  • Who was Jane Austen, really?
Beyond the Regency ballroom romances of her novels, Jane Austen's actual life is still a bit of a mystery to us. And personally, I think that anything we cannot know, must automatically be...gay.
In this video, I look at the woman behind some of the most beautiful, funny, sharp hetero romcoms in history; Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, even (technically) Clueless. We'll dive into her family, friendships, and the social pressures she faced as an unmarried woman in 19th-century England--and I will argue, passionately and at length, that it all proves she's a massive lesbian.
If you're into Jane Austen, queer readings of literature, Regency-era history, and love rethinking the lives of iconic authors, this might be the video to put on while you do your laundry/dishes/reorganise your bookshelf instead of doing either of those other two things. Enjoy!
