Yes. Metro-North, in particular, has a lot of platforms that are shorter than the average train length, so many trains are required to either overshoot the platform by so many cars or have the rear hang off. It's a very common practice several passenger railroads in the US.
Is the metro north gonna get new cabs in the future? It looks like those are old, I recommend something like the LIRR C3's if there is enough clearance in grand central for it
