    How many times does Freya say ‘Cowboy’, how many facial expressions does Luci pull and does Jen spill her drink?
    If you have any suggestions for any other movies or videos for us to react to please let us know in the comments below!

      Your content is very unique around here, stumbled into it when I stumbled into seitan, trying to increase protein in all purpose flour. Lol.
      Oddly I purchased a large painting with a fancy frame from a garage sale about a decade ago, it wasn’t super expensive. I assumed it was fake, the husband didn’t want to sell it though. Now I’m not sure, I can’t make out the signature, I do see brushstrokes.
      Suppose I can google how to tell, you might know… however you haven’t made a video in a while, also where is part 2… 3 …. 4… etc?
      Hope all is well!

      @@TrggrWarning thank you I'm glad you found and like my videos.
      If you're wanting to find out more about the painting the signature is the main help and any information written on the back of the painting or frame. Can you use light at different angles to make out more or magnifying glasses or microscopes? Sometimes it can be very hard to find out the artist if the signature isn't there or hard to read and you have no other information.
      I hope to get part 2 uploaded soon - lots been happening. Thank you for your well wishes and all the best!

    Love this!! Looking forward to part 2! Red Notice, recently released on Netflix, has a few juicy art mishandling scenes... Cowboy cops in the museum, fight scenes around and with artifacts, etc... I was yelling at the screen in several scenes ;) (Hi, from a paper conservator based in Canada!)

    I just finished the movie and found this video on UA-cam. I get to the end only to find out it’s part 1 of 2. Ok no problem. I go to the channel and I see this was the last video posted on there a year ago 🫤😢. I guess something happened and they stopped posted videos? That sucks. I was enjoying this video.

    Lucilla I have to say this : it is so nuts, I was checking on your channel yesterday because I realized I have not received notifications from your channel in a while and saw just now you published a review about National Treasure (you guys nailed it !!) and now it comes to the strange part, I published my debunk of National Treasure last month after talking about making one with Raven in 2020 (yup took me forever) but the fun does not stop there ! I checked the date you published this video and went to tell Raven if she saw it and then I saw my last chat with her about National Treasure dated from november 15th the day before your release ?!! How strange is that ?!! * Illuminati confirmed * Anyway I enjoyed your review very much it is so fun to see how we actually covered different topics, there is just so much to say about this movie dont get us started 😂 I can't wait for part 2 ! And can't wait to see what movie you pick next ! Thank god we don't speak the same language and don't have to check beforehand which movie we decide to do to avoid doublons 😅

      Part 2 is on its way (as it has been for a few months...)
      Thank you for watching and letting me know. It would be great to collaborate on a conservator reaction video in the future!
      12:15 definitely brings back memories of the quickest clean up of dropped food ever! I miss going to conferences. Hopefully one day we can see each other in person again :)

    I was rereading a question and answer you provided to me a few months ago and it's got me to wondering. You stated that ( paraphrasing here) having card stock or a backing board in an enclosure with a comic book helped with possible moisture caused by temperature fluctuations. How do they help? Do they absorb the moisture and keep it from the collectible in some way?
    Thanks a lot. I always enjoy your videos.

    • @TheConservationStarter
      @TheConservationStarter  2 роки тому +1

      I'm glad that you are following up my answer. Temperature and humidity changes - no matter what space that an item is stored in. Even galleries/libraries/museums that have environmentally controlled storage areas experience some changes. Most materials respond to these changes. They expand and contract. Paper is one of these. Parchment (animal skin turned into a writing substrate) is one of the most stark examples of this - you can literally see is shrivel and shrink in low relative humidity and expand in high relative humidity. Change is inevitable, the thing we try to avoid is any quick and dramatic changes, and to ensure if there is dramatic change it doesn't negatively impact the item.
      Conservation grade storage materials includes stables plastics (polyester, polythethylene, polypropylene), acid free paper and tissue, and acid free boards. We choose what we store things in by a range of factors. One of the downsides of plastic is it doesn't change at all with changes to temperature or relative humidity. It essentially provides no protection from the environment to the item unless it is fully sealed. Even then, it can create a micro-environment that can be bad - for example lots of moisture. It can then trap that moisture causing condensation, and if it is severe enough and for long enough it can turn into mould.
      Conservation grade papers and boards however can absorb some of these environmental changes into their fibres. It can become a 'sacrificial' material that absorbs the moisture and means the item will be better off.
      Non-conservation grade boards might do a similar thing (depending on their coating), but generally the negative impact of having an acidic item with a treasured original item outweighs this. Conservation grade materials is the way to go!
      I hope that answers your question :)

    Hahah, this is so amusing. I am supposed to be writing up my reports and this accidentally showed up so I'm not getting my reports finished. I think we need to get the major studios to hire conservator/consultants for their art theft movies so we can provide "continuity" and reduce the number of really silly things they do, a whole new conservation specialty! My favorite is when the expert art thief cuts the zillion dollar painting out of the frame with a box cutter (and thereby clipping off the tacking edges) and then rolls it up with the paint side in before sticking it into the tube.

    • @TheConservationStarter
      @TheConservationStarter  3 роки тому +3

      I hope the video was worth the delay to your reports!
      The situation with the box cutter is every conservator's nightmare. Conservators can help a lot with the movies around heritage/conservation/theft! I would love to do a job like that.

      Chris? Hi this just a movie, isn’t a documentary. Is a kid’s movie. So expect fun scenes, a lot of adventure, actions, humor right?. If you have kids I’m sure they gonna love this one like my daughter did when this came out 2004?She was 5 , for her was an experience, was a new world and if their parents love history is more enjoyable. After this movie she wanted know many places related to very beginning of the Declaration of Independence, so we went to Philadelphia, Virginia and Washington DC, the museums. This movie shows to you the love and hunger for knowing another cultures. And now many years later my daughter is a nerd, like you?
      She spend the money that she has traveling around the world 🌍 and knowing new places.
      I so proud of her and myself.
      Peace

    To be fair to the "cowboys", maps, keys, and codes are meant to be _used_ not just locked away behind glass. Respect for the creators implies respect for the original purpose of the piece, not necessarily our modern, disconnected purpose. A bit like collectors hoarding toys instead of allowing future generations of children to enjoy them as intended. Sometimes, "it belongs in a museum" needs to be tempered with "Indiana, let it go."

    Not aspiring for the job, but I wonder if aqueous Calcium - or Magnesium Bicarbonate treatment of acidic paper and cardboard is possible in the kitchen! What I have in mind are the following questions: Is the PH one needs achievable with “household chemicals”? Are precision measurements required? (I am thinking about a possible need to match the acidity of a paper precisely to achieve a narrow PH “window”, or is it sufficient to get below PH 8.5, but it doesn't matter as long as it is between 8.4 and 7.9? The purpose behind this question is the use of cardboard and paper in collage and mixed media. I know from my job in a library that aqueous treatment is no longer in use. But these treatments with gases are not available to me. My idea is to treat paper or cardboard before its use so that the dissolving of colours in the aqueous solution wouldn't be an issue, provided the colours I use are not susceptible to change in the PH range between 8.4 to 7.9, that is...;-))) Wish you all the best for 2022!

    • @TheConservationStarter
      @TheConservationStarter  3 роки тому +1

      Hello! Are worried about the materials you are using (acidic paper and cardboard, or paper and cardboard that will deteriorate and become acidic over time) for use in artworks/creating items? If so, my advice is to find and use stable, non-acidic materials that will last (also known as conservation grade materials). There are lots of great suppliers of conservation grade papers and boards.
      Aqueous treatments are still done by professional conservators, but it isn't our go to treatment. It's risky, takes time, needs to be warranted and means you can only treat one item where we are now having a collection wide focus. We make sure we do thorough testing and examination, then discuss with all stakeholders before doing it.
      In terms of doing treatment at home 'in the kitchen' and using household things - I'm sorry but I can't recommend it! If it is your object, of course you can do what you want with it, but I just want you to be aware there are risks to your item and to you.
      When doing aqueous treatments, the pH of solvents we use is definitely a factor but that is not the only property we are looking at. Conservators use very specific and laboratory grade solvents so we know exactly what it is, how it will act and react with the item being treated so we can control it. With household chemicals they would not be laboratory grade and you would have no full picture of the impacts it will have to your item. Also think of the uses of a lot of your household chemicals - most of them are used to do heavy duty cleaning of ceramic, glass, stone or plastic surfaces. They will have a huge impact on fragile, fibrous paper! I hope this information is useful. All the best!
