Whoever thought of combining this poem, Tom's voice and this piano masterpiece truly deserves a Nobel prize. 👏👏👏👏👏 it's perfect. I still listen to this and learned the poem by heart (and English is not my mother tongue). Thank u.

I don't remember when I first read this poem but I know it was a long time ago (I'm over 90). I always associate it with the respect I have for President Roosevelt. It was his favorite poem and when I think of it I think of what it must have meant to him in regard to the difficulty he had with his mobility and other health challenges after having had polio. I had polio at age 6 and have experienced difficulties throughout my life as a result. This poem can always make me feel that I was greater than the challenge.

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
