Thanks for watching! BTW Hyundai also just unveiled the new 2019 Hyundai Elantra. You can check out the new car here: ua-cam.com/video/N1o29VdkZwg/v-deo.html
The 2019 Santa Fe is definitely more of an "evolution" rather than "revolution". I actually conducted a review on the all-new 2019 Santa Fe a few weeks back. And I have to say... I was quite impressed! As always, great video, TFL!
I'm glad I bought the 2018! One thing Roman left out is the price difference between the 2018 and the 2019. It's hard to compare because Hyundai changed the trims but there a 3k increase in the price (at least if I compared the 2018 Limited VS 2019 Luxury that doesn't include the navigation system).
We bought one last weekend. We're loving it and you can't beat the warranty. Picked this over the HR-V, CR-V and RAV4. Hyundai has it together in 2019.
Hello! I’m a happy customer! I went from a Chevy-Traverse to a Hyundai-Santa Fe. I loved my Chevy but what I like the most of my Santa Fe is all the safety features offered❤️
We (the wife's) just brought (01 Jan) a 2019 Santa Fe Sel Plus (2.4L). I finally had to cave-in and get rid of our 2003 GMC Envoy XL the transmission died and I did not want to invest $1700+ or there abouts into it. I only drove it once...my wife got no complaints...though, admittedly going from a 16 year old vehicle to new, anything new would be a welcome change. Lots of new tech to get to know. I thought the lack of HP(185) would steer me toward the turbo version. But, I have to say it moves just fine for me. Again, probably because going from old to new. And the price is what I was willing to spend for a new vehicle. I wanted to be well under $30k sticker price (not including tax, tags, etc.) and this 2.4L SEL Plus was a decent compromise of features. I could have went with the SEL and saved a few more $$$ and been just as happy. But, went ahead with the "Plus" version. The "Limited" version was off the table for me.
I don't think the the presence of a center locking is weird. It's actually cool and desirable to me. One of the main features why I would by something like this SUV: A capable AWD that allows me to go farther. Bring that H-TRAC system to the gold mine hill for us to see what is capable of =) Nice review!
yongseok ghymn the 2012 jetta I had in jamaica had motion sensors inside so does my tiguan..... The good stuff has to clear red tape before getting to the. U.S. , but euro specd vehicles always come packed with features
TFL ..i have been a fan of toyota for over 24years but i must tell you i just bought the Santa Fe SEL with convenience package and I love love it.....it worth switching over..warranty, dealership experience and extended worthy is all better in price and package..thanks
My wife was in the market for a new SUV, so I showed her videos of the 2018 and 2019 Santa Fe. She liked both the exterior and interior design of the 2018 over the 2019. So we bought a loaded 2018 at a huge discount this summer. Very happy with vehicle.
Agree, agree, agree! I know one man's (or woman's) floor is another man's (woman's) ceiling but, apart from the "I wanna be's" Rubicon types there is no way that the 2019 Santa Fe Sport looks better than the 2018. If I wanted a vehicle with the cascading "honeycomb" type grille I would have bought a Kia. Hopefully I can find a good deal on a 2018 Santa Fe Sport or Santa Fe V6 because I don't want the "butched up" 2019.
Just picked up my Ultimate 2.0T last Friday and WoW!!! The only thing I have found fault with is that you can't see the HUD with polarized sunglasses on without twisting your head to a funny angle. Getting new glasses to fix that problem.
I just bought the same vehicle and am getting new sunglasses as well! Very nice vehicle and I am getting better than advertised mpg both in city and highway.
I was never in the market for a vehicle as such. Overall, it does look promising. The motor cover I've noticed have 3 indentions on each sides, indicating a 6cyl, despite it being a 4 pot *shrugs*. As usual, great review!
I’m waiting for my genesis g80 sport to be delivered and this winter my future wife will be getting the 2019 Santa Fe. We are blown away by their cars looks, features, comfort and pricing. Noting comes close anymore inot
The Santa Fe is a proper competitor with the Blazer/ Edge/ Murano/ Passport. The Tucson is a proper competitor to the Rogue/ Cherokee/ Equinox/ Escape/ CR-V
@Marcus Agreed. It's 2 row larger but still compact/mid-sized crossovers (think 65 -75 cu ft of cargo space) vs more compact 2 row crossovers (60 - 65 cu ft, roughly although those aren't exactly the determining factors). The next segment would be 3 row mid-sized crossovers like the Explorer, Pilot, Armada, Sequoia, Traverse, etc.
@@meganmcginnis438 the Equinox has about 63 cu ft of cargo space total and the Tucson has about 61 cu ft. Tucson is about 7" shorter but I would look up combined legroom and wheelbase for more of a comparison. Either way, the Tucson is smaller but they're in the same segment.
Glad you mentioned the dual exhaust man. Seems like all reviewers ignored this part. It would definitely give this car more aggression just by putting dual exhaust.
Only if it would have been functional though, as there are lots of fake second exhausts for purely cosmetic looks on the market from premium segment cars, which is funny to say the least )
I have leased Three (3) Santa Fe Sports 2.0 turbo's. Very good vehicles. Currently, I have a 2018 Santa Fe Sport Ultimate 2.0 Turbo. Has all the bells and whistles with full sun roof, leather, heated seats, blacked out wheels covers, back seat shades, etc. etc. Almost got the 2019 model but wife didn't like the new grill & head lights. Hyundai was offering a $6000 discount on the 2018 models so we ended up with a negotiated price of $30,000. However, this is a lease for three years. Most likely end up with another lease when lease comes up. This particular market is highly competitive. Every car company has an SUV. Chevy is coming out with new models which look pretty promising. This vehicle is FWD.
We bought a 2020 limited today, the 2.4 naturally-aspirated the wifie loves it! she has been driving a 2014 Sonata 2.0T we where stuck on deciding on going with the turbo again or not but she liked it for her driving style it has the AWD also i guess I better wait for a few days before I tackle one of them no so compact trails that my RZR wouldn't fear ;)
There is no doubt that Hyundai has a great SUV here in their Santa Fe. There are a couple of question though Roman, and first;,...what is the towing capacity with the 2.0 T engine,....and is it available with factory installed towing hitch etc. Number Two question, or observation really,..when then 'reporter intrusion' alarm goes off,..the exterior lights don't flash , wouldn't this then make it more difficult to see the car in trouble on a crowded parking lot? ( or maybe the lights did flash, I just couldn't see them in the video )
I really like it, I just don't get why Hyundai's cars are lacking so far behind other brands with fuel economy. The 2.0T AWD gets 19/24/21. To compare BMW's X3 with the 2.0T and AWD gets 22/29/25. Thats a noticeable difference.
My wife and I just picked one up, so far... we're at 15mpg city driving. Still breaking the car in, so no aggressive revs and driving. That's been the most disappointing aspect of the car. Otherwise, it's a great car.
I have owned 2 previous generations of Santa Fe. 2003 Limited and 2012 Limited both with V6! I have test driven the 2.0T and I have to say, it does NOT cut it! They need to bring back the V6! Or give us a Diesel like Europe.
I think it looks fantastic! It does have a more macho look to it so if you do have to have one of these it's not that bad. I wouldn't trade it for my truck but it's better than our minivan. The headlight design on the Jeep Cherokee really bother me but Hyundai did a way better job at it. I find it easier pretending that the upper lights are the headlights. This will probably be our minivan replacement especially when the 7-passanger version comes along.
And I have to say, Great Review! I do not see this as ever being a part of my fleet, but this will be an awesome rental car to pick up while I am working in places like SoCal.
christopher kibler I agree, the horsepower could be pushed much higher. I’ve read reviews stating the engine fades rapidly in highway speeds and the engine is pushing its limits.
It is due to government regulations in Europe and Asia, which is why most turbos are 2.0T. In Europe or China, any car with an engine displacement more than 2.0 gets taxed a lot higher.
"Much less like a minvan"? I've never looked at a Santa Fe thinking it looks like a minivan! More like a manly american-style SUV, especially in its second gen!
I had a 2013 SantaFe limited that I bought new and it had a 2 liter 264 hp,then they went to 240 hp and now 235,what's up with that, most companies are upping there hp but these guy's are dropping it,if you get a chance Roman ask Hyundai why this is happening
Chico101 thanks for asking. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Other reviews I’ve read said the car is faster at lower speed due to the torque, though the power fades quickly once merging onto the highway where the engine. Tje reviews said it’s
My understand is, Hyundai is doing this with their motors to better balance the power output. More power at lower RPMs to make them better driving. Fuel economy may be a part of the change as well. I remember test driving a new 2012 Sonata when it came out (fluidic sculpture) and I thought it felt surprisingly weak for having 200hp at the time, which was quite a bit in 2012. All the power was in the upper revs where the engine doesn't spend most of it's time.
Horsepower is lower to boost torque. Torque is what is needed to get the car moving. Horsepower is what maintains the car at speeds. Higher horsepower means higher top speed. Most people would rather have more torque tha horsepower especially in a utility vehicle. Horsepower is relegated for sports cars.
Bought one a few weeks ago Limited AWD 2.4. Wanted safety features & LED headlights that IIHS just rated tops, interior comfort (really outstanding features, roomy, comfy leather), long warranty. 2.4L is ok for flat midwest, does well w/4 large adults esp in Sport mode gearing but would have preferred a 250hp 6. Also saw review of AWD capabilities & while Locking works till 40mph will use in snow but not off roading.
How do you think this car will be in snow on all seasons? I may drive to the mountains a few x a year here like Tahoe but if I move back east then it'll be 3 months of snow and slush and crap. If moving back east might want to get snow tires then
Love the styling and attention to detail in the tail lights, speaker grills, and the unique fabric in the headliner. I just hope they fix the rear seats that liked to wobble on the highway when empty.
Luv-it can't wait to purchase one after I test drove a SEL 2.4. It would be a good companion to my Subaru Outback. My complaint is that a Brochure is not available yet to read up on all the stats and color choices?
I liked the older model styling and thought the new design copied Jeep. However after seeing this video, I changed my mind. Very nice design. This is about the right size crossover for me as a daily driver.
Whoa that's a gorgeous vehicle. Especially the rear tail lamps. The design. The front is not for everyone but i think it's unique and beautiful (at least better looking than the Kona and the Jeep one)
I'm looking to trade my 2016 sonata for an SUV , but i have heard alot about carbon build up on their GDI engines , so what have they done to fix this ? I'm leaning toward a toyota Rav 4 because they have fixed their carbon problems
I have the 2.4 none turbo LOVE it save so much fuel does great in snow and keeps up with the turbos no problem maybe not fast off the line line but who cares about that the long haul trips 34-38 miles to the gallon on the thruway and 24-28 in town well worth not having a turbo
I loved the Santa Fe Sports. Especially the 2017, 2018 I like the style and the interior of them, along with the drive. I test drove the 2019 Santa Fe the other day and I liked it. It was very responsive. However, what I'm not a fan of on the 2019, is the touchscreen/radio part. It makes the dash look slightly odd with it so spaced out from the climate controls. Also the Drive Moded are strange, and steering wheel style, but whatever haha. I still like it and love my Hyundai's, as I have a 2014 Sonata Limited 2.0T ❤
As cool as the Mazda CX-5, more powerful than the Honda CR-V, larger than the Rogue, and comes with Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof, and differential lock? .. Why saving on compliments, Roman? This car is awesome!
We have the 2018 Sport 2.0T in a metallic frost white. So much better looking than the 2019. So glad we didn't get the stop-start technology. Tested a Toyota Highlander with stop-start and hated it. Has to be turned off every time you start the engine. The default position should keep the engine running until you shut it off.
I like the overall design, one thing i don't like is the turn signals are mounted too low, it will be hard to see for any vehicles with higher seating position
From a driving experience perspective, I'd rather have the 2018 Sport then any 2019 Sante Fe model. I think Hyundai went more for fuel economy then driving experience. This has become a soccer mom SUV.
Great review. I was wondering if you can let us know how big the phone charger area is? phones seem to be getting bigger. You guy keep up the good work
Competes with the Rogue!? I just drove both of these back to back.. this car is WAY nicer the even the Murano. Don’t let the brand name full you. Rogue sucks compared to the space design and Luxury looks of it interior and out. Hence the price increase for it over the rogue
Roman when is the Santa Fe 5 passenger coming with a hybrid to America. Or how about a mussel car Santa Fe 5 passenger using the 3.3 twin turbo KIA engine. Also why can't they turn the 2.0T like a lot of others and reduce the turbo lag and around 250 plus hp. Such a great looking SUV, but needs a little more Durango blood. Can they do that 5 star tuning on that 2.0T and add some power that way?? Thanks Bert
Roman, why the confusion about the engines? The same engine lineup that Hyundai has been using in the Sonata since 2011. Nothing new there. If you want a technically advanced new turbo, the CX9 delivers. That said, well done with the overall package though Hyundai, a definite improvement.
Yes finally, the wait is over. I've been dying to see this car reviewed on your channel. I'm even more eager to see it on other channels like Everyman Driver, Motorweek, AutoTrader, etc.
Among all the fuel economy engine improvements, does the 2019 Santa Fe solve the issue with the GDI Theta II manufacturing defect leaving metal shavings on the crankshaft? It would certainly be an improvement in fuel economy for an engine to not be on fire.
Hmmm... You do have a point. Although, having caught fire leaves you carless which is by far the best fuel economy. Lol.. No that is really screwed. Hhhh Can't believe it's been 10 years without a car for me... In southern California. But I like this as an option. Any other advice about the 2019? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Good feature for the rear seat motion detection! But, can it be turn off manually? Let's say, I'd like to leave my dog on the back seat and with the window half open. That horn will be annoying.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Hyundai just announced that the diesel has been put on hold. With gas prices down below $2 a gallon in many places, I don't blame them. You can thank the onerous EPA regulations for the decision to drop the diesel project, it just doesn't make economic sense at $2/ gallon gas.
Why does the power on the 2.0 turbo keep dropping? It made 274 horses back in 2013 and then it dropped to 264 a few years later in the sport utes then it dropped yet again to only 245 in the current Sonata and now it drops yet again to a lackluster 235.
To they fixed the carbon build up from previous GDI motors? You have to clean those carbons manually and it's annoying every 8k miles, they clean itself now?
They are good , but I hope they improved on the rear suspension since the 2017 model, I got 2010 Santa Fe the suspension is great! Don’t know what they did differently but they really can’t Handel bumps on the 2017 model has bad suspension??
In terms of size, it would a competitor to the Rogue, both 5 seaters with comparable space in the cabin and cargo, base engine is super close for HP and similar price range as well. The nice things are the upgraded tech and materials and the option for a more powerful engine.

It is due to government regulations in Europe and Asia, which is why most turbos are 2.0T. In Europe or China, any car with an engine displacement more than 2.0 gets taxed a lot higher.
i have a 19 ultimate and will say its really nice , i didn't expect this quality
Fuel economy
Chico101 thanks for asking. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Other reviews I’ve read said the car is faster at lower speed due to the torque, though the power fades quickly once merging onto the highway where the engine. Tje reviews said it’s
More torque in the lower rpm
If moving back east might want to get snow tires then
Now you making me choose, between the Santa Fe, and the new Blazer. Can't decide. Love 'em both.
Chalres Kirkland New Blazer
Love the styling and attention to detail in the tail lights, speaker grills, and the unique fabric in the headliner. I just hope they fix the rear seats that liked to wobble on the highway when empty.
You should test the towing !
You guys came to Park City? That's awesome! It's cool to see you here.
I was waiting on the 2019 RAV 4 but may take a look at this one as well, looks nice...
I test drove a base model 2.4L SE model last week. I might get one in the future!
I’m getting this car this weekend!!
The interior looks very modern and simple. I like it.
I like it, but not a fan of the headlights.
This Santa Fe looks like a larger Kona especially from the front.
Looks better in person
I dont like headlights, thats why i am going for Sorento instead of Santa Fe
@@76carmel The Sante Fe is a larger SUV then the kona. Santa Fe is competing with the CRV and Rav 4. While the kona competes with the hrv and Chr
@@xxFallenKnight The Santa Fe competes with Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.
Dear Hyundai please bring back the panoramic sunroof to the Sonata.
I really like the way this thing looks
As cool as the Mazda CX-5, more powerful than the Honda CR-V, larger than the Rogue, and comes with Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof, and differential lock? .. Why saving on compliments, Roman? This car is awesome!
rogue also has those things but its cvt has issues
We have the 2018 Sport 2.0T in a metallic frost white. So much better looking than the 2019. So glad we didn't get the stop-start technology. Tested a Toyota Highlander with stop-start and hated it. Has to be turned off every time you start the engine. The default position should keep the engine running until you shut it off.
Great new features!
Great looking car....very impressive with all of it's features, i'm definitely getting one
All suvs are for soccer moms.
I disagree, I have driven both and the 2019 is way better in so many ways. I should know, I sell them!😊
I have liked Hyundai and Kia since 2011. They have up thier game a lot.
Thanks Bert
Another winner from Hyundai. Worth a hard look and consideration.
Very Nice, I hope this Santa Fe TC model reach us in the Philippines, definitely Like its new Style. 🤗
Hhhh
Can't believe it's been 10 years without a car for me...
Can’t wait for the 2.2l diesel model...first qtr 2019?
You and I both. Hopefully sooner than that.
Very nice.... Great review as per normal...
If you don't like the Start-Stop, you can just add a jumper wire on the switch -Turns off on startup every time without having to press the button.
As a 2004 Santa Fe owner, I am not happy they did away with the V6.
WOW! I'm in 😍😍😍😍 with this 🚘. I can see myself investing in this SUV
Very nice... I cant wait for the XL with the V6
You think the Santa Fe competes with the Rogue? Sorry, this is above the Rogue. The Tucson is more of a Rogue competitor.
Roman is on crack. Worst "reviewer" on the channel.
In terms of size, it would a competitor to the Rogue, both 5 seaters with comparable space in the cabin and cargo, base engine is super close for HP and similar price range as well. The nice things are the upgraded tech and materials and the option for a more powerful engine.
You referred to the 2.4 l engine was a "smaller" engine compared to the 2.0 l. Perhaps "less powerful" would have been a better descriptor to use.
Was that off-road section at the top of gaurdsmans pass in Park City? I was driving my Miata over the pass and saw the train of Hyundais!
Great car and great review.
I’m sold. It’ll be my 4th Hyundai/Kia.
That kind of safety sensors in the back is relly a good one! Now bad guy with a gun cannot be hiding there like it often happens in the movies ~:D
Can we turn the sensor off? I leave my dog there all the time
@@JD-fx1np If you leave your dog in the car, then you should not have a dog. You are not a responsible dog owner
@@roberta.lofgrenjr.9182 hows that? You've never seen people travel with dogs or bring their dogs on errands, to the store, on the way to a hike, to a dog park, or even to work? Many reasons. So we/they are ALL irresponsible dog owners? Really? That's a rather flippant thing to say.
@@JD-fx1np No it was not. You we're the one who posted can we turn the sensor off? I leave my dog there all the time. If you leave your dog in a car unattended for a reasonable amount of time then you should not own a dog. You are not a responsible dog owner. I own a German Shepherd and I would never go anywhere and leave him in the car. If I bring him to a dog park or a park in general he comes right out of the car with me. He is never left unattended in my car. Not for one minute. And neither we're my kids when they we're small. Good day Joseph,
Yes i think it competes with the Nissan Morano because i have driven both..i honestly don't see the difference...Now if you get technical then i guess you got me!
This video just made me doubt wanting a Cherokee. Well this one and the other where you take it offroad. I may go for this instead.
Beautiful. Capable. Efficient. And realiable.
Though the style is similar to Cherokee, it's way better looking. I also like the big sunroof.
