiming to tow 30k I don't see why 300hp isn't achievable.
    Right now the truck is
    PHP Orion tuner
    Bellowed uppipes
    EBPV delete
    KC300X Stage 1 .83 housing
    HPOP crossover
    Things waiting for install at end of month
    ARP Headstuds
    160cc injectors
    910 valve springs
    New valve stem seals
    Glow plugs
    E Fuel Conversion with Bowl delete
    Regulated return.
    Thanks for your video. I'm glad I cam across it.

      I wanted to say thank you,
      I drove the truck into the mountains a few weeks ago grossing 27k.
      I never dropped below 45mph once and I was gear bound for a decent amount of it at 65mph. Most of the time the speed drop was me dropping a gear to bump RPMs up to cool down the motor. I was still very nervous after dropping basically 5 grand into a smaller diesel motor when there are other larger options out there I could have gone.
      My next round of thing I want to do is install a 13 speed RTLO road ranger and drop/shorten the bed.
      The transmission would help me with 3 things.
      A. I'd have an overdrive for the flat lands.
      B. I need a stronger clutch, If I turn my tunes up the truck will now blow past the clutch I have. Which also means I'm probably near the torque capacity of the current transmission anyways.
      C. The gear difference is much closer so I won't drop as much road speed if I do have to down shift.

    I have a 2001 7.3L. It has ad code injectors on all 8 cylinders. So I have a question . What is the difference between ad code and ae code injectors ? Because I have heard that 1-7 cylinders should be ad and cylinder 8 should be ae code.

    • @INFRNL1
      @INFRNL1 Рік тому +1

      AE is a long lead injector (LL). I think they were used in 02/03 but i could be mistaken. AE is used on #8 only. I believe it was to help resolve a deadhead issue and supposedly helps quiet the system. I can't remember all the details. I run hybrids, so they are all the same

    • @1023DieselFleet
      @1023DieselFleet  Рік тому

      As @infrnal1 stated the AEs purpose was to solve a “cackle” that some 99.5-2003 trucks had in some conditions.
      It’s generally better to solve this problem (if it matters to you) by installing a Regulated Return fuel system or a fuel rail crossover rather than using a different injector. There are a lot of other reasons to use an aftermarket fuel system though besides solving a elusive cackle

    • @INFRNL1
      @INFRNL1 Рік тому

      sorry, i was mistaken just a touch. It was to help with cackle. Which is essentially to help quiet it a bit. Whether it actually helped IDK.

    • @1023DieselFleet
      @1023DieselFleet  Рік тому

      Correct, it’s did not really solve a problem. Not really sure you could even call the original concern a problem but there are certainly better solutions than the AE

    How far can you detune a 400/400 injector. I am in the process of building my motor but don’t have the money for a hpop and a fuel system, I plan on running whatever injection I get detuned to around 400 wheel horsepower. I have plans to make 700 plus after I get a transmission and fuel system that’ll handle it. So my main question is, is it possible to run 400/400 full force injections detuned to around 400 wheel?

    "injection pressure" is NOT accurate. the ratio math is fine but there is a hole in the nozzle so there is no way you should ever see the theoretical "injection pressure"

  • @MP2Diesel
    @MP2Diesel 3 роки тому +1

    One thing in the A code vs Hybrid argument is that there is a pressure drop across the poppet valve. That ultimately makes the A code injection pressure at the nozzle less than the same cc Hybrid with the same nozzle.The hybrid ends up being the faster injector.
    Swamps tested this over a decade ago on the bench, that is what brought about the concept of 200cc hybrids with 30, 80, 100 nozzles

    • @MP2Diesel
      @MP2Diesel 3 роки тому

      The point of the 200cc Hybrid with 30% over nozzle isn't to get 200cc of fuel, it is to have an injector that is larger fuel volume and uses significantly less HPO than an A code. It makes all the sense over a Stage 2 A code.
