    For 5.1.3 the friction on the free body diagram shouldn't it be fs since it's static friction instead of it being fk

    Hello sir and thanks a lot for this informative video. On the last question, they want acceleration right. Couldn't we have just substituteed our tension that we already got minus kinetic friction =5×a then we divide by 5 both sides instead of having these two equations

    Mr Nkosi. The past paper question you did, why is it kinetic friction and not static friction?

      more of the same. Fs and Fk will always be equal to μk.N
      Hopefully that makes sense

      So static friction is when you have a stationery object and kinetic friction is for moving.
      Both are calculated in the same way but the coefficients would be different.

    sir for 5.1.3, it gave us the coefficient for static friction and not kinetic friction. wont fnet be equal to 0 if we're using static friction

    Sir after calculating tension is it possible to get your final answer as nagative tension

      If done correctly, what you should get is the magnitude of the tension (which is positive) because you've already compensated for direction in the initial step

      Eg. Like Aeroplane pulling two objects with certain tension in between. And last tension between object first object and the aeroplane. Given the force of the aeroplane (air resistance is ignored)... Please 😭🙏🙏🙏🙏

      You can choose any direction you want, unless they tell you which direction the blocks move.

      it only accelerates down when the mass of the 12kg block changed to 5kg. Makes sense because 8kg>5kg

      it is not necessary to choose the same direction as the object, but it is advisable to do so just to avoid any mistakes and any confusion

      Remember forces are vector quantities. Vector quantities have magnitude and direction. Suppose we choose a particular direction (say downwards) to be positive, it will mean every force that is downwards will be positive and every force pushing or pulling upwards will be negative.
      By definition Fnet or Fres is the vector SUM of force. Therefore, we will add forces and take direction into consideration.

    how do we know if our Tension should be positive or Negative, Because you sometimes say "it is going down, therefore, is Positive" while on other questions you say "It is going down then it will take negative"

      Please watch the video before this one. So it all depends on your choice of direction. Rule of thumb says you take direction of motion as your positive.
