Hi, I have the 2023 1290 SAS and although I have not checked I'm assuming it has a Gel battery. However, after 3 weeks of ownership I have already experienced the suspension warning light. After a couple of miles riding I stopped to top up fuel and on re-start it was fine. Currently on an optimate as soon as it is parked up which in theory should sort problem as long as I'm not away from home. Having seen similar videos to yours it appears that the Lithium battery is the answer. Many thanks for your video and input.
Hi I'm just wondering if you could let me know what model and brand you have fitted? I have the Gen 1 1290 SAS and it has a Yuasa YTZ14S which is hopeless, it has to go!
I have a 2015 ktm 1290 super adv T and a 1290 super duke 2016 both have problems starting when the weather is below 5° celcius and specialy with a cold wind. I had problems with the original ktm batteries same with after yuasa led and same with a gel batteries and each one never lasted more than 2 years. Both motorcycles spend nights inside of a garage all services have been made by ktm and after many research impossible to find a solution the only one is the ktm booster that I use when it gets cold so I remove the seat and with the help of the booster it starts no problems. The problems comes that both are 1 generation and ktm under estimated the electrical power to start a 1301 cc engine. I changed oil, batteries, spark plugs. Any suggestions ?
I think having a small smart charger is the best option. Normally if I am not going to ride for 2 days or more I put the smart charger on, that seems to help. But yes the cold weather seems to cause the problems..
It could well be, these bikes need 100% battery power because of the c-bus, if it detects a loss of power due to something not working correctly, it throws everything out of sync
Indeed I have. It is just to help evaporate fumes. I removed it and blanked both hoses, then under the engine there is a breather hose which needs the plug removed.. saves space.
In my case, the lowest starting voltage is 12.25V. I use a GEL battery, but every time I start the motorcycle, errors like: ABS, MTC, EDS, ECU and General Failure are displayed on the panel. Motorcycle KTM Adventure 1190 2014.
Yes these bikes can be a pain. Try cranking voltage, measure voltage as it turns over on the starter, if it is below 10v it may be the battery. The whole problem is Cbus, it monitors the voltage and throws up errors when there is actually no errors. KK TT M really need to sort out this prob lol em.
@@stephenalbert856 me too, but how worse can it get. I use this bike to commute, so maybe I will try lithium and if it does not work then I might get something else to use to work. Maybe a scrambler, anything that does not have a Cbus
Hi Dan I'm on a late 2016 1290SA. Now on my third battery and that is striating to fail. I keep the bike on Optimate every other week. If I go the Gel battery route, do they recommend battery conditioner like Optimate too?
@@biker_dan My 2023 came with a Yuasa YTZ14S, which is a sealed lead acid. I haven't had any error messages with it yet, but the Bike Info does show it to be yellow when I get home at the end of the day. Gel batteries seem to be difficult to find, have you tested AGM? I wonder if that would do the trick.
The 2019 and 20 model were plauged with electrical probs all due to battery, so I guess they too found out what the problem was hence the new models have Gel battery's.
Hi Dan, excellent video explained and presented well and helped me out, thanks for taking the time to do it.
Glad it was helpful!

Yes mine also has the Yussa YT145S. What battery are you thinking about getting?@@MofoFunk84
What is the battery model number we are looking for?
You really really helped me today thank you Sir🎉

On a 1290 SDR gen3, if the battery is cooked, could that be a reason why the TTF dash won’t come on?

Hi dan is that a tool bag in the tail behind the battery? If so have you removed the black plastic canister for the recycle system? Thks

I am exactly the same. I have YTZ14S Gel battery. Voltage looks OK but still these errors ?
@@stephenalbert856 yes. I'm actually looking at a lithium battery with 300cca. Mine failed to start again yesterday so maybe a lithium next
I thought Lithium batteries were not good with this bike ?@@biker_dan

Not as much. Gel goes longer without going flat, but an optimiser will work the same
What number CCA are we looking at?
I leave my 1290s and my other two bikes on a battery tender. Maybe that helps too. Cheers.
Have that exact same problem now😂
Does anyone know whwre to find one of these in UK......like hens teeth 🤦♂️
You can get them,, you just have to shop around, If stuck then buy one from over seas and have it shipped over,,
I have a 2023 ktm1290s came with lead acid . I have been getting error problems. im going to buy a gel today .
Wow it should have came with a Gel,, I thought all the new ones did,,, Good choice though, it will eliminate all problems,,
@Biker Dan its an AGM, and it's good so I think it's a Com error

what about the extra ground wire to the bikes frame? just a thought
Everything helps even extra earthing
So KTM design and deleivery their bikes with a battery that is not suitable.
