It is amazing how well that shredder pulverizes cardboard!! I can't believe I was ripping up cardboard by hand before I got up the guts to put the first piece through!! Thanks so much for stopping by to watch Ann!!🪱🪱🪱
Hi Patrick and Autumn 🪱❤️🪱 🍓🍌🍓🥦🍓🍌🍓 Great ad on the shredder, "I bought one for my Mom" such a good son! Back up Autumn!!!! All good stuff you wild and crazy kids 😜 ❤Peggy❤
She is never safe when I pull out those food scraps!! Best thing I ever got my mom was that shredder!! I never run out of cardboard shreds now!! Have a wonderful morning Peggy!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Hey Patrick, I definitely think your warm humidity in Florida helps your worms go through all those chunky foods and dry cardboard so successfully. I think maybe this time you'll see some more pepper sprouts! Your time lapse arrangement at the end looks like modern art. 👨🎨 ~ Sandra
I'm so glad you like my artwork😂🤣😂 When I was editing I was thinking maybe I should try to plant some of those big juicy red pepper seeds!! Yes, we are blessed with saturated air here!! I could probably get all my water needs from the humidity the Air Conditioning unit pulls out of the air!! Thanks so much for watching Sandra!!🪱🪱🪱
😂🤣😂 Pepper spray!! Her ability to anticipate my shenanigans has increases exponentially with the number of years we've been married...She is a ninja expert after 26 years so far!! Thanks for the good laugh & of course thanks so much for dropping by to watch Ann!!🪱🪱🪱
I love how she eggs me on each video to use more coffee grounds and then after I comply she has immediate regrets!! 😂🤣😂 This time lapse has proved to be one of the more smellier ones I've done...I don't the block of tofu was a good idea!! Thanks so much for watching AV!!🪱🪱🪱
I just wish someone made a nifty leaf shredder like that did not cost $700 dollars. I can just imagine myself putting individual leaves through our shredder, lol. I hope your worms appreciate the presentation of their food, I know I do. Lots of good tips along the way Patrick, Stay Well !!!
Now that would be very useful!! This reminds me I need to check on my Outdoor Worm Bin and see how all those leaves I put in are doing!! I'm glad you like the worm food presentation!! Thanks so much for watching Brian!!🪱🪱🪱
I should do that too!! Especially these really colorful peppers!! Maybe I'll give it a try next time I see more sprouts!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Thanks for the great content! With your help I got the moisture levels in my worm bin improved a lot. Do you have a video on how you use the vermicompost?
Thank you!! I'm so glad our videos helped you out!! I have a couple of older videos that show some of what I do with my vermicompost: ua-cam.com/video/WMVNEk57ORs/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/jSbdh7e_D04/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/WCevZRPuYug/v-deo.html but I do plan on doing a more comprehensive video to include how I make worm casting tea and how I use it on my garden! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and pass on the great feedback!!🪱🪱🪱
That is a great question...I have gone down the rabbit hole with the Google Scholar search engine in the past and have not found anything specific enough that addresses chemicals in cardboard affecting the soil through vermicompost and being passed into plants and affecting humans...in fact I see numerous studies and articles suggesting to use cardboard in vermicomosting. I did run into an article/study using earthworms to clean up toxic soils, as they tend to be a sink for heavy metals (kind of like fish, birds and mammals). So I guess as long as we don't eat our worms we should be good!!🤣😂🤣 In a totally untested opinion, I believe that any unknown adverse exposure from the cardboard is mitigated by the worms, constant watering when it gets into my garden, and the UV sunlight hitting my garden...But if cardboard is meaningfully toxic to us we sure do have a huge problem a with all the amazon boxes we touch & all the fresh food grocery boxes!! I hope other folks see your question and find some sources from studies that explore this topic!! Thanks so much for asking and of course thanks so much for taking the time to watch!!🪱🪱🪱
Hi Dan! I would do it based on time and just try to fill the trays with the amount of food you think your worms will eat per week (or whatever time interval you feed on) and fill the rest up with shredded cardboard. The worms will eat both the shredded cardboard and food down in the tray and you will have more room for each feeding. I try to keep each tray on top to feed for at least 60 days, then rotate. If I'm starting a brand new worm tower I feed the first tray for 90 days before I rotate, then switch to a 60 day interval after that. If you use my rotation system with 4 trays on at all times you will have 10 lbs of worm castings every 60 days. Here is a video on how I rotate my VermiHut worm tower if you have not seen it: ua-cam.com/video/9x467PSF2xE/v-deo.html If you are using the material from your DIY system you could probably start right away with a 60 day interval. I know buckets probably went more on depth, but with how shallow these trays are and how quickly the worm population builds, filling them up and going on timing has worked the best for me!! I hope this helps!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
That is a great idea!! I love Sponge Bob!! Patrick is my favorite character for obvious reasons!! My son P.J. (Patrick Jr.) and I always try to get a picture with him at Universal Studios in Orlando where they have a Sponge Bob themed store!!

Thanks for another great video! What do we all think about the chemicals in cardboard possibly getting into the food we grow in our castings?

I just converted over from a DIY bucket system, and was wondering how deep do you aim for before you rotate? Thanks! ~ Dan
