Thanks for your battery updates. My 2018 1290 SAR has gone totally haywire on electronics after I installed the Denali Cansmart II light and accessories controller last year. It worked without a hitch for 5 years before that- on the OEM Yuasa battery. Now the same KTM workshop that installed all that extra LED setup scratch their heads and bike throws 17 error codes, MTC failure, ABS failure and refuses to start. I suspect batttery and ECU failure and it refuses to start with a brand new OEM Yuasa battery. I have ordered a new lithium battery to get that factor out of the troubleshooting.
Found the culprit: An earthing failure caused all my misery. You might want to check for that too. KTM workshop found it after 7 hours of troubleshooting 😮
Another top video Dan, hopefully the new battery will resolve the issue. My gopro does this with the mic too, you plug it in but it doesn't pick up the mic. Blooming annoying! Hope your well buddy, Sean
My guess is that the 1290 motor being 13:1 compression did not get an adequate starter/battery size from engineering department. These stock sized batteries really struggle even when new.
That sucks, man... KTMs are just designed to drain the hell out of batteries, I'm convinced... my 2015 1290 SA, and even with the analog screens and no ipad dash, she'll struggle to start if it sits for much more than a couple weeks. I also use a lithium battery after watching one of your older videos, I can get them for about 40 USD and if it does die on me, I get another. Miss the old F6B Honda whose battery was like your Yamaha, it would sit outside all winter not starting for at least 3mos, and it would fire right up. Sold it with the original battery 6yrs old. Oh well...
I was told the CBUS does this,,, it needs to be not as sensitive. I put in a Gel 2 years ago and it has run fine since, but now it is replaced,, I love my KTM and I dont want to get rid of it,, best bike veer to commute, however if reliability keeps becoming an issue then who knows
@biker_dan ahhhh okay good to know. It's the only complaint I have! And yes, I hear you about the dilemma; near perfect bike but the battery no/hard start is such a burden. I'll keep tuning in, if you do go with something else. This weekend, I rode through a VERY heavy thunderstorm with hail and had cars pulled over under the overpasses, but besides not being dressed for it, i blasted down the highway with zero problem, at amoderate cruising speed. Passed several other motorcycles pulled over with the scared cars but it didn't stop the big KTM, and while I'm a confident rider, I'm no professional. That reinforced my confidence in the bike, and will make it all the harder to ditch!

God that was unlucky, but glad you got a decent battery, they are quite cheap now for Lithium so it is worth putting one in,, Cheers
@@biker_dan later: The real culprit was the crankshaft position sensor/ kokusan pulse generator.
@@1bikerdude Glad you are sorted. It is something you wouldn't expect. Was it expensive to replace?
