Hello again Ali ☺. Thanks for the tour, your home has lots of potential, once a snug for just your and Luna. And has previously discussed I would seriously think about giving up the allotment, there is SO much growing space in the garden for just yourself. Grow in a raised bed, in pots, and even on the decking. Nice and private and secure for Luna too. Sending love, light & Autumnal Blessings 🍁🍄🍂🐶🐾 xx
Yes I've decided I will be giving up the allotment and turning my garden into a growing space. I've already made a start which I'll show in a video some time soon 🙂
You’ve done well in 4 months Ali. It takes a long time to settle into a new home to get it how you want it I love your art work - such beautiful colours ☺️
Thanks Ali for the tour of your house. I like the compactness - less to have to clean and tidy . Your outside deck and garden area is great. Health to enjoy your new home.
Your wee home is adorable! We downsized 10 years ago, best move we ever made. This is by far the smallest home we've ever owned but it is most definitely my favourite. I felt at home as soon as I walked in.
I'm sure that parquet floor could be restored and if you get the right advice, re paint, the Kitchen cabinets will come up a treat too. I repainted a similar kitchen, but in slightly worse condition than yours, during Covid on a property I intended to sell and you would never have guessed. I too retired early and have never been happier or more busy! I'm now looking to downsize.
That kitchen floor will possibly come up a treat. I love wooden floors as they can be warmer than vinyl. A bit of work in painting etc but it's satisfying work. Take care. =-)
Such a good plan to do away with the integrated fridge freezer Ali. The just take up so much space for so little capacity I find. Shelves are a great trade. I love the cabinet in your lounge, I’d not paint it as it’s lovely and original even though I know painting is more trendy these days. I’m now trying to second guess your anticipated kitchen colour….🤔. thank you for sharing your progress with us and encouraging those of us who also have some updating to do too. Luna is very TIDY with her toys I must say. 🐾🐾
I've just given up work too at the age of 59 and people have asked me too " what do you do all day " ? I find that a bit weird, I do want ever I want just like on days off before I gave up work but I just have more time to do those things so I don't have to cram everything in to two days. I asked some people if they would also like to retire and they all said that they wouldn't know what to do with their time, I find that really sad and odd that lots of people work because they have nothing else in their lives.
You clearly have an eye for putting disparate things together - and I love your colourful theme. It already looks lovely and cosy, but by the time you've finished it will be amazing!
Love your new house! All spaces are cozy, with lots of natural light, and the backyard with the deck are so private and beautiful! I would feel safe and happy in such a place ❤ - enjoy it!!!🎉
I've just discovered your channel. Thank you for part 1 of your house tour. We too retired early - at 53 years of age. We live off my husband's work pension and our investments. We deliberately lived frugally for many years so that we could achieve this. BTW, our kitchen cabinets are exactly the same as yours. We bought our house from new in 2020. The builder told me that the kitchen was supplied and fitted by Howdens.
Your house looks lovely. I agree about cream or white walls then have colour in things like your rugs, cushions, pictures etc. I find it so much easier than trying to tie in coloured walls or wallpaper with curtains and furniture etc. I go for white then I can just forget about it.
@@aliliveswellonless Yes, definitely. I've just bought a house in July so I'm trying to save money where I can. The budget doesn't stretch to Farrow and Ball paint, but that's fine. I'm 59 so a bit older and retirement is on my mind so have to save the pennies. I enjoy your vlogs.
It's lovely and cosy. Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse into your life post-retirement. Yes, that kitchen floor will come up beautifully if sanded and sealed. Will you show us the outside? If you're on the outskirts of Stirling then you're likely have a dramatic view.
Very nice, my wee ex Council house will do me, it owes me nothing and was less than 20k when I bought it. I looked at selling and getting a newer model but the cons far outweighed the pros in doing so in my quest to remain debt free etc. Great videos as always keep up the great work.
You could sand back the kitchen floor (see if you can borrow a floor sander, I know you can hire them but don’t know the cost) and then re varnish it. It would look like new and would be a lot cheaper than replacing it. Just a suggestion😊
I really hope I can save the kitchen floor as it would save me a ton of money as well as being environmentally friendly. There's definitely some historic water damage at the sink area so suspect the flooring underneath the parquet will need attention. But hopefully I can find a sympathetic joiner to work with me 🙂
Very nice! I love the colors and the deck with the huge windows! Our house is 600 sq. ft. so i know what you’re up against. Many, many things have to be used for storage as well as beautiful. Something in, something out. You’ll have a wonderful life there! ❤
Your home is beautiful. I love the pops of colour in the lounge. Everything compliments each other very nicely. It seems to be a calm space to read and enjoy a fly cuppa.
Lovely tour thank you. A tip if ever you want to paint your rooms and need to check out the colours on your walls. Instead of painting patches all over the place (near a window, on a back wall etc), get a cheap roll of lining paper cut an A3 size piece and paint your sample on that and attach it to the wall by bluetac, that way you can move it about and not have different colour patches all over! My Dad was born and grew up in Dollar, not far from Sterling.
😂why not put a picture over the tare in the paper 😅untill you can decorate ❤ love the dresser nice as it is ❤ yes Boys had Technical study’s also wood work❤us Girls took Domestic Science ,home making how to make a bed and run the Home ❤we had Biology was not for the boys 😂our Biology Teacher in the 70s was Mrs Harding ❤she would sit on one leg at her desk and stare at us Girls 😂she watched us like a hawk 😂
Your house is beautiful with so much potential. Love the blue and orange. Bet your kitchen is gorgeous when the sun streams in. So exciting to have a blank canvas to work with.
Please don’t paint your lovely dresser. For the short time you’ve been in your house you have managed to make it lovely & homely, I think when you’ve finished painting & all the jobs you want to do it will be beautiful, love the decking & garden being straight off the kitchen. If it was me, I would like to spend my gardening time right there at your house instead of trailing to an allotment & you could do one space really well & enjoy it where it maybe more of a chore keeping both spaces going but that’s just me & I think you enjoy a challenge. Thank you for sharing your home 💐
I hope I can sand it. My cousin is a joiner (but sadly doesn't live near me) so I'll be asking his advice on the best way to try. It's obviously top quality to have withstood the battering the rest of the house has suffered!!
Lovely tour. (Early retired teacher here too) I think I saw an Annie Proulx on your shelves. (Shipping News, maybe?) I haven't read her for ages, so that was a lovely reminder!
Really enjoyed this tour. It's a sweet house and will be even sweeter when you have done those small jobs. Looking forward to seeing Part 2, and also an update at some point when you have finished. ❤
Good afternoon Ali, I do like the prints. I hope you don't mind me asking, how do you keep warm in winter. For those that don't know Scotland can be a tad chilly in winter. Kind regards from Lancashire
Extra layers! Hand knitted socks, big chunky cardigans, hot water bottles and blankets on the sofa. In my previous house I had a woodburner so my living room was always toasty. This house is an unknown quantity so I'll need to experiment with the central heating controls to find the right level without costing a fortune to heat. Great question! :-)
Richard of york gained battles in vain. I love the idea if the rainbow bottles. You have a lovely hone and it's yours. When you put your stamp on it, it will look amazing.
Enjoyed the video Ali👍 I’m sure your UA-cam video channel will continue to grow. Your presentation style, personality and openness are endearing. Regarding this video in particular, I believe many people who have downsized and decided to furnish their home’s with “well sourced” second hand furniture (whether out of necessity or choice!), will feel very liberated and at ease! Like you, I retired at 58 and live off a works pension. I enjoy many simple / low cost hobbies and have never felt the need to have the latest this, or that. I drive a 59 plate Ford Fiesta which does me fine (and only £20 annual road tax!). I don’t really worry about money at all and happy to spend it if I think the exchange is worth it….a holiday, a trip to London every now and again, that sort of thing. The best advice I would give anyone heading for retirement is to try and get / stay debt free as soon as possible, including paying off a mortgage! Many things are free in life, it’s all about enjoying what you have and being content. Go for a walk, a bike ride, read a book, basic cooking, the list goes on. Without getting too “preachy”, the other thing I found brings real contentment (and assurance as you get older!) is faith. I’m not a religious freak but I do love to read the Bible and if this is a book you haven’t got in your collection, I’d definitely recommend it! Take care Ali (Sub’d)☺️
Brilliant comment! Getting to retirement age with no debt is so freeing. As for faith, I sort of agree especially re contentment. I don't identify as anything in particular but do like to read about Buddhism and more earth centred practices as well as Humanism :-)
@@aliliveswellonless Thanks for the reply Ali…by the way, I own one of the same prints as you…the one on the far left! Explore the Bible if you have a spiritual leaning….you may be very surprised with the content!
Hi, Ali. This was a nice surprise, i didn't have to wait until Friday for another video. Love your home, I can see that in a couple of years you will have done everything to your taste. I was wondering if its the same in Scotland, but I'm sure in Wales if you are buying a house the seller must leave the light bulbs. They've been a bit mean there with you. Our Recycling centre in Rhyl, has a place there where you can go and get pots of paint. Some used, and only have a bit in them but others hardly used. Free! If you ask your dustbin men they would know if they do that in your area. I got a pack of salmon half price at Aldi this morning and a small piece of beef joint with 30%off . Really pleased 😊 See you tomorrow, with love ❤. Sandra.
Yes you're supposed to leave light bulbs!! And curtain poles. And sheds!!! Unless specifically mentioned in the legal documents. The previous family seemed to have financial issues judging by the mail I'm still getting. I think they may have 'done a bunk!!' We have a fab reuse centre in Stirling that has all sorts of furniture and DIY stuff but at the moment I'm donating rather than buying atm!!! 🙂
@@aliliveswellonless Lovely, well you maybe able to get a bit of paint there. The other thing I was thinking about, you can buy some tape to cover your split on the settee. Can't remember the proper name of it, but I used some a few years ago. I think B&Q sell it , or maybe on line. Anyway, Well done! I'm thinking about what you will be cooking tomorrow. 🍳 Sandra. Xx
Thanks! It's Dulux's Natural Calico. I've used it in my previous 2 houses (and my mum does too) as it has a warm cream colour and not too 'yellow.' It was on offer last year so me and my mum stocked up! :-)
Hi Ali. Your new house looks perfect for you and Luna to make your home. Love the sound of your future projects. I used to be quite keen on diy etc but have got very lazy, I need to pick up a few areas in my house. You’ve inspired me to see what paint I have already. Re your allotment, I think you are doing the right thing giving it up. It sounds as if it would turn into another job with it being on the other side of the city; watering is such a commitment. The plans for your own garden, and the availability of a community plot, sound more suited to what time you will have available, with Miss Luna keeping you so busy. Have you watched YT channel “Andy Grows Food”? It’s probably already been mentioned, but he grows food in his front garden like you are thinking of doing. All the best with the channel, it has really taken off.
Hi Ali you’re wee pad is fine. Your wee stool is definitely from school it was par for the course. lol 😂. You’re kitchen I would not paint for a little more I would wrap it. To hire a floor sander isn’t that much and reattach you’re integrated is pennies. Your kitchen would look a million dollars. You want to maybe make a plan and that would be the kitchen done plus some paint. I’ve a feeling you’re care for your pupils in your working life was in the raploch. PS I can’t spell. Ali you have done your bit. Enjoy retirement. I’m through in Largs if you need a hand with anything you’re welcome. Have a good day. 😜🌹
Thank you Ali for sharing your home you have the makings of a lovely nest you have the basic blocks to build on each year I would plan to do a project and it has took many years but it's mine and what I like so all the best to you for your future projects .x
I like the color you're painting the living room. That floor in the kitchen would probably be gorgeous if it was refinished! Check out the You Tube channel of Danny Sandhouse to see what he does with old wood floors. His shorts come up in my feed sometimes. I have pine floors upstairs that are over 100 years old that would no doubt look great if I could afford to have them refinished by someone like him (since he's not near where I live in the USA). From what I can see, your kitchen cabinets would be great with a fresh coat of paint, new hardware if you wished, and a bit of wood filler in a couple of little spots. I did a bad job of putting casings around a doorway and had it that way for a couple of years thinking I was going to redo it. It was an eyesore. Last week I took some wood filler and just filled in the many gaps and repainted it, and it looks fine. There was no need to redo it. One of my favorite paint colors is Benjamin Moore's Black Forest green. So far I've only used it on an outside bench, as it's a very dark color. If you went very bold and dark, it might be great for your cabinets. Off-white is my favorite color for cabinets, though.
Lovely home tour and it is a cozy and colourful living room. I love a reading corner. We had an old integrated fridge freezer in our tiny kitchen and when it broke we did exactly what you are planning. We converted it into shelving and it is now our pantry. Lots of storage space there.
I love your "wee" house...it's actually bigger than our townhouse! And so much potential! Please take us along as you make it your own? If you wallpaper, I'd love to watch that process. And that deck! So lovely! So glad your new home is working out so well for you and Luna : )
Thanks so much for the tour, Ali, you have a lovely cosy home and there is so much light shining through. I love the colourful rugs! Your garden is bright and flat and you will make it very special. Angie

I got a pack of salmon half price at Aldi this morning and a small piece of beef joint with 30%off . Really pleased 😊
See you tomorrow, with love ❤.

Lovely, well you maybe able to get a bit of paint there.
The other thing I was thinking about, you can buy some tape to cover your split on the settee. Can't remember the proper name of it, but I used some a few years ago. I think B&Q sell it , or maybe on line.
Anyway, Well done!
I'm thinking about what you will be cooking tomorrow. 🍳
Sandra. Xx
Lovely light and spacious home you have. What is the paint you have started using on the walls . I think it’s lovely. Xxx
Thanks! It's Dulux's Natural Calico. I've used it in my previous 2 houses (and my mum does too) as it has a warm cream colour and not too 'yellow.' It was on offer last year so me and my mum stocked up! :-)
@@aliliveswellonless Thank you. Just what I’m looking for 😀x
Lovely and cosy house, thank you for the tour. What paint colour are you using in your living room, it is just the creamy white I am looking for x
It's Dulux's Natural Calico. I've used it for years in various houses and always stock up when it's on the 2 for 1 offer in B&Q! :-)
@@aliliveswellonless thanks for letting me know Ali x
Enjoyed the tour. The gin bottles an ingenious decorating idea. Your home looks cosy and colourful. 👏🏻👏🏻
Loving the rainbow colour theme, especially the gin bottles😊
Lovely home tour and it is a cozy and colourful living room. I love a reading corner. We had an old integrated fridge freezer in our tiny kitchen and when it broke we did exactly what you are planning. We converted it into shelving and it is now our pantry. Lots of storage space there.
We’re downsizing this year - operation measure all the precious bits of furniture to see where they can fit!
Angie
Thank you for showing us your lovely home Ali. It looks so clean and organised, I can imagine you will enjoy putting your own stamp on it over the next few months/years.
Thank you very much for sharing your house, I love it, especially the colours 😀
A very homely home, Ali, where everything has an interesting story to tell. Thank you for the tour 😊
Hi sweetie thank you for sharing ❤.home sweet home 🏡 🎉🎉🎉great beatiful house. Great deco .take care keep safe 🙏 ❤ 💕 ✨ ♥
I hope you can find it possible to restore that kitchen floor. Hardwood is a treasure and worth bringing back to life.
What a lovely colourful little house 😊 I think the kitchen floor will be worth saving ❤ does it go on under the lounge flooring I wonder?
I’d get that old floor sanded and polished will be good as new love your colours
You could grow some nice raspberries out there in some pots or next to the fence. So easy to grow and lovely to pick your own 😊
Your home is so warm and cozy! The dresser is perfection!!
Ali you have a lovely home and the garden looks lovely as well.❤️❤️
Very pretty. If I lived alone I'd be happy in that space.
You have a lovely home and I can’t wait to see the rest 😊
